I suspect you can't classify an off the ball hit as "careless", it has to be intentional.

No injuries is the main thing. Hard to judge with dead rubbers, but our wins against two of the bottom three and spluttering Pies hasn't looked great on the surface. Fancy Tex's 300 coinciding with our return to finals after 7 years.

Just been shaking my head all season how we continue to get SMASHED in clearances and continue to win.

Can’t do this in finals and expect to win. Serious question to this board, WHY THE HELL ARE WE SO BAD AT CLEARANCES?!

Clearances is only one part of the equation - we are no 1 for contested possession, ground ball gets, loose ball gets and 3rd for hard ball gets.

We are 2nd of all finals teams for stoppage clearances (behind Brisbane only) and we are above GWS, Collingwood and Hawthorn for centre clearances.

Draper definitely done for the year, Dowling hangs around, Taylor probably hangs around, and Smith might have a role as the specialist sub.

Didn’t learn too much else - did move the ball nicely from defence though.

5AA commentary team mentioned Dawson bumped into an umpire and he was on his final warning!
Hate to see him suspended for the 1st final.

They said they were going to suspend players, bet they don’t. Give Laird an extra week as a trade off.

Dowling was ok. Kicked a couple of goals from set shots and did a few nice things around the ground. Draper struggled badly and was well off the pace before getting subbed.

Collingwood, GWS and Hawthorn are near the bottom of the table for clearances. Theres more to the game now than just winning clearances. We are actually 5th, with brisbane, GC, Kangaroos and Bulldogs above us.... Doesn't mean much now.

You’re looking at raw stats, not the best measure . We’re equal 9th/10th on clearance differential. That’s the measure against our direct opponent game by game. We basically break even on average. It’s never been the be all and end all, for years we won raw clearances but our midfield were routinely torched. There’s a lot more that a midfield needs to do after the clearance.

Mostyn I'm interested to hear your view of the umpiring today. Was it just bad or do you think there was some influence by the higher ups at the AFL?

You seriously reckon a high up employee at AFL Hoyse thought they’d get the umpires to turn the game in favour of 17th to topple first. Even when top 2 was guaranteed for us. You can’t be that stupid.

B: Michael Christian will be licking his lips about potentially banning Daws and Laird, especially if we’re playing the Pies week 1.

U: Obviously the terrible umpiring decisions. Total amateur hour. The short boundary throw ins were annoying.

Draper got his taste, now he'll go back and hopefully have a ripper SANFL final series. He needs a proper pre-season.
