Round 10 Tips:-

Fitzroy vs St Mary's Salesian
Old Ivanhoe vs Peninsula
Old Camberwell vs Old Geelong
Old Mentonians vs Williamstown CYMS
PEGS vs Marcellin

Fitzroy
OI
OG
Willy
PEGS
Tough part of the year when blokes are overseas, injuries kick in, uni exams and weather starts getting cold. Can throw up interesting results. Few clubs depth will be tested

Looking forward to heading to the Barnard today to watch the Wellers take on the Hoops. Should be a classic C Grade thriller diller as KB would say. Both teams in form.

Hello C - Bombs,
Had the pleasure of being invited down to the Gordon Barnard Reserve Canteen for some pregame fare. Nice coffees.
Certainly more spectator friendly down at Wellerland than in years gone by. The new stadium and scoreboard a big improvement from the dark days of years gone by.
The game started slowly with one goal each for the first 20 minutes and then OGGS went bang bang. Little Corney who was fab all day kicked truly, followed by a solid grab from ex Uni Blue big boy Sheridan. A sling tackle to Josh Holding who then kicked true, got one back for the Wellers and it was 2.4 to 3.1 at quarter time. OGGS by 3. The Wellers were dominant other than on the scoreboard, and apart from those 2 goals in two minutes, looked the better team.
Geelong kicked the first of the second term, and then the first signs of the Nick Adamson show began to surface. Bang..goal. Hensby smothered a ball, grabbed it, snapped it and goaled, before winning the ball a few moments later and hitting Latsas lace out for another Weller goal.
Halftime and Camberwell lead 5.5 to 4.4
At the start of the third quarter, the mighty hoops had the ball in their forward area, right in front of their dugout, but couldn’t convert. As often happens, when the Wellers finally went forward, they were the ones to score. Percy was starting to make his presence felt on ball and around the ground. Holding goals, Adamson goals and then Nick goals again. He was huge.
The Wellers went into the final huddle with a 27 point lead.
The final quarter starts and the Oggs need to get a move on. Bird is tackled high right in front and gets the first for the hoops. Then Long goals and things are getting tighter. Enter Nick Adamson who marks strongly and coverts in a real show of strength.
After this, both teams swap goals till the final siren, with the game never in doubt. Corney, Maiden and the Hoev for the hoops and Dalrymple and Latsas for the winners.
Great game, played in a great spirit. Umpires were spot an as per usual.
I gave 3 votes to Nick Adamson. He was a beast. Strong overhead, great kick, loves a don’t argue and is a bull entering the pack. Was incredible. Geelong had no answer to him.
2 votes to the big blonde bombshell Percy from Camberwell. He was fantastic. The Wellers dont have many talls, so he is often a one man band rucking. Continually smashing the ball out of the ruck 20 metres forward. Geelong used 2 or 3 up against him, but none of them had his aggression or desire for the hard contest.
I split the one vote to little Corney from OGGS who ran, tackled and tried hard all day. Great hands. A one touch player. Nippy!
And also Hensby from the Wellers who was great all day. A real leader.
Loved the game. Think the Wellers are destined for finals action on what I saw today. Go C Grade!
Cheers Hippster..

Nice report Hippster (with a double p!). Perhaps others at Premier C games could give a game a mention. I was at PEGS v Marcellin. I’ll give ve a report later...till then Go Socceroos!!!

Funnily enough I was at OI v Penninsula.

Tough seeing Peninsula getting out of the bottom two.

OI will be ruing the Marc and OG loses.

PEGS v MARCELLIN: Tricky wind kept scoring low and both teams defences were outstanding. Strong marking from key backs was the order of the day. So lots of turnovers with the wind and midfield pressure. Marcellin had better of first quarter, yet after 7 inside 50s failed to score and PEGS goaled first time forward through Mendico. It seemed like PEGS had the slight advantage of the swirly breeze that was pushing to the coaches box side, right of the VAFA screen, yet Marcellin kicked 3 to round out the quarter. Second quarter was a dour struggle with no score for the first 16mins until Baddeley dropped in up forward to mark and goal. The struggle continued with both teams content to play the coaches box side of the ground, with neither team willing to switch play. Baddely's goal came from the first time PEGS switched play so it's a wonder this wasn't tried more often by both teams. A scramble up forward for Marcellin resulted in the next goal at the 29min mark. 17PEGS to 28Marc at half time.

Romanyk who was well held by Hamblin and restricted through lack of good supply from the pressure game style of both midfields, broke the shackles to kick two in two minutes early in the third. PEGS kicked a third minutes later through debutant Saggio as PEGS threatened to break the game open by playing the 'camera' side of the ground. To Marcellin's credit they held firm and responded with two goals after repeated forward efforts through De Luca and Jones at 12 and 16 min marks. PEGS 36 - Marc 42 at 3qtr time. Last quarter was always going to be an arm wrestle. At the 7 min mark Marc skipper Jono Blanch kicked a goal from a set shot through the cross wind to give his side a break. He missed another minutes later for PEGS to respond with their final goal. Marcellin seemed to be running the ball well with chains of handballs but couldn't finish the job but had another 3 to 4 shots to stretch the lead to the final 11 points. Overall a good tussle with Marcellin's winning at the stoppages and ability to run the ball with good link ups the difference. Both defences were excellent. Fahey (#12) and Khallouf (#27) outstanding for PEGS and Hamblin (#12) and McKenzie (#45) equally good for Marcellin - all backs. For the record, plenty of youth in both teams - 3 debutantes for PEGS and Marc missing Robertson and Antypas (both in VAFA squad) and a stack of first year players in the team. An exciting fight for top 4 spots to come C bombers! PEGS should bounce back against St Marys, Marc v Camberwell a big clash next week and OGs (one game ahead of both of them) v Fitzroy another top of table clash, but it is early days 'on the back nine'.

FWIW assuming this occurs, is this the 3rd/4th year in a row that a team would do the double drop from B to D? Shows there isn't a lot of difference between the bottom half of B and the majority of C.

If sure Fitzroy and Willy would currently take it right up to the bottom 5 teams in B Grade.

Early tips. Rissoles comp is super close. Would love a 5!
Marcellin v Camberwell - So tough! Would go with the Wellers if it wasn’t at Marcellin. But Cox seems to have them motoring along nicely now. Go the home team. Eagles just.

Round 11 Tips C bombers!
This weeks big questions...

Old Geelong vs Fitzroy
(Can OGs bounce back against a top two team? Can Roys maintain a top 2 advantage?)

Williamstown CYMS vs Old Ivanhoe
(Will OI get within a few goals or even better like last time round or is home advantage too strong and Willy maintain top dog status?)

St Mary's Salesian vs PEGS
(Can St Marys bridge the 2 goal gap from R1 against PEGs and get a much needed win at home? Can PEGS bounce back and keep top 4 hopes alive?)

Old Mentonians
vs Peninsula
(Can OMs repeat the dose from R5 against Peninsula and put some serious space between them and relegation? Or can Peninsula begin a 'back 9' surge to stave off relegation?)

Marcellin vs Old Camberwell (match of the round for mind. Who will go 5 straight and make a pitch for top 4?)

Come tomorrow afternoon the big questions will be answered!

Fitzroy to win.
Williamstown
PEGS despite half the team in Europe. 8 starting senior players overseas.
OM
OC in a cracker. Beaten Fitzroy and OG recently that’s serious form.
