Review R8: The Good, Bad and the Ugly vs. Carlton

An all-round strong performance with an ideal balance between attack and defence. That said, we have Carlton's number so this result wasn't some huge shock.

Yes, it was a great win, but we need to perform like this away and against teams Nicks struggles against. A win against Collingwood would get me on board as tough as that will be, so I would even settle for a win against the struggling Swans in a month as an important turning point.

With that out of the way, Dawson back in form sets the tone for the rest of the team. Zac Taylor belongs, Peatling needs as many CBAs as possible, Rachele can spend more stints in the middle (not full-time as he we also require him forward), Butts should've been playing when Murray was first injured to begin with.

60 point win and that's all we care about? Can't a win just be enjoyed for what it is? I don't get it.
I posted that before the match started.

Worrell fantastic
Dawson back to doing Dawson things.
ANB is an astute pick up just seriously dependable each and every game.

Attack and defence balance was spot on. And who’d have though picking a key defender to replace a key defender when the opposition have two key forwards would be the move?

Peatling, Taylor, Curtin and Milera all elevated their game today

The opening we had in the midfield really helped the first three get some more on ball time and they performed.

If only there was some way to know beforehand that we would benefit from giving guys like Peatling and Taylor more time up the ground and on ball....

Ah well, just a lucky and unpredictable improvement

How bad must Voss be to be completely out coached by Nicks?
He is not a good coach. It has been pretty clear that the best way to beat us is to play that high pressure game and pressure the ball carrier. We don't have an answer when that happens. So Voss decides to give us time and space to play quick attacking footy which plays right into our strengths.

I loved the first half from Curtin, Taylor and Rash, they tired out in the 2nd half but all 3 looked really good in the first half.

ROB actually done most of the things he was bagged for not doing last week. His ruck-work was classic. :thumbsu:
Yasssss! RoB was great! Even his one-two receive... did not look that ungraceful! 🤣

No, he played a very solid game against the much-vaunted Tom De Koning. Impressive!

Nek minnit (apologies for the hark back to 2013), he reverts to factroy 🥔 setting against the 🍐

Good
Worrell
Milera
Laird
Max
Dawson

Bad
Carlton
Nicks subbing out nankervis instead of Tex

Ugly

This is possibly unfair but Tex struggled and looked like bending was an issue. If we want to get him to 300 we need to be more clever

Ok hand up, the selections this week I complained about.

BUT

Smith was good
Berry should stay in and be our Crouch replacement, has speed, is strong and is now cleaner. 30% TOG for 3 clearances, 2nd highest
Butts wasn't a complaint but should of been in ages ago.
Taylor and Curtin both very good
Worrell, Keane and Max very good down back. Smith, Milera and Laird all strong.
Peatling and Rachelle in middle, more please. Add in Soligo, Rankine and Berry its a good mix
RoB played well against DeKoning

Bad

Nankervis looked down, might be at risk with potential for Draper
RoB keeping McAndrew out for another week
Smith and Milera will limit the Edwards debut
Tex looked laboured, might need to give him a rest. With Dawson up forward that becomes less of a problem

Wasn’t a great game by Tex, had some ordinary moments. Looked more likely than TT and fog though
