I have a problem figuring out how we can best use Darcy and Jackson in the team with Amiss and Tracey. I like the idea of Jackson and Darcey on the field most of the time, but our history shows that we have trouble meshing in the forwards together. Add in Reid, Dudley and Bolton and we have issues.

I'll go old fashion here ......

Why should the rucks rotate off the field ?, when Darcy rotates off rucking, he toddles down to the goal square area and drifts from point post to point post. Having him there means he takes a tall and can take a grab or use his body to effect.

Modern day footy players spend more energy getting off and on the ground for their interchanges, than chasing the ball !!!!.

I noticed that Draper for the Bombers played 100% TOG this week, certainly not the norm.

He was the backup ruck though and without watching the game, I recon he probably went into the ruck late in the quarter so he got a rest during the breaks.

Ruck is one of the most demanding positions on the ground and they are the heaviest players. They need a rest.

I fully agree, which is why it was weird to see Draper at 100% TOG. Darcy could NEVER and should never be doing this.

Darcy is pretty effective in the forward 50. I don't know what his stats are, but he clunks them and he's a pretty decent set shot. He can kick goals, and with his more streamlined version....who knows. Probably better than Sandilands was in this respect.

Just gotta get him on the park!! That's the tricky part

Agreed, I see Bolton as just moving into second gear ( bloody sticky gear box ).
Yep - Longmuir has referenced he has come off a low base. He has already made a massive difference with clean hands and the options he chooses. Wait until he figures things out with team mates and for some of our mids to look for him on the way out of contests.

It is going to be a fun year!

I really hope someone this week spends a good amount of time with him and lets him know that he needs to chill a little. JLs message about goals in his presser was on the money, just get out there and play a natural game without feeling like he needs to press so much.

Will be particularly good once he has learnt that Liam Baker isn’t any longer one of those teammates.

Seems clear that something would have been said. They should also speak to a few of our mids and forwards about releasing the ball to him when he is in a better position than them.

It will come together. They haven't played a handful of games yet. Chemistry will be amazing by the time we have our first finals win this season.

Watching a reply, there's more to like than we prob think on game day when nerves are frayed. You can see that with a solid block of games there's another level that the likes of Bolton, Dris, Ras, reid, Johnson, Worner, Chappy can get to. As well as Voss and Amiss kicking for goal.

Bolton and Dudley (!) both lovely classy touches. Once Bolton gets comfortable in the team and stops trying too hard around goals, he is gunna be a beauty.

Also, another optimism point: The West keeps amusing us with absolute howlers… Dudley as the replacement for Walker?!? 😂

The solution is to play him on ball, (one of say six midfielders) a kick behind the play or on the wings as an outlet marking player and run with the traditional two bigs in the forward line. Doesnt mean of course he couldnt drift down forward occasionally and cause a height mismstch.

We have one of the AFL top ten most accurate goal kickers of the last 50 years on our list and still to come back into the side.
In front of the sticks, Sturty goes better than Tory Dickson did, and nearly as well as Larkey does.
Came here to post this, good call - we need Sturt to play. For all the Sturt doubters, you need to have seen this:

Luke Jackson was the highest rated player by champion data league wide on the weekend. Thought he was best on personally and should have had the medal.

Great to see him building into his talent. Also, as mentioned by Snuffaluphagus lets keep him onball or with license to roam as much as possible. Wouldn't mind resting him forward when needed. The rest of the time he can roam and then be second ruck.

I doubt he will do much this year with this knee issue lingering and interrupted pre season.

I missed the first half as I was at work. I watched a full game replay and Jackson was best on by a long way. Everything he did was damaging and he took some great marks. Best game since that Norf game last year.

Serong was good, Brayshaw fumbled a lot in the first half. He cleaned it up in the second though and looked better so I can understand why he didn't win.

Yeah i agree, if i was voting on the medal i would have gone:
3. LJ
2. Serong
1. Treacy

Sturt would be in for Voss if he was fit. Hope he can get that knee right.

At the end of last season it seemed like he was putting it all together. He had some great pressure and contest work when required and his normal class kicking to a lead or for goal was there. Will be a big upgrade if we can get him into the team and he gets a good look at it.

Feeling optimistic this week! I think Bolton will improve again, Amiss will bring more confidence to the game and Treacy will kick an easy 4.

Challenge Andy and CS to lead the mids in the contest with flashes of brilliance from Jackson and Bolton.

Challenge Jackson to continue his form and dominate English.

My concerns are Pearce and Ryan. Both have been shaky to start the year and both have made stupid errors in each game. They need to be better and can be better.

We want to see Chappy continue to build form and it will be interesting to see if Draper can go with a small or small/medium again.

A lot to like about this week. I think we win by 4-5 goals.
