Pretty standard stuff. Intention is only ever part of the equation when deciding the punishment.

If Lynch lines Butts up to knock him out, misjudges the punch, whiffs it and lands on his ass, he's not getting suspended at all.

If he lines him up and just gets a glancing blow, he gets a big suspension.

If he lands the punch flush, he's into deregistration territory.

I think it was an instinctive reactiion to Lynch who had lost the plot.

So AFL 360 absolutely lighting up our defence saying look at all the incidents that should have been free kicks to Lynch, we are gonna cop it this week from the umps for arm chops and holding. All because a Richmond player threw a haymaker at one of our defenders otherwise no one would be talking about our defensive tactics.

I was thinking the same thing while watching that. The annoying thing was that most of the incidents they showed, were very minor and could easily gone either way. Jordan Lewis even said at one point that the example they showed was not a clear free. But Razor made out like each one was an obvious free.

honestly, it seems like they missed a heap of reportable incidents in the game. reckon we got lucky that both butts and tex didn't get cited for attempted striking or whatever they call that now. together with the others you mentioned, they really only focused on the big fish
