This is why I believe that once players are eligible for restricted free agency, they should also be eligible to go on the veterans list for their current club. Unless it's changed again, I think that means they can be paid an extra $100k outside the cap.
Tex is by far and away my favourite player but it's very easy to be loyal when your playing for the team you grew up barracking for and playing as close to home as possible.i know footballers aren't the smartest beings going around but asking for more money to stay loyal is probably the funniest thing i have heard a footballer say for a long time.
I just luv people like Tex.
Because he wants something to sit on?I know this might not mean much but Danger was out buying furniture today.. why would he buy furniture here when he could just buy it in melb if he was moving back there?? hey hey?haha

The Allowance will be 1.229% of the Total Player Payment limit.
However, "Fitzpatrick revealed the league's veterans' allowance will be abolished in 2017."

Ah righto, thanks for that.
Well, perhaps the league could look at introducing something like the NBA has with the Larry Bird exception, where a team can exceed the cap to re-sign it's own free agents. Everybody likes the idea of club loyalty, but if there are no tangible rewards for remaining loyal, it's not going to happen. All of the league's star players have just witnessed a 19 year old who has done SFA at AFL level, switch clubs on $1m a year, in a trade that involved the captain of the other team.
Oh well he's gone for sure. You can add Mark Robinson to that as well

Good point - have a bad feeling Saints have landed with a grandfather offer that's rocked his landscape.
Not really. I think you made a moral judgement which is extremely easy knowing that you would never be put in the position to have to make the same decision.i made my point
its great to see him as the captain of the AFC he could have easily gotten an extra $300-400 a yr if he left.Tex is by far and away my favourite player but it's very easy to be loyal when your playing for the team you grew up barracking for and playing as close to home as possible.
Is a grandfather offer harder to resist then a Godfather offer? LolGood point - have a bad feeling Saints have landed with a grandfather offer that's rocked his landscape.
so its easy for tex but hard for danger and sloane? Not really. I think you made a moral judgement which is extremely easy knowing that you would never be put in the position to have to make the same decision.
Sloane clearly wants to stay loyal to Adelaide and play his entire career here. Im sure Adelaide would trip over themselves to match any offers coming his way if they had the cap space to do it. I feel for blokes like him that have to make the decision to leave a club because it would be financially ridiculous for him to do anything else.
Imagine if after all this Danger signs for 5 years and Sloane and Douglas leave.

I wonder what offers Tex turned down last year?so its easy for tex but hard for danger and sloane?
Will supporters turn on Danger if he goes? Is going to only Geelong an acceptable bitter pill to swallow but regrettable loss?
I mean if he went to Freo or Sydney, I think BF posters will hunt him down.![]()

Dont forget, as someone else mentioned. Tex had always been an Adelaide supporter, he dreamed of playing for the Crows. Adelaide is as close to home as its going to get for him.
Ha ha - I know, I know - can be a bit manic at times.unlike you to take the half empty view
Sloane is going nowhere
Depends on where he goes and how.
I don't think anyone begrudges him the choice of being a free agent.
