Interesting idea- but then you would really have the world Cup spread out too far. Take a look at both Australia and the uSA, where you could have teams (and supporters) taking five or six hour flights from one venue to another. Add in a couple more thousand miles for going from the heart of Russia to the east coast- yes, you might have the divergence of time zones, but the players and fans would be really messed up.

I guess it could work if you have two groups of teams based in Eastern Russia who play each other in the second round.

Vladivostok to Moscow is a 8 hour flight I believe!!!

The one huge advantage for FIFA would be the massive range of timezones available to them. They could telecast one game each day in prime time to Europe, North America & Asia - that's pretty cool. Would also add to the legacy argument for Russia with the football facilities left behind post World Cup in Siberian cities.

The only reason I can think that Russia didn't propose it is because it breaches some sort of FIFA regulations in regards to spreading the WC over so many timezones. Like you said, it would be an interesting concept. Perhaps Russia may decide to go down that avenue if it wins 2018 - we shall see.

Wouldnt work. Siberia is a hole. Most of Russia lives in the Europe part.

And the Russian bid already has problems with transport. Watch "the long way around", and u will understand the problems facing the Far East.

ohh, its starting. Edit: nice Russian pole-vaulter is involved. Give them the Cup now.

No Kournikova but there appears to be a pole vaulter who is easy on the eye.

Edit: Not that great a face but brilliant body.

Was just watching the Russian bid live, they were making some interesting and compelling arguments. Though, I'm always distracted by the Russian accent, it just cracks me up.

'Velkolm da Russhya. Ve neva hav Vold Kup but ve very sucessbul if ve hav Vold Kup.'

i want spain to win

russia will be an exciting and volatile world cup

the russians are crazy m-ffers!

and sydney fan with regards to your appalling russian:

nyet!

Seriously, after watching the blonde video narrater at work, the Russian bid should've just featured their women and suggestions that the ex-co members would be well looked after.

Thought the presentation was good, except the last speaker didn't really do anything for me.

Last speaker stuffed it up. Talked way too long. Needed it to be short and sweet. I reckon Putin was meant to speak last, and his withdrawing from the presentation hurt the quality of that last speak.

Its between corrupt Spain and there "look at waht the English did to our fantastic heavonly organization", compared to the English star appeal and money to the poor.

chto?

oh my god! some people can somewhat understand russian all the sudden?

ps practiced some russian with russian co-worker, she thinks its easy

kak pozhivaete?

neeploha!

Russian blondes have a short shelf life. That's if you like fumbling with shelves and blondes. I prefer brunettes.

African teams will juuuust love Russia. I know every nation has their arseholes but I haven't seen anything as blatant as this from the other 2018 bidding countries.

Bit of background on this photo incase anyone is scratching their heads. These are Lokomotiv Moscow fans "thanking" West Brom for buying their Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie.
