Dick Pratts mantra was don't go for the best available - go for the best.

Don't know what others think but Nick Reiwoldt looked a broken man on Friday night against the Pies.

Let's take a dip at him - a cool $1M a year should do it !! :D:D

On a more serious note, what about Sam Gilbert ??

(apologies if mentioned earlier).

Lure him in with some 16 year old shlappas?

You're right.

Although we did try to trade for him - it failed (Thank God).

and we picked him up Scott Free!

I actually thought Johnson had a lot to offer, and was pretty harshly delisted. He had a few really good games (prior to what i think was a hand injury) as a defensive midfielder.

You're going to laugh at me, but from the tiny little bits that i have seen him, i think Sam Sheldon is a pretty handy footballer (No idea how much he is rated at Brisbane) - Also has the Carlton ties.

I agree on Johnson being prematurely delisted after working on the areas that the coaching staff wanted improvement in. He then performed at a decent level but obviously didn't do enough to prove himself.

Sheldon doesn't inspire me.

He's having a decent season but not one to lose any sleep over.

Not suggesting for Carlton to seek him, as he would be way down the order in terms of smallish Half forwards. However if he did want to come home, i probably wouldn't dismiss the idea. It's more of a good feeling than anything else.

Mainly attributed to being a similar (yet not in the same ball park) size/shape/playing style to Murphy

Getting Sam Sheldon would certainly make the 'Toughest year for delisting in over a decade' thread easier for us.

John Butcher

i know it will be somewhat impossible too get him from that club in SA but he would be a very, very good pickup. offer them hampson and a first round pick and hopefully bobs your uncle

Has been impressive in his first 2 games. Wish we could get a young KPF to have an immediate impact.

Would love to get him.

Any 1 know his contract status. Club would be mad not to look abroad for some young KPF.

I'm going to have to pass on trading Hampson AND a first round pick for Butcher.

Overpaying.

Out of contract at end of the year, and last week announced that he was putting contract talks off until the end of the year.

Butcher has 4 straight to half time today.

Long time lurker, but after seeing John Butcher play today I had to post!

Development and age may be a bit below what we need for a quick fix KPF, but if he can consistently do what he did today for a team like Port, we should definitely look at him.

We won't get a quick-fix KPF but if if we simply concentrate on the 'fix' part of the equation it might come quicker than expected. The last time we tried for a 'quick-fix' of something, we got Brock McLean.

Hampson and a 2nd round pick would be worth the deal. The thing is this draft is pretty weak ,so really that first pick will possibly be more a dud, so it really losing a 3rd Ruckman, who had potential for like 6 years, but has played in patches. We could always find a 3rd Ruckmen for a rookie in case of injuries to Kreuzer and Warnock. Kreuzer will be a wasted talent up forward, when he should be used in the middle.

Overpaying is if that player traded is really good or that player been recruited is passed 24, Butcher could give us 10 years. He just turned 20, there be no key forward left in the draft after the first 5 picks. I really think it's worth giving up our first pick with something to get him. The club gave away a first pick for Brock Mclean a player not really needed, who had many injury concerns. Port Adelaide need a Ruckmen for a decade. How good would it be if we had Butcher and Mitchell, for 10 years up forward, like Lloyd and Lucas did for Essendon and both come good.

I don't know if this has been discussed but is there any chance of luring Alex Silvagni?
I wouldn't really go after him, but I reckon he will be discussed with Paul Bower wanting to go to Freo in 2012.

I really think the club should go hard in getting Chris Dawes, but that won't happen, so go for Brendan Fevola MARK II look a like John Butcher.

After Butcher's game this weekend, I think Port are going to want something pretty significant in return.

Facepalm x every post involving Butcher.

Firstly he will cost a lot for a young and developing KPP who is only two years in.

Secondly Hampson is worth roughly the same, if not more for me. Further along in development and look like a pretty sure thing to at least be good.

Thirdly BRYCE GIBBS for BUTCHER is Highway robbery. No matter what pick you throw in

Throw the bank at Colin Sylvia.

We need a player of his class (hard bodied, can leap, monster kick) to sit at HFF.

We don't often get to deal with Melbourne, so it would be good to see what sort of an agreement we can come to lol

.. If we can't get Sylvia, try for Chris Knights.

We have picked up two duds in Mclean & Johnson in the last few years from Melbourne, not sure on our needs are for Sylvia, believe we have greater needs that for him.

Butcher, Dawes, Trengove, Lake, Clarke, Sylvia and Reid...

These are the names that we should be looking at come trade time!
