Not from what I’ve seen from him at all.Defensive efforts are lacking apparently.

True - but can't be on a wing at AFL level with suspect defensive effort. Good teams will make you pay. This is such a cop out, efforts are higher than some in the afl side
Mead's so-called defensive efforts are overrated and amount to precious little. He is one of the least reliable tacklers in our team - he too often fails to pin the arms, and often gets brushed aside. He is a serial coraller who doesn't close in on opponents tightly enough to prevent them from disposing cleanly of the ball. He doesn't have the pace to chase or hunt down opponents.True - but can't be on a wing at AFL level with suspect defensive effort. Good teams will make you pay.
(Having said that, Mead plays on a wing, and whilst he puts in a tonne of defensive effort, the output is not really there)
I suspect it's more a setting standards from an effort perspective rather than an actual output perspective. It's around getting more out of Lorenz, rather than rewarding him now. Let's not forget, he has played a few games - so it's not as if Ken has written him off completely.
He's played 1 game and 2 quarters. In the one full game he played I thought he was a bit of a shining light in a woeful team effort. He certainly looked to me like he deserved to hold his spot ahead of the serial under performers who don't appear to be held to the same high standards. The evidence suggests that Ken probably has written him off completely.Let's not forget, he has played a few games - so it's not as if Ken has written him off completely.

What Mead needs PJ Power is to sit in front of hours of video of Kym Kinnear to see how a seemingly undersized wingman can dominate an opponent.
Of course Ken would have no idea who Kym Kinnear is and Mead wouldn't have his intensity and barely restrained anger.
Telling that Mead isn't actually undersized, but does play like it - any tackling that actually lands just tends to be not very impactful. Peter Burgoyne/Robbie Gray height & weight for goodness sake. Kym Kinnear was undersized for his day and didn't have to be a bloody physics professor to know what centre of gravity was.

Agreed re Mead Ford he doesn't look to be 184 cm, but by comparison the Mango Mussolini in the (now not so) good old US of A doesn't appear to be anywhere near his claimed height of 6' 3'' (192 cm), and he gives me the impression he could struggle to crack 5' 11'' standing on a copy of the yellow pages! It's weird isn't it? I see he is listed at 184cm, I would have said he was 178cm.

Looks a class above this levelGood again today, just classy user of the ball.

Why he isn’t getting games I’ll never know. How is keeping Boak or mead in, in any way a good thing?
Phasing out wines is an unreal thing to say hes still playing very good footy at the top level.I want to see him play a few full games in the guts at AFL level. Has the class and poise.
We should be gradually phasing out Wines and definitely move Boak on at season’s end.
Of course he is. But you have to start preparing for the next generation now. It is what the best teams do. Ollie's challenge is that we cant really move him into too many other positions. He is primarily an inside-mid. His drop-off might be very sudden! We need to have some options ready to go.Phasing out wines is an unreal thing to say hes still playing very good footy at the top level.
That's fine if you want to blood kids for the future but there's plenty of other players that aren't performing that should make way first.Of course he is. Are they playing inside mid too? Only one I can think of that some close to playing a role that Wines plays is Meade. That's fine if you want to blood kids for the future but there's plenty of other players that aren't performing that should make way first.
