You're a North Melbourne supporter and yet you believe that being small means you can't have an impact in the midfield?

Did you happen to miss 432 games in the last couple of decades?

haha...true.

In the AFL today, most of the midfielders are huge. They are contested beasts which Boomer was not. It doesn't mean you can't have an impact by being small but it certainly helps to play a variety of positions, if you are the Bont size.

Those two + Margaret River are traditionally thought of as the best Cab Sav regions in Aus, with Coonawarra clearly top. I've never thought of them as being as diverse as say, Barossa vs Grampians vs Heathcote vs Rutherglen vs Yarra Valley vs Hunter Valley are for Shiraz though.
With you on that Rob, save for the "clearly top" bit. Forgive my Sandgroper's bias creeping in there.

Do you enjoy a good white too?

(Bear with us briefly if you can, mods, while we stay off topic ...)

But don't forget that a key part of that Bulldogs team is Caleb Daniel. He has a significant impact on games. Tall, powerful midfielders are weapons but so a small, speedy, skilful players.

Yeah, I'd take the Bont over Daniel any day. Oh and Daniel was dropped last week. Anyhoo...

Yeah, I meant top by general reputation rather than quality, though the best of the best are probably S.A (Bin 707 and 407 are multi-regional though).

Whites I do like, but tend to stick to the usual suspects: Hunter Semillon (glorious and uniquely Aussie at their best), Clare & Eden riesling, Yarra Valley chardonnay. Chablis if I feel like splurging, and there's some wineries doing good stuff with Italian varieties in the King Valley - Fiano, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Arneis. Tahbilk Marsanne is a classic - usually have a couple of bottles lying around. And because Mrs Z likes it we tend to get through a bit of cheap Italian pinot grigio.

Couldn't pay me to drink sauv blanc though.

Don't ignore Clare Valley Cab Savs. Jim Barrys is a good starting point, Grosset's Gaia is a Cab Sav/Franc that is fantastic and Taylors St Andrews is a cracker. Plenty of others up there doing great Cabs Sav.

Who makes Chablis these days? Haven't seen it since the '80s.

Gimme some of that Goon bag anyday
Had plenty of rum & cokes back in my younger days.

And cointreau. Especially with my wife (then my girlfriend), for some reason.

This has the makings of a separate thread, maybe. Something like: "What's Your Preferred Poison (to numb the pain of a North loss)?"

Yeah Kimbo my sense is that "Chablis" is a bit of a generic term used a lot more often on the Eastern seaboard rather than over our way. Although Rob may well have in mind some particular types of wine.

Did your wife leave much Cointreau for your girlfriend or do you buy separate bottles?

Touche, mate.

(Just to continue with the Fwench theme for a bit longer.)

Chablis is made with the Chardonnay grape but not done in oak. Its a cool climate wine. I do recall reading that the French were trying to protect the name, much in the same way as Champagne so it could well be made in Aust under a different name. Personally when it comes to white I dont venture to far from Chardy, Riesling, Semillon and the odd Fiano.

There is certainly some truth in that. The top 5 possession winners so far this year are 182cm, 180, 184, 183 and 182. Dec comes in at 181cm. However all bar two of the top 10 for constested ball are 185+. Just means that li' Deco will need to get on his bike when he gets into the seniors.

Bugger, there goes our elite kicking efficiency.

Are we sure this is actually Arjen and not a defective clone of some kind?

My weed candy arrived in the mail that day and must have overdid it, a touch.

Why all the love for Mountford? I haven't seen his games, but it looked too small at AFL level to do any damage in the midfield. He only got 20 touches didn't he in the VFL? He's not exactly smashing the door down with 30+ touches.

He didn't really deserve to be dropped in the first place, he was nowhere near our worst in Round 1. Has serious pace, a defensive side and is a decent enough kick to be in calculations.

Leeuwin Estate?

Especially when work is picking up the tab.

French chateaux in the Chablis region, duh.
Another 'victim' of the French IP ruling?

I dunno, that's why I asked. Yes, not something we see over our way.

Back in the day, when I was young and just getting into wine, Queen Adelaide made it.

What he said. Cool climate chardonnay from the Chablis sub-region of Burgundy, usually unoaked. BTW, whatever old school Aussie winemakers meant when they used to say "white burgundy" is a complete mystery. Rarely had any resemblance to anything made in Burgundy.

Hard to go wrong with Leeuwin Estate. Over this side, Oak Ridge make a cracking Cab Sav too.

Yeah all the regional names got locked up, not just in France. Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, Chianti, Rioja, Port and plenty others. Cheese and smallgoods people got in on the act too.

You're not wrong. Hence the weasel words "traditionally thought of"

Because he's our best forward, Brown would be towelled up by Talia & co as #1, McKay isn't ready, Maj isn't fit, ...
I'm fine with him playing as long as he's fit and in form to provide structure and support.

I still reckon we can go in with Brown + Waite + Maj + Wood if we want to.

Yeah I do realise all that and I love Waite for the six weeks he's fit. This isn't about Majak who needs a rocket or our Sports Science department need to toughen up. The how you feeling and please fill in the form from one through ten is a ****en joke!

Anywho i am worried we'll beat up on shit sides and finish 9th playing someone who won't be at our club moving forward. I just don't see the sense is all.

Go with Preuss- more games he gets the better he'll be in 2018. Hansen forward with Brown and a resting Preuss. Just my opinion is all.

I just drink water.

I was told from a young age that you don't need alcohol to have fun. Also, polyphenol's in red wine inhibit my absorption of iron. Also, by saving kilojoules on alcohol i am free to use them on things like bread, potatoes, or brown rice.

Food for thought.

Borg's ratings off perceived exertion scale is based on a lot of research. It's no longer 1-10, it's actually 6-20 as a rough guide of your heart rate. The sports science department is actually really good. Especially kangatech.

Nope the one through ten is about how you feel, your heart rate isn't considered if you're having a tuna boy moment.....

Not a crack at Majak- just the whole bullshit system- man the **** up!
