We've brought in some seriously good talent this year, I thought all of Reid, Dudley and Bolton played very well today.
Agreed, I see Bolton as just moving into second gear ( bloody sticky gear box ).

I have a problem figuring out how we can best use Darcy and Jackson in the team with Amiss and Tracey. I like the idea of Jackson and Darcey on the field most of the time, but our history shows that we have trouble meshing in the forwards together. Add in Reid, Dudley and Bolton and we have issues.
I'll go old fashion here ......
Why should the rucks rotate off the field ?, when Darcy rotates off rucking, he toddles down to the goal square area and drifts from point post to point post. Having him there means he takes a tall and can take a grab or use his body to effect.
Modern day footy players spend more energy getting off and on the ground for their interchanges, than chasing the ball !!!!.
He was the backup ruck though and without watching the game, I recon he probably went into the ruck late in the quarter so he got a rest during the breaks.I noticed that Draper for the Bombers played 100% TOG this week, certainly not the norm.

Ruck is one of the most demanding positions on the ground and they are the heaviest players. They need a rest.
Darcy is pretty effective in the forward 50. I don't know what his stats are, but he clunks them and he's a pretty decent set shot. He can kick goals, and with his more streamlined version....who knows. Probably better than Sandilands was in this respect.I'll go old fashion here ......

Yep - Longmuir has referenced he has come off a low base. He has already made a massive difference with clean hands and the options he chooses. Wait until he figures things out with team mates and for some of our mids to look for him on the way out of contests.Agreed, I see Bolton as just moving into second gear ( bloody sticky gear box ).

Will be particularly good once he has learnt that Liam Baker isn’t any longer one of those teammates.Yep - Longmuir has referenced he has come off a low base. It is going to be a fun year!
I really hope someone this week spends a good amount of time with him and lets him know that he needs to chill a little. JLs message about goals in his presser was on the money, just get out there and play a natural game without feeling like he needs to press so much.

The solution is to play him on ball, (one of say six midfielders) a kick behind the play or on the wings as an outlet marking player and run with the traditional two bigs in the forward line. Doesnt mean of course he couldnt drift down forward occasionally and cause a height mismstch.I have a problem figuring out how we can best use Darcy and Jackson in the team with Amiss and Tracey. Came here to post this, good call - we need Sturt to play. For all the Sturt doubters, you need to have seen this:We have one of the AFL top ten most accurate goal kickers of the last 50 years on our list and still to come back into the side.
In front of the sticks, Sturty goes better than Tory Dickson did, and nearly as well as Larkey does.
I doubt he will do much this year with this knee issue lingering and interrupted pre season. We have one of the AFL top ten most accurate goal kickers of the last 50 years on our list and still to come back into the side.

Luke Jackson was the highest rated player by champion data league wide on the weekend. Thought he was best on personally and should have had the medal.
Great to see him building into his talent. Also, as mentioned by Snuffaluphagus lets keep him onball or with license to roam as much as possible. Wouldn't mind resting him forward when needed. The rest of the time he can roam and then be second ruck.

Sturt would be in for Voss if he was fit. Hope he can get that knee right.
