I understand there's collaboration at a footy ops level - and things like money and contracts are out of the coach's hands - but ultimately if the coach wants to target a player he deserves the right to live and die by the sword.

Perhaps that's old-school thinking, but it's certainly closer to what we've got now with Walsh answering only to the CEO.
Live and die by the sword went out the window after terry wallace at the tigers.

The coach should tell the recruiting/list management staff what sort of player he is after. Give suggestions sure, but if he is overruled by our staff specifically in the role of recruiting quality players to the club he should back them. Otherwise we have the wrong people in those positions.

Isn't Noble like the GM of Football Operations too? So he's not just the list manager, but oversees the entire football side of the club. I dunno if that's just a fancy title and if that differs from just an ordinary List Manager role or not though.

Justin Reid is List Manager now. If anything this will keep us out of the headlines. They don't care about us over there in Melbourne and the flowof information will be less.

Its kinda frustrating as supporters to not know about trade targets but I understand it.

Noble is now the GM of Football Operations, back when the time of the discussion Noble was the List Manager, then he had to do both jobs for a bit, and now has stepped back that Justin Reid is in the position.

Kane Cornes, talking on radio this morning, unintentionally gave a disturbing insight into the former runnings of our club.

He said Phil Harper and Brenton Sanderson were at his house at the end of 2011, trying to lure him across to Adelaide. He said he was basically ready to switch clubs, and that Sando wanted him, but when they took it to the list manager (David Noble) he overruled Sanderson.

Whether you think Cornes would have been a good acquisition for us is beside the point - this story uncovers more hidden little gems of the former AFC administration's phaggotry and ineptitude.

The disturbing points:

1. A list manager or someone in football operations overruling a head coach on tactical requirements.

2. Phil Harper in charge of ANYTHING remotely resembling on-field strategy and success.

Could anybody imagine Phil Walsh saying "I want player X" and then the footy operations department saying "nah, sorry Walshy, we don't think we need him..."

The more that is revealed about how our club ran under Trigg, the sicker every Adelaide member feels.
I would've thought you'd have that discussion BEFORE you tried to poach a player, not after.

Harper is a Communications person, right? So why was he ever put in football department roles?

A mate just turned up from Adelaide and about 2 weeks ago he dined with Sloaney's parents in a group of 6. Apparently His best mate has been friends with Mrs Sloane since they were kids. Nothing, not a thing. the topic of Rory's contract, or Rory himself, did not come up. Can you effing believe it.

I thought at the start of the year that maybe losing Dangerfield wouldn't be a complete disaster, but the way he's been playing the last 3-4 weeks, it be a massive one if we lost him.
Ive thought for a while that after dangers last 2 years being sub par hes holding out to show some form this year to up his contract offer

Not these days. The list manager has final say, but the coach would definitely have some influence. I listened to the afl podcast 'Road to the Draft' and Callum Twomey was interviewing Sando. He asked him to explain how the coach, recruiters and list manager all work together and who has the most say etc. Sando said the coach ultimately submits to the list manager as well as the advise of the recruiters. Callum Twomey agreed that that's how it should be and in fact is done at good clubs.
