If we want an end of season (or mid) "All Star Game" as origin is out of the question, a countrywide City v Country Origin match would work.
Enjoying the league one.

The last one - it's going the same way as our state of origin went, killed off by clubs not wanting their players to risk injury.

If Freo hang on every game has been won by the side lower on the ladder.
wonder if that has happened before.

port will finish the round with the worst goalkicking this week, west coast will finish the round with the best.

I know, but the point is it could work as footy "origin". Not going to happen of course.

No.

The amount of upset wins created history for the competition, becoming the first round to have all nine teams who were placed lower on the ladder than their opponent come away with wins.
Sports statistician “Swamp” announced the historical moment on Twitter as Fremantle pulled through with a victory over Essendon, unofficially dubbing round seven of 2017 “the round of the underdogs”.

Doesn't make my 4 look as bad as I first thought. Could even have been 5 if I hadn't changed GCS to Geelong at the last minute.

First time since an 18 team comp but according to ABC radio this morning the last time all of the matches in a round of VFL/AFL were won by the lower ranked team was back in the 1970's.

Woosha makes the case for ending the Collingwood-Essendon ANZAC Day monopoly:

Schedule takes toll on 'physically stressed' Dons

ESSENDON felt the effects of a heavy workload during Sunday’s 37-point loss to Fremantle – its third fixture in 13 days – according to John Worsfold.

The Bombers were fast out of the blocks against the Dockers with sustained midfield pressure, clean foot skills and a high work-rate crucial in gaining a 13-point quarter-time lead.

And while Fremantle regathered itself in an even second term, Worsfold’s men threatened to break the game open with free-flowing play through the corridor.

But Essendon’s running-intensive game style executed in 30-degree heat took toll in the second half as the fresher Dockers – coming off an eight-day break after three weeks in Perth – piled on 12 goals to four in a 50-point turnaround.

Speaking after the match, Worsfold acknowledged his team was outrun after half-time and felt the effects of difficult conditions.

"Both teams were running around (in the heat) so it’s not as big a factor as it may be but that on top of our schedule and it was tough – the players looked pretty physically stressed, in that last quarter especially," Worsfold said.

"It is a fact that it’s been a pretty tough three games.

"Fremantle were definitely running stronger than us in the second half.

"I thought the boys hung in there really strongly in the third quarter but could not match them in the last quarter."

Essendon made six changes to its round six team following five the week prior, in part to combat its demanding roster.

How can a team who insists on playing the ANZAC Day game be so dumb as to make this complaint?

Kevin Sheedy, the inventor of ANZAC Day, would be turning in his grave.

Essendon's next match is another of Sheeds's brainchildren - their 'Bush Week' match against Geelong, where they remember all their cun...er pay tribute to their country members. I hope whichever country venue it's being played at doesn't get hit by a sandstorm! What's that - it's at the MCG? Oh well, should be safe enough there.
