I find this very strange.

To not meet with him or talk to him until after half way through trade week.

With the reasoning being we wanted to meet face to face (the other reason being to “respectfully wait until his footy had finished is laughable) and then Noble isn’t even present.

So they waited 10 months just for Luff and Finnigan to Zoom?

Has anything liked his happened ever before? Doubt it. It seems to have raised eyebrows, JHF himself made the point “others” (I read that as he too finds it weird) found it strange.

I hope they know what they are doing.
Barely met with phillips and we got him at pick 3.
Wouldn't read much into it.
Club knows what he can do.

Yeah, understand that. But I’d say we spoke to him before mid October.

It’s a different situation anyway.

Maybe north have a brand new revolutionary way of drafting? Have as little contact with the prospective draftees as possible.

Just seems odd to me. And clearly others.

Very late to the party.

I liked his speed and power, his elite 1v1 against men, great mix of inside outside which I think just points to what looks like an elite level work-rate (which is something we haven't necessarily had out of the gate from our top 10 picks). I thought his positioning around the contest was excellent, even if he wasn't always used he clearly knows how to read a stoppage and the body tangle quickly.

It was very hard to identify a weakness, perhaps that he seemed to jump a little early in marking contest.

I liked the trust he has in his skills to make difficult kicks and most of all his confidence and competitiveness to take on every single element of the game - I feel as though that makes him a particularly effective prospect.

Natural CHF that rotates through the midfield that also works hard to defend. That's a pretty special kid.

Not well. Got 2 votes.

Not playing in the WA/SA U18 game this afternoon. Anyone know the reason? NMFC cotton-wooling him?
I thought he was getting some shoulder surgery
Besides, it may just be better for him to get through the end of school year stuff rather than play another game

Great, he can relax for the end of the year and join us after the draft for training

Pretty much.
He has said he is not playing any more games this year.
No risk of injury, Daicos wont play again so he has number 1 wrapped up.
No point playing the rest.

Lol not at all
Embrace the hype bud.
99% of the hype is coming from outside our footy club.
Professional judges are talking him up. Adelaide offered pretty much there whole draft hand for 2 years for him.
This isn't a case of us overrating our player.

The hype is definitely over the top
He’s the best talent but the gap between him and Callaghan is not that big imo

How many times have you watched Callaghan out of curiosity TZ?

Not to post shame, I just admittedly have hardly seen Callaghan, so my perspective on he is largely based on what I’ve read.

No one that I can recall that has watched them both play, doesn’t have JHF clearly in front, so I’m curious as to why you say the gap is close.

Dude - if we had spoken to a few other draftees then yes it would be strange - as in we were looking elsewhere.

However as our process is primarily analytical/statistically driven then it may be that they wanted to gather all that quant type information first and then following that analysis move onto the 'softer'/emotional' side like interviews, referee checks.

During the end of our year and the SANFL finals a few weeks later all the evidence was clearly pointing to JHF as the preference and given we knew we had pick 1 the interviews now take place.

An unusual approach - I suspect it isn't the norm - but Luff has said he places more weight on stats - not how players 'speak' - so us not speaking to JHF early is likely just an outworking of that approach.

If we haven’t spoken to any draftees all year, then sure. Very strange way of doing things but in Luff we trust I suppose.

If we have zoomed other players then it’s questionable imo.

Lol I want Horne you nuff. You still rocking a gws flag as well btw

just saying Callaghan is not far off him as many are saying
I dont disagree that hype is over the top, but thats for any young number 1 pick.

I think I said it before, but the club needs to drill into these high picks that they will be relatively SHIT when they enter a team, and the work rate to be the best is so incredibly high. I think BigFooty fans in particular need to remind themselves of that!

Next year is going to be so ****ing exciting. I'm tempted to put money on us as a darky to make the finals - I don't think that's my bias either, we will be in the mix I think.

Its not a bad bet really. I think well be 10-12 myself.

Was watching an interview with Jason from 1 year ago.

Interesting that he only started hitting the gym once a week for an hour, and hasn't had a specific diet.

While he might look ready to go, there is a LONG way for him to improve upon his body by the sounds of it. Very positive in a way I think - cant wait for him to be in the club as his job.

Still plenty of Time for us to trade away pick 1
