John Longmire played 10 games in 1999 without kicking a goal. Too young to remember, did he go into defence in 99?

Played mainly as a relief ruckman from memory and primarily played loose in defence while doing that role.

Correct

Though you both neglected the fact he was over the hill and gifted a premiership by Pagan after sadly missing out in '96.

I'd like to piss in this loo....

As long as someone doesn't brush past you while you're doing it Dan, you'll end up on the floor clutching your back, writhing in pain and you'll have to go out on a stretcher.

It was a gift to his teammates too. Pretty sure Denis said at the time that he wondered if it might have made the difference in 1998.

I had to stop my car in tears when I heard Longmire had been picked in 99 - still have my jumper with his number and signature on the back. These days I can't even hate Sydney as much as I'd like (easy when Roos ran the show).

Crystalised in my mind are 2 moments from the 99 Grand Final.

1 Corey McKernan's goal from inside the center square, from that point I knew we would win.
2 The team piling on top of Horse and the cheers when he got his medal.

yep no sentiment in footy can GAGF.

Mine was Winnie running into goal in the square at the Punt Rd end...start of last Q?

The outline of the Kangaroo is gold.

My uncle was involved in the production of this commercial, in what seems like a lifetime ago now.

Correct. Its sad that some people forget Horse was an absolute gun before copping knee injuries and was better than Wayne Carey in the very early 90's. In 1990 kicked 12 & 14 goals in a game, fond memories.

Grantland.com put up an article about an NFL analyst looking at three of the biggest indicators of teams future performance. All three of the indicators absolutely scream North Melbournes 2013 season... the indicators were

1. Pythagorean Expectation - An equation to determine expected wins based off points scored and point allowed, Our % of 115 suggests our expected wins would be a lot higher
2. Games decided by a goal or less - The theory is a team with bad/good luck here (like us with our 0-4 record) can't be expected to maintain that luck
3. Strength of Schedule

In the article the Indianapolis Colts are used as an example of the "Anti-North Melbourne" and had a poor Points differential, lots of wins in close games and an easy schedule. The writer then suggests that going by those numbers alone they'll have a steep decline next season.

Pretty meaningless, but I thought I'd share as I found it pretty interesting.

Absolutely non football related thought.

Anyone seen the beard on Tom Petrovski doing the Channel 10 comsec update at night. Did he lose a bet or join some strange religious group.

But the NFL have an entirely different type of fixturing with conferences etc.

That said, if this the worst it can get....

The AFL app has both disposal and possessions and they are often different by a few. Would my guess that kicking off the ground is a disposal but not a possession be right?

A kick off the ground is considered both a possession and a disposal.

People are often confused but there is a difference:

Possession is how you get the ball (eg. contested possessions, marks, free kicks, handball receives and gathers etc.)

Disposals on the other hand are how you distribute the ball (eg. kicks and handballs).

Make sense?

Using Ziebell as an example.

He may take a contested mark at the end of the match or as the siren goes at a quarter break and not dispose of it. Therefore being accredited with a possession and not a disposal.

If he wins a free kick by sticking his head over the ball like a raging ****in bull and gets taken high and Liam Anthony swoops on it like a seagull taking the advantage then Ziebell is accredited with a possession, and not the disposal.

Loose ball get, then a kick that is smothered off the boot is another example. Sometimes Champion won't record the kick in that instance etc.

Hope that helps Pez.

False. A mark is not a possession, only kicks & handballs.
