New details are coming out about Portal 2. Seems like it will be on the right path.

Doug Lombardi the Vice President of Marketing at Valve says of the first game: "Portal was so short because it was a trial…" Now they are working on the sequel which is reported to be a full length, full price release that will be available this fall.

According to Game Informer, physics will play heavily into the new puzzles. There are Vital Apparatus Vents that create whirlwinds that can suck up objects and there are tractor beams that can transport objects through the air. Other new elements include lasers, catapults, and pneumatic tubes. There is also a way for players to coat surfaces with colors that imbue a surface with special properties. For example, if players cover a surface in orange paint it will give anyone who walks over it a speed boost. A blue coating causes normal surfaces to become bouncy. Other colors and effects are likely.

The sequel will also feature a full-length co-op campaign. It is part of the main game's narrative but don't expect to see another human join Chell. There are two new bots featured in Portal 2 that a second player can choose from as they join the game using either a split-screen display or an online match. The co-op is made to be more challenging and both players will have to work together to solve the puzzles. Valve, is reported to be working on a way for players to tag their environment with visual cues so that they can help guide their co-op partners actions with something more than their voice.

Half Life 3? I haven't heard of that, sure you're not getting it confused with Half Life 2: Episode 3?

Either way, if they do release HL3, it would absolutely need a new (or upgraded) engine.

I'm pretty sure they said the episodic releases turned out to be one big fail as they were taking as long (if not longer) to make than the actual normal versions (Half Life 1, 2, 3 etc).

The next instalment in the Half Life series is episode 3.

I think I remember reading somewhere, that Valve wants the 3 episodes to be regarded as Half Life 3.

As far as I know, they are to release Ep 3 to conclude the story arc and then release Half Life 3 with a new story arc

I must be the onlt person in the world who is not a fan of portal

Couldn't get into it

Half Life 2 on the other hand, hands down best ever FPS for me

Not even close but I think we've had that conversation before.

Replayed Portal the other day just to get the new 3 seconds added to the end.

Dunno what the new radio transmissions achievement is all about though. Might have to work it out so i can go back to having all the achievements done again >_>

The whole point of the radios was to build up to the announcement of Portal 2 anyway.

Hence why I said "....for me" ;)

Probably should've seen this coming since they end up delaying everything anyway haha :).

Well the press conference next week is still Portal 2 themed, so it's anyone's guess I suppose.

Portal 2 will be on the PS3!:D:D:D SO EPIC! SO INCREDIBLY HAPPY!:thumbsu::D:thumbsu:

Also will have steam support, through Steam Cloud.

Here's the announcement and trailer from the malnourished man himself Gabe Newell.

The steam connection sound interesting.
I Wonder what it will contain?

It will likely mean that patches can be delivered directly instead of going through Sony so they should come out quicker than on 360, as well as free updates instead of being made to pay (as MS wouldn't let Valve give away DLC for free on the 360). I would imagine that it also means that your save games will save online so you can play on any ps3 without carrying around your savegame files on a usb drive.

There is some AMAZING stuff in there. The puzzles look insane too, with all these new gameplay elements it will make different puzzles even harder to get through.
There was definitely a warm smattering of applause there.

The announcement of a multiplatform game. Huge.
It is actually when the man who runs the company says the PS3 is a horrible console to code for and will never develop for it...EVER. Then not only does he say the game is coming to the PS3, but it will be getting more features than the 360 and on top of that it's the sequel to one of the best games of all time. Yep it is actually huge.:thumbsu:

Must've been a pretty shitty E3 then.

well tbh i only watched the microsoft conference on fox8 and that portal 2 announcement from the presentation that hbk posted.....so from everything that i saw combined i guess you could say it was.

the people who stayed up to watch nintendo, sonys, ubisofts, EA's etc would probably disagree though. :)
