Can't wait to get stuck into these ****wits when we play our home QF against them
Collingwood will most likely finish 5th, with GC overtaking them for 4th - GC have Port & Essendon to finish, which should allow them to make up the percentage gap. That would put Collingwood in a home QF against Hawthorn, GWS, Freo or the Dogs.

That being the case, we'd be unlikely to face them again before the PF (assuming we win our home QF).

Good: winning by sheer willpower while the oppo has their boot on our throat.

Bad: Terrible missed passes in the midfield, again and again and....

Ugly: Rankine. Sack Rankine!

Let's face it, we all probably equally hate Collingwood (even more after this week) and the AFL's protected Bastard Child coached by the smug prick who drove a dagger into our last Premiership hopes.

Whoever rolls into AO for that first final should be expecting a boiling cauldron of heat and noise. The Umps too for that matter.

And this is why I can’t be confident of winning a flag with our coaching group. 3 games against top end teams with coaching groups bringing a plan specifically tailored to beating us. We’ll neither have our own plan nor adjust to counter that of our opponents. Winning 3 in a row is beyond us with our core philosophies.
And yet we have just won more than 3 in a row.

There was another umpire about 10m further on directly behind the closest one. Maybe TT only saw that one? Would be a weird thing to do otherwise
At the ground on that boundary, there were 3 green shirts. He popped the ball up to umpire 32. He isn't in the vision on any angle I've seen circulating.

My pure guess is he heard an ump call for the ball and popped it up to the one he saw. At the ground we all thought it would be a free and was silly. But that is what the umpire must have thought. He definitely wasn't booting it away from an umpire it was to him.

The whole point is moot anyway because 3 seconds later the Pies were awarded a free kick and did nothing with it.

Bad: Stupid & lazy shit that invites pressure on the team. Starting to look systemic and need to stop stop that shit.
Can hear the whistle blowing... brrrt "free kick **** Adelaide".

What has your inside 50 record been over the season? Maybe that's why you struggle against the Cats. Cats definitely the biggest challenge in finals for you.
We have averaged 50.4 I/50s by our oppo per game this year (this is the 10th worst - AFL average = 51.5)

But, importantly, our rebound 50 rate against our oppo is 78.8% (2nd best - GWS best with 79.0) and we average 39.7 rebound 50s per game (6th best - AFL average = 38.6))

Our defence holds up pretty well.

Can someone please explain to me how:

1. Rankine gets a fine for staging when he cops a shoulder to the neck, and doesn't get a free kick which should have been there.

2. Daicos hits Smith, Smith retaliates, and Daicos flops. Yet Daicos gets a free kick. Smith gets a fine. Daicos doesn't get a fine for staging.

3. Only weeks ago, Sam Darcy hits Butts off the ball which results in a punctured lung - and doesn't even get a fine.

Seriously, wtf is going on?

I nearly p155ed myself laughing at this....

On Sunday night, leading reporter Jon Ralph revealed the AFL will "look at" the incident in its weekly umpiring review. Whether it leads to any favourable outcomes for Collingwood is highly unlikely.
If it did lead to a favorable outcome for Collingwood in any way that negatively impacted us, our lawyers should immediately be putting and injunction on it and saying they can get f**ked. Otherwise, they can go back and award us the win V sydney in the goalgate game then and we can redo the 2023 finals series over it

WOW, the VFL are getting worried about us.

AFL 360 just had a 10 minute segment on all the frees we gave away on Saturday night that were not paid - Razor Rays segment was entirely about us.

Keanes and Keays throw.
TT kick the ball away when the ball was dead.
The Hinge free we did get for deliberate when it came off him last.

Of course they didn't show any of the frees we missed out on plus they didn't show the identical example of TT's one that occurred in the Sydney v Geelong game - that also wasn't paid.

Edit: they went as far as slow mo and still frames to show where all 4 umpires were and how did they miss the frees. Was truly bizzare. We will be rogered in the finals.

Not to mention, I noticed at least 5 examples of Collingwood throwing the ball. It infuriates me, this rubbish. Journalists are absolute scum in my opinion.

What do we make of our gameplan?

Yes we won, but to concede 71 inside 50s is ridiculous. We didn’t take the game on through the corridor like the Hawks did when they smashed the Pies. We moved the ball slow and down the line, played into Pies style.

Extra man in defence meant our defence held up but we had no one to kick it to so it kept coming back in.

I hope next game we play to our strengths, attack the game, get the ball to our forwards quickly. Need to also improve our clearance work.

Need to blow these ****ers away and don’t give them a sniff.

We did play that game to our strengths (well, as much as you can when you're getting spanked at clearance and getting pinned in). We have the best defensive profile in the league (and as Horne said on his show, the best since Melbourne 2021), pushed it into a defensive scrap where Collingwood couldn't get too many effective inside 50s, and won it on sheet talent. Effectively, we out Collingwood Collingwood.

Our strength isn't ball movement as we are one of the worst teams in the league at this aspect this year (currently 17th for proportion of chains that move from D50 to F50). It's stopping ball movement and doing damage once we eventually break through.

We are the third highest scoring team in the comp, aren’t we one of the best teams scoring from turnover? We aren’t doing that by not takin the game on and scoring quickly.

We’ve scored more than 200 points than Collingwood for the year and yet we outscored them by 3 points only. We conceded 71 inside 50s, no gameplan banks on that. Blight said no way can we keep that up and expect to win a flag.

You really want to play them in a final with a similar gameplan, concede that inside 50 differential again and hope our defence despite getting swamped can hold on for a narrow win again? Surely that’s not what you’re saying.

We changed a number of things against Collingwood on Saturday night.

The ground was wet, the ball was slippery and then the rain came.

1) In the first quarter we tried a number of kicks through the corridor and sadly some bad turnovers occurred. Until the last couple of weeks we have been avoiding the corridor against the good teams. We looked much better working the ball down the boundary after quarter time.

2) Both teams had an extra man in defence which has not been the case in most of our matches against top nine sides.

3) Our defenders mostly opted to punch rather than mark unless they were uncontested.

4) For the first time in six years we spoiled the ball forward, it rarely went over the back and when it did we had a spare man to mop it up.

5) We dramatically reduced the uncontested ball for Josh Daicos to set up their forwards entries.

It was obvious that they were winning the clearances and had a ridiculous number of inside 50s but after quarter time they rarely looked like scoring. Even in the first quarter their goals were more luck than game plan. De Goey’s soccer, the bounce into the Magpies players arms to run in for a goal.

Despite the statistics I never felt like they were going to over run us.

It will be a very different game at Docklands this week, we might play some pretty football.

I think we had a plan and then Collingwood blew us apart in the 1st

Some scrambling in the box decided to shore up the defence with the extra while we worked out getting it forward

While I do think we play on springboarding from defence we fell down in converting at half forward

Hmm who was there?

5) We dramatically reduced the uncontested ball for Josh Daicos to set up their forwards entries.
Hang on Ciao Giacomo havent you been banging on that it was Murphy the super stopper?

The ball being up Collingwood's attacking end for the majority of the game had as much impact on curbing Josh Daicos' defensive rebound numbers as Murphy.

God I hope our coaches don't become enamoured with him all over again

We had the extra in defence because Fly was worried about our talls, which left us with a free man.

Given their midfield was on top, probably ended up working in our favour.

We average scores from 59.3% of turnovers (2nd to Cats at 60.5%).

39.4% of our scores originate from our D50 (4th best) and 47.5% of our scores come from our F50 (4th best).

We also rebound from our D50 78.8% of the time (2nd best to GWS).

Centre bounce scores we are crap in (11.5% and 10th best). Scores from stoppage are also average at 35.1%. Our transition stats are below average.

Our gameplan is there for everyone to see. The stats don't lie.

We are not a fast moving transition footy side. We rely on turnover (hopefully from our defenders in our D50 or the centre) and then fast or slow footy movement (doesn't matter) to our 3 headed monster forward line to get the majority of our scores.

Some more stats to clearly show our gameplan - We are top of the CP average as well as top in CP percentage (40.8% of the time) and intercepts and GB gets and hard ball gets and post clearance CP and post clearance ground ball gets and 2nd in crumbing and 3rd in loose ball gets.

Simple game plan really. It is a turnover based high pressure "see ball get ball" possession gameplan. A true "back to basics" traditional footy gameplan.

If we dont get the ball cleanly or we turn it over (note that we are dead last in turnovers and clangers) then we are bloody good at getting it back when it is in contention or loose. We can certainly get it back pretty well.

The teams that have beaten us this year have stopped that scoring and possession mechanism - either by outscoring us in a shootout (as per early on in the year - until the Mastercoach turned us full 180 into a defensive oriented side) or, as Freo did, simply out pressure us and starve us of the ball or, knowing that we are crap with D50 to F50 transition, simply flooding back or holding up our transition from half back once our defenders have managed to get the oppo to turn over the footy (like on Saturday with the 71 I50s and only the 3 point win against the Pies).

And lastly you can always wait until we turn it over ourselves (we are after all the WORST turnover and clanger side by miles - we average 63 clangers and 68 turnovers per match and our DE at 70.3% is 2nd worst to Port). That is the ultimate way to beat us (ala as West Coast nearly in the first 3 quarters of our recent game - they scored 53 of their points from our turnovers and nearly beat us at our possession game).

These finals are going to be very interesting to see which teams will counter our strengths effectively and exploit our weaknesses. I really hope we don't get Geelong until the GF (if we make it that is). They have the wood on us and play a high transition game which we struggle to counter.
