WESTERN SANFL clubs have posted a combined loss of more than $600,000 last year despite squaring off in the grand final.

Woodville-West Torrens released its 2015 annual report last month, showing a consolidated loss of $332,000, while West Adelaide recorded a $283,000 loss.

Had a good view of that from level 3 Riverbank, a bit to the west of the goals. Clearly could see the line and he was over. IMO teams should be able to ask for 1 goal review a match themselves.

Yeah, probably.

Until said "timeout" gets used creatively in the dying 30 seconds of a game by an attacking side who is just a few points down and wants to take away the normal opportunity for the defending side to bring the ball back into play quickly.

I don't know where in my post you think I indicated that the umpire's vision was obstructed.

I indicated that the goal umpires head was behind the post, that is, between the goal post and the fence. His head is hidden by the goal post in that camera angle. In the image his left leg and left arm are visible, his left foot being on the goal line, but the left side of his body is not visible as it would be if he was centred on the goal line. His yellow shirt is actually visible to the right of the post.

The line from his head to the middle of the point post is therefore at an angle to the goal line. AS he is so close to Jenkins and is looking to see at what point he marks the ball he can not see the goal line so is relying on the mistaken belief that he is looking along the goal line.

I still believe he should have called for a review as was done in similar circumstances at AO only the next week or so.

As I am led to believe, the umpire is in the right spot to adjudicate that decision, in this instance, as the back of the padding is considered to be the point where the ball has to be completely behind.

I have a mate whose son is an AFL goal umpire and, as the ball hadn't passed beyond the back of the padding, it is considered a goal.

If the ball had been above the padding then it would have been a point.

Weird isn't it.

So why aren't the goal lines marked the width of the padding and why when the do a video review of a ball touched on the line at ground level do they use the white line as the delimiter?

I still think they are making a huge mistake with doing away with boundary throw ins. They're going to piss of the purist and I would have thought that's all they've got left propping them up.

It's a major rule change that changes the way the game is played. I'm pissed our junior rucks have to play under those rules. It's not good for their development.

Is that just for the NAB games and trialing it or did they change it for the normal footy season?
