So should I put money on Buddy for Australian of the Year next year?

As soon as it was announced he signed with Sydney, I chucked a grand on Buddy for the Noble Peace Prize under the category of Science. So should I put money on Buddy for Australian of the Year next year?

Thanks SLB and Argy for you replies. Cheers.
BTW Schoey looking awesome!
I've been watching our replays on FoxTel for 3 months now (except Rnd 1 & 15 against Geelong & the Richmond game...) & I gotta say, that Sam Mitchell is a smart one - smart like a computer!
Take for example his quick kick forward from a contest. Most guys slam boot on ball & send it high & forward, hoping for distance/clearance from danger. Inevitably the ball reaches the next line which sees teammate facing the ball & opponent half a step behind, with body cover & best position - the opponent spoils the ball & all opponents charge forward onto it whereby our players are attempting to take possession & turn back toward goal. It's almost like a cleared kick from a contest is actually a negative as it favours the opposition in the next play.
But not that Mitchell - a huge % of his quick kicks forward from stoppages are kept low and deliberately fall short of the next line of players, meaning that our guys are actually in best position to lead their opponent to the ball.
I started to notice him doing this mid-year but never appreciated it until watching the replays. It's quite simple. Forwards (except that Buddy...) generally stand in front; defenders feel most at ease a 1/2 step behind & to the side of their opponent, remaining goal side but also having better body position for the aerial contest to punch. Mitch keeps his kicks low (head/chest high) & drops it short whilst gaining 20-25m to our advantage. It's ridiculous the number of times it worked in the QF against the AFL when guys like Lewis, Sewell, Gibbo, Lake & even Hodge just banged it on the boot & sent it high, seemingly assuming that high meant far & that far meant good.
Anyway, good work to young Mitchell - I reckon he's got a lot of upside that kid!
How will we man up in defense in the first 3 rounds with Lake out? Is this a bigger risk than we think against Lions, Bombers, and Dockers? Teams at start of the year are going to be really keen to have a good start.

Too short - too slow... Shame, he seems lovelyYou think he might make the grade and become a regular senior player? Assuming he puts in the hard yards, of course...
Not to mention - not dedicated enough!Too short - too slow... Shame, he seems lovely![]()
With Woody, Langers, Hartung, Garlett & Hallahan waiting to play we probably don't need him. Keep him in the squad rotation to rest our guns & play him through the middle part of the season - if he can hold down a spot then he's earned it.Run him in the twos then and see if he can do any good there. Who knows, maybe he'll pick up a Listen. Haha, but seriously though, he might prove to be reasonable depth if needed...

I know you're all joking, but what would happen if 18 year-old Sam Mitchell was in the 2013 draft?
1. Ball magnet
2. Brilliant hands
3. Kicks superbly with both feet
vs
1. Last in the Beep test
2. Takes several hours to run from back to forward line
3. Short stumpy legs
If we had taken him ahead of a speedster like Billy Hartung, it may have caused a riot!

If Schoey isn't ready then Spangher might have to be the one. McEvoy can rest back also.
I would think so too but he hasn't return to full training yet and hasn't participated in any match simulation work. Unless he participates in the NAB challenge matches he may have to return via Boxhill. I hope he's back by round 1 though.Surely he will be ready to go in round 1. It will be nearly 11 months since he did his knee by then.
