Plenty of talk about Parkdale's woes and Haileybury's recruiting spree on another thread so perhaps time to start a Premier B thread. Any news from other clubs? Will post what I know (and admittedly it's not all that much atm) about my club soon enough.

VAFA concerned about the precedent so it is no certainty to happen but If Parkdale go to C who should come up? Ormond would have made a good fist of it but not keen. OGs probably best placed but also said to be not all that keen either. Will Monash have a crack?

Is the great Mark Seccull going around again this year? He will be 53 and in his prime, what a legend of the VAFA. Haileybury, like Caulfield, could be a giant of the VAFA based on their school programmes, will be interesting to watch them this year.

In response to blueblood005 Q about De La - Sorry I can't provide much as I am very much a seasonal football follower with cricket involvement taking over in summer. Have heard 3rd or 4th hand that some of the momentum the club had going into 2020 has abated somewhat. A few handy types retuning for one last crack have pulled the pin and others perhaps finding that tradie rates for Saturday beats playing for nothing. However from all accounts De La will have a much better list in B grade in 2021 than we had in A grade in 2019, injuries and availability pending of course. All the guns have remained – Humphrey, Nicholson, Forato, Williams J & Williams S who for a many years were among the best players in Premier. Some good in pre 2020 and some very good young talent but could use a few elite types. Sadly we are no match for the Uni and APS networks. Playing Uni Blues and Scotch in praccy matches so that should give an indication of where we are at.

Without knowing much about the other B grade 7 clubs, based on transfers Blacks and Old Haileybury look the teams to beat.

According to Sunday Herald Sun as of Friday, Parkdale will stay in Premier B.
Not sure if that is VAFA or Parkdale decision.

My mail is that a final decision has not been made but the VAFA was/is very concerned about the precedent this might set and were never that keen on the idea.

Based on what I was told they would only entertain it if certain clubs who they believe would be competitive in B grade volunteered to go up. I’m not sure how many clubs were asked in the end but understand that Ormond, OGs and Monash all knocked it back. VAFA will not force any one up against their will so it looks like Parkdale staying in B grade. Personally don’t have strong view either way. Hate seeing uncompetitive teams but don’t like the idea of clubs the deciding where they play, as has occurred in other comps in recent years.

Any new out of Carey Carlton2011?

" don’t like the idea of clubs the deciding where they play, as has occurred in other comps in recent years. "

f*n parkside wrfl div 2 premiers going down to div 3 instead of up to div 1 bloody (*#&@$*^ grumble

Still rankles.
Routinely happens in Bedford's favourite league as well. Doveton Eagles won flag in Div. 2 in 2019. Instead of playing Div. 1 they ended up in Div 3. I can maybe cop a team with legitimate and demonstrated player and talent shortages going back one grade but two divisions below where they should be playing is taking the p155.

" legitimate and demonstrated player and talent shortages "

Parkside were all "its too big a step to div 1, all of our seniors are leaving and we'll have trouble fielding a team, we need to go down to div 3 to rebuild"
WRFL caved in
All these seniors magically reappeared on the books a few days after the announcement

I don't think there will be any Grade movement, setting precedents can be dangerous.

Panthers have very good numbers consistently on the track. Will be a very young team.

Darren Minchington to keep defenders busy down at the Dairy Bell in 2021 it seems.
That’s if he can get on the park.

The VAFA should be playing a VFL rep side this year, they’d probably win. Anyone care to put a possible side of all of the big name players together?

Given the COVID extension i reckon VAFA could have made an exception without having risked setting a dangerous precedent, but if no one wanted to come up its hard to force the move.

Been plenty of clubs staring down the barrel of a long year before and they have stood and copped it. No need to raise the white flag before the season starts.

FWIW , Mitch Hibberd at Carey. Imagine wont play much but will take the piss when he does. A good get.
A good get indeed. Absolute beast and stiff to get delisted. Only a 16 round VFL season so we might see a bit of these blokes. Hope he doesn't line up against us!

Hi B Boys..
I’m tipping De La to go 18-0 with a % of over 200.
Zero chance of that happening. Have you see who Old Haileybury have picked up? Loaded with top end talent. Blacks also strong and will also be very hard to beat this year.

Yes..They will both play finals. But DLS will be in a class of their own.
I’m predicting the gap will be monstrous between top and bottom end. Some 150 point smashings coming B grades way.

Have to agree with this, caught Blues and De La and they were very impressive against a strong Blues outfit.

I had a look at Willy v StBMT on the weekend. Both teams looked average, I was talking with a Willy bloke who said they’ve lost a heap of players from their 2019 team and he thinks they will battle to stay up.

Based on what I saw on the weekend, B would have to very average for Willy to make a run at finals, but of course it was only a practice match. Willy took the points by a goal and a bit and celebrated like they’d won the flag.

St Bede’s looked very young, with only a handful of players I recognised, they may be battling to stay up.

Couldn’t disagree with you more Glorious One. Everyone entitled to their opinion but based off your post you are clearly coming from an area of no background whatsoever.

Being first year in Prem B it is unknown what other teams will be like, however knowing Williamstown’s list I have no doubt they will surprise a lot of teams. A lot of VFL listed players which they will get for most of the season, article in the Herald Sun today also suggests Western Bulldogs premiership player Clay Smith has joined the coaching ranks. Starting off as a coach after coming off numerous knee injuries at AFL level but every chance he plays at some stage during the year.

Looking forward to seeing how B grade goes.
