I am without hope.

I just can't see us turning this shit around anytime soon. We talk about mentally weak players but I think our game plan, structures and coaches are also mentally weak and that is whole lot of shit to change.

But that's ok because we can all keep feeling warm and fuzzy about the Dogs' win today .. oh that's right they are not Port I don't give a flying f*ck.

Yes i am still salty.

Premiership coaches seasons to win a Flag after Brisbane;s triple and an experienced Matthews did the treble. Beveridge has done something pretty special. To think Beveridge was all set leave the hawks to be Alan Richardson's director of coaching at the Saints for 2015 and then Griffen walks out and the doggies sack McCartney.

Chris Scott.... 1st took over a top 4 team who had played in 3 grand finals then a PF the 4 years before
John Longmire 2nd took over 5th team13 wins but 2005 flag and 06 GF and finals 7 of previous 8 seasons
Luke Beveridge 2nd took over 14th team with 7 wins
Paul Roos...... 3rd full after taking over mid 2002 when Eade sacked
Alistar Clarkson 4th took over 15th placed team with 5 wins
John Worsfold 5th took over 14th placed team 5 wins
Mark Williams 6th took over 10th placed team with 9.5 wins
Mark Thompson 8th took over 11th placed team with 10 wins
Malthouse at Collingwood 11th But 3rd at WCE after 6 at WB

Of he coaching greats ie multiple flags who coached in the national comp
Sheedy 4th took over 7th side 10 wins
Parkin 2nd at Hawks but took over in 1977 after 1976 flag and 1st year at Carlton in 1981 and won in 82
Jeans 6th
Hafey 2nd took over 11th side
Matthews 4th at Collingwood after taking over mid 1986. Won 3rd year at Brisbane 2001 after 1998 16th
Pagan 4th at North
Blight 1st at Adelaide who missed finals for 2 years but in 5 years at Geelong he had made 3 GFs.

The next 5 years could be a battle for GF's between Bulldogs vs the Giants vs the Suns if the Suns get their shit together and aren't crueled by 20 players on the injury list like this season. They have plenty of future Rd1 and Rd2 picks and top picks to come with trades for players like O'Meara, Prestia Matera etc who want to leave.

The Bulldogs - 17 of their 22 players today were aged 25 or less and of that 17, only Dahlhaus has cracked 100 games. 6 have between 50 and 99 and 10 had played less than 50.

Of their 5 players over 25 Dickson has only played 78 and he's 28, the 3 x 30 year old veterans, Boyd and Morris have over 200 and Picken has 175 and Easton Wood at 27 has only racked up 107.

They are a lot like the age and experience profile of the Hawks 2008 but are even younger and less experienced. The Hawks had 2 x 200 gamers Crawford 300+ and Croad and 8 others who played 100+ the Bulldogs had only 2+3, the 50-99 range was 9 hawks v 7 doggies and 1 to 49 range was 3 hawks and 9 doggies and like the hawks of 2008 probably 2 or 3 years ahead of schedule. Injuries did effect their age and experience profile with Murphy, Redpath, Wallis, Jong and Crameri - CAS suspension probably would have all played if available and made the doggies age and game profile increase.

The hawks had a lot of top 10 and top 20 picks in 2008. In 2008 a 23-1 Geelong choked more than the Hawks pinched the flag. I don't think you can say Sydney choked but a battered Bulldogs did get an advantage from the new finals bye. They were pretty banged up at the end of Rd 23.

They don't have us much top end talent as the GWS and even GC but they have enough.
Bontempelli pick 4, Stringer pick 5, Macrae pick 6, Tom Boyd pick 1 - he has come of age these finals and that investment in him is looking alright now compared to 6 weeks ago, Johannisen, and the 3 father sons Hunter, Libba and Mitch Wallis, ( who has been out for a few weeks now) and they didn't have to pay full tote odds for them. There are a lot of 15-30 picks in the Bulldogs squad.

And they have 4 All Oz defenders in the squad with Matthew Boyd, Dale Morris, Easton Wood and Bob Murphy, so they know how to defend. They have to offer Boyd and Morris a new contract for 2017 seeing they gave Murphy one.

Speaking of early days are you counting Challenge finals as well as "grand" finals?

The grand final is the final game of the year, so if there was a challenge then that challenge game is deemed to be the GF when you look at VFL, SANFL and WAFL history.

Do any players really 'belt' the national anthem out in AFL? Does anyone apart from the singer even 'belt' it out?

Didn't think so.
Tredders and Choco used to. Tredders started belting it out after he played in Ireland in the IRS game in Oct 2002 and the Bali bombing happened a few hours before the game and the Aussie side sang the national anthem after the win.

That's international sports.

Didnt you read what I wrote. I said Tredders started belting it out after that event - ergo when he got home he belted it out at finals.

The reason a team like the Bulldogs can win a flag is the fact that they have the ability to win finals when they are the underdogs. We have proven that we can do this in the past (vs collingwood + almost geelong 2013, Freo + almost hawthorn 2014. This gives me the confidence that if we do get it right and put ourselves in a comfortable position in the finals in the next few years, we could have a chance at snatching a flag similar to the Bulldogs . Look at other teams like Adelaide, West Coast, Freo who seem to always beat the easier finalists and then fail and break down against the harder teams. When we play finals and get on the big stage, we genuinely have a crack. Starting from next year it is time for us to pull our finger out

Dogs get the likes of Griffen (who they turned into Boyd with pick 6), Bontempelli, Stringer, Macrae (who they got as compensation for losing Ward) when they bottom out. All of which assisted in winning them the premiership.

We get the likes of Butcher, Moore, Hartlett and Lobbe. 2 absolute spuds, a soft as butter "hard" man and a ruck who can't take a contested mark.

That's the difference for mine.

What the **** is wrong with our recruiting department?

**** Cripps and Parker off, FFS. Great at finding flankers...****ing shit at finding anyone else.

Still struggling to muster a lick of goodwill for the Dogs' premiership. **** them for how much they've exposed our failings
I actually don't mind having our failings exposed - hopefully those in the know at Alberton know exactly what our glaring needs are and recruit accordingly in the off season.

The Dogs made the tough calls on blokes like Cooney and Griffen, and have won the ultimate prize - it's time for us to stop being loyal to people who aren't performing, and make similar tough calls.

That's the problem though - our comparative picks were Hartlett, Butcher and Moore.

I'll keep saying it - until we get rid of Parker and Cripps, and get a proper recruitment team, you can keep cycling through players and coaches and it won't make a difference.

You just can't see players like Neade winning a gf can you, that was a hard hard game. Players like Impey yes, Neade know, along with quite a few other players at Port. We need to start not playing those players in the minor round as of now... Yes you Lobbe for one.....

Agreed

Fair call.

I'm all for having a crack at our recruiters but none of those players you mentioned were drafted by Parker or Cripps.

Our first rounders in recent drafts are essentially Wingard, Wines, Ryder, and Dixon.

Butcher, Moore et. al. were some time ago.

Edit: forgot Polec.

While Hartley was in charge, Parker was assistant recruiting manager in 2009 so he was definitely involved.

Which brings us to an issue that has bugged me for awhile. Why is it that every single employee that moves on always takes the opportunity to **** us over in their last year? Hartley could have recruited Talia and Carlisle with 8 and 9 and we would have been set for key position defenders for 10 years, but he recruited two spuds instead. Alan Stewart's "parting gift" from his last year at the club was so absolutely shit that I've forgotten what players we drafted. And Rhode was the one who oversaw the negotiations for Lobbe (if you think Davies did it in the couple of weeks he was in the job, that's pretty funny).

It's like they want to protect their reputation by ensuring that the next guy starts off in the shithouse.

That's why I'm all for guys like Lade and Tredrea getting involved with the club. At least you know they'll have our best interests, rather than their interests, at heart.

I agree. In principle, every department has to come under scrutiny, but we haven't done much wrong the last few years IMO. Some of out later picks the last two years look like they will end up being steals! And they were hamstrung somewhat with the earlier picks after we used them to trade for Polec, Ryder, and Dixon, which at this stage still look like the right moves.
2012
Angus Monfries
Jack Hombsch
Campbell Heath
Ollie wines
Tom Curey
Mason Shaw - servicable, but delist
Sam Calqhoun - servicable, but delist
Kane Mitchell - servicable, but delist

2013
Jared Polec
Matt White
Jarmen Impey
Darcy Byrne-Jones
Karl Amon
Mitch Harvey - Dud!

2014
Paddy Ryder
Dougal Howard
Logan Austin
Jesse Palmer
Billy Frampton
Nathan Krakouer

2015
Charlie Dixon
Jimmy Toumpas
Riley Bonner
Aidyn Johnson
Will Snelling
Cam Hewitt

What is also in the recruiting departments favor is the amount of dross (sorry, sounds harsh) they had to delist in this time!!!! I was shocked to see the endless lists of vanilla we had accumulated before this date! IMO they have a pass mark in recent years, and have done the best they could with the hand dealt.

The Dogs with Murphy and Cloke next year will take some beating.

Their 1st round picks have been amazing especially compared to the vanilla duds we have taken.

Are you suggesting we shouldnt have drafted Butcher?

The shitstorm that would have happened had we overlooked him with paper thin KPF stocks would have been something to see.

The Butcher pick was the right pick even if he failed.

Moore over Talia was shitful though
