Re: Pick 25 wasted

I'm happy enough + I trust Bucks/Hine.

Would have been nice to get an earlier pick back than 67 though. (49?)

Re: Pick 25 wasted

Leon got suspended, he can't play Round 1.

ohhhhh....... Sorry Dave!!! I thought you meant a kid who hadn't played in 2 years could replace an AA.... My bad :thumbsu::)

Re: Pick 25 wasted

Wasted?

1. Macintosh is not up for trade as per Scott's confirmation again today.
2. Clark, Tippett etc are either staying or going to Perth,QLD respectively.
3. Clarke, Elliot and Witts (pick 67) for pick 25...um...yes I'll have one of those.

Re: Pick 25 wasted

This trade won't be good or bad until we can judge it in a couple of years+.

Personally I'm fairly happy with it.

As for the McIntosh call, I doubt Goldsack + pick 25 would have gotten the trade done, and if it had it would have caused huge salary cap issues. Plus currently we keep Goldsack who I think will be a good player with a full preseason under his belt. That trade would have been much worse IMO.

Re: Pick 25 wasted

What Rohan said.

Plus, we can pick up Witts with our last pick in the draft, whatever that is, there's no need to trade for a pick with which to do that.

Re: Pick 25 wasted

Clarke is a go-er and we lacked heart in our half forward/small forward line at the business end this year, put him in there to show them how it is done. Don't forget THAT Geelong game!

True, but while we won't use the pick on Witts, it now allows us to use the GWS pick in the 4th round, where as before hand Witts was probably going to be taken in that round with our last pick.

Now we have a 2nd, 3rd and two 4th rounds picks, giving us a much earlier 4th round option, which might come in handy if Hine has someone in particular in mind for that stage of the draft.

We won't know how effective this trade has been for a number of years yet, as we will have to see;

1. How Clarke returns, and how long he stays for.
2. If Elliot makes it, and how many games/goals he gets.
3. If the player taken with pick 67 turns into a good player or not.
4. If the player taken with pick 25 turns into a good player or not.

While at the moment in someone's opinion they may say this has been a waste, we won't know for at least 3-4 years IMO.

Re: Pick 25 wasted

Who would you most want in the side? S.Buckley or Marty Clarke?

It could get pretty hard for Bucks to break into the side with so many players capable of playing his position.

DING! DING ! DING! We have a winner!

Sorry Taz had to use ur gif, it seemed appropriate :p

So essentially we have gotten 3 players for 1 pick. 1 player (Clarke) can make an immediate impact during our premiership window, 1 player (Elliot) seems talented and could break into the side over the next few years. 1 kid (Witts) looks a very promising young ruckman. I'm happy with the trade.

Re: Pick 25 wasted

How many posters in this thread can say with 100% confidence that we would not have just drafted Elliot with pick 25 (had he been available)? I'm inclined to think that we were going to use our second pick on him, but that's not to say we didn't rate him around the top 30-35 just like Fasolo last year. Doing this deal has just guaranteed that he made his way to us!

As it is we're far better off sitting back encouraging both Elliot and Clarke and trusting Hine's judgement (because he's never given us a reason to doubt him). Rather than jumping on our high horses and being critical of the move.

Re: Pick 25 wasted

That relies on a few things
1) McIntosh wants to be traded
2) Kangas are prepared to trade him
3) Kangas think 25+a player is adequate compensation
4) Kangas are remotely interested in Goldsac
5) 25+Goldsac is the best offer available for HMAC

Doubt it. Would need to be a top 10 pick minimum for Scott to even entertain trading him.

Re: Pick 25 wasted

Well I reported his post, so hopefully he'll get his IP banned.

Why spoil the party. Give me some popcorn. I am enjoying this :D

Re: Pick 25 wasted

Mcintosh looks cooked. Big guys with foot and/or achilles problems are very risky + he'd come with a big salary.

No thanks. He's just not that good anyway.

As many have said, perhaps we rated Elliott as a 30s' pick.

Elliott was pre listed by GWS, every poster in this thread should be 100% sure that we would not have picked him up, as he isn't available for drafting.

This kid does seem to have a lot of talent, a very good attitude and a great club backing him all the way. 200+ game superstar in the making if he keeps traveling the way he is now. Can't wait for him to run out on the MCG in the black and white stripes.

Re: pick 25 wasted

Originally, Hine found him.

Secondly, there's no doubt Hine played a part in bringing him back, has a very good relationship with Marty.

Thirdly, Hine would have thought that the value we would be getting from Clarke as well as a youngster in Elliot (who he must rate to want) as well as obtaining a late pick which effectively is a "live" draft pick for us far outweighed any benefit we would have received from keeping the pick and picking up one player from the draft.
only reason he is back is because of bucks. Malthouse didnt want him. said that he didnt have an opposite side and was becoming selfish when playing last. particular in one game against swans. bucks looking for depth and to put pressure on the 22 playing each week. i am not convinced but trust the recruiters....lets hope he has improved and game hasnt gone past him

Re: Pick 25 wasted

Do we really want to question a guy that found Beams at 30 and Fasolo in the mid 40's

You would be lucky if anyone on this whole board could be 100% sure of anything club related they post. Personal opinions hardly come from within club hierarchy. Leave it to the professionals to do their job.
