I don't think it will surprise many people if Hartung or Garlett play a bit of AFL footy this year.
However neither is exactly like for like with Sewell.

Greg Denham says that Hartung is 'burning up the track' and might be taking Sewell's spot . . . is this just loose talk from Denham or is the pressure really going to come from an outside running teenager?

It just sounded to me like typical lazy unresearched reporting from Denham. I wonder if he even knows that Hartung is an outside player?

If it is not from the Hawks coaching panel then not going to lose any sleep over Denham's tales. Good story anyway, if true.

Head to training and its easy to see .....others will support me and yes ......the clubs very happy with Billy , its not a knock on Dayle cos lets be honest , with the bullshit hype the kid came with its easy to understand why he's got a little ahead of himself . Clarko love's Billy .....he's everything Clarko love's .........and winning Clarko over get's you far at Hawthorn !!

I think Denham meant that Hartung will be the extra runner which means one player comes out..that could be Sewelly which makes sense because it's time Shiels showed what his really capable of in the guts . Let's not forget people that with Sucking, Duryea, Gibson, Lake, Stratts and Schoo in defence, one of Burgoyne, Hodge or Mitchell might not be needed in defence as much so more Midfield time for them to take up Sewellys role , helping along Shiels.

Watched Rd21 Hawks vs Pies replay on FOX TV on Saturday and some of Sewell's decision making was well below average, to say the least. Although it was only a replay, it got to a point where I cringed every time he had the ball and wished he did not get anywhere near the ball. Will this be Sewell's final season?

I don't think anyone is saying his physical efforts are down.
It's his decision making that has been letting him down. He seems to get the ball and either hold it too long and get tackled or just throws it on the boot without thinking.

Any of the new kids that break into our best 22 early will need to work hard. Billy may be 'zipping it up' but Sewell has proven he can play footy too. It's not all about speed/run.

Now don't get me wrong. If Billy, Dayle or any other new kid makes our best 22 they will deserve it and that would be fantastic for Hawthorn. Any debut from the new guys (or 2nd and 3rd year guys like Hallahan, Woody, Timmy, Luke Lowden etc) would mean real improvement in those guys and that would be most welcomed too.

I really want to see at least a couple new guys getting regular games this season. Not because of injury either but because of good form.

I'd love to see someone just force their way into our premiership side and own a position, dominate in their first year. It's been a while now. Was Cyril in 2008 the last for us?
