Redbacks 2018/19

Will be interested in our white ball setup. Wonder if Carey or Ludes are in the mix there? Hopefully not ludes. Cooper out presents a vacancy - as he *was* one of our best white ball bats last season.

Will we still favour five bowlers? Not sure it works too well (that said Andrews with technical improvement is a genuine batsman of the future hopefully. And Zamps/Joe/Kane can bat) but we can't really rely on 10 overs out of Head/Lehmann, can we? So we'll probably be forced into it.

An option is to perhaps use Weathers as the gloveman. His keeping's similar to Carey's - and then slot Page in. But it does feel like a shallow top 6, really. Especially with 5 bowlers.

Still no genuine allrounder. Would be great if Andrews or Gregory develop to that level. Helps the balance of the team immeasurably plus reduces the workload on our three main quicks.

Yep. None look to be coming through either. Keath is lost to us & wasn't bowling anyway, Cormack's batting is lacking and from the 19s Umpherston's nothing more than a genuine, genuine part timer and McGregor-Batista's not proficient enough in either skill. Maybe Pengelley but that's probably stretching it. Think this is a long term problem unless we recruit or develop Trav's bowling big time.

Cossie can't really complain about getting cut. There would be dozens of batsmen in grade cricket who could come in and score 20s and 30s like Cossie did. Might as well invest some games in some kids.

Cossie can score 20 or 30 buckets now.

7 players in the Aussie A squad of 24. Pretty handy going

Reckon this will be our best team next season:

1. Carey
2. Weatherald
3. Ferguson
4. Head
5. Lehmann
6. Ross
7. Ludemann
8. Zampa
9. Mennie
10. Sayers
11. Worrall

Main changes - Carey promoted to open, taking the spot of Cosgrove. This brings Ludeman back into the mix. Also Ferguson replacing Raphael.

Depth
Bat - Raphael, K Smith
Quicks - Richardson, Benton
Spin - Andrews

Hearing a bit of movement between grade teams for prominent players: - Richardson and Zampa from East Torrens to Kensington. - Winter from Tea Tree Gully to Adelaide University. - West leaving Prospect to go back to NSW.

So IIRC correctly SACA dumped both Klinger and Botha for Cossie who they dumped the next year anyways, obvious mistake in hindsight.
However, I've just read this article that Johan Botha is a naturalized citizen, which means provided he still lives in S.A surely he'd be able to get a game for the Redbacks. Maybe not in the Matador but he's easily a better option than Andrews and Zampa in First Class cricket and could hold down a middle order spot quite handily.
Any reason he's not getting any FC games?

Think he's retired from long form cricket. Only plays one dayers and Twenty20s for his club team. Would like to represent Australia at T20 level I believe.

I'd be happy to have Botha captain our T20 side to be honest. We are a rubbish nation in the format and would be happy to try out a more specialised team in the format. A few ODI players in there maybe but probably just the developing ones.

Aaron Finch
Tim Paine (+)
Chris Lynn
Travis Head
Glenn Maxwell
Ben Cutting
Johan Botha (c)
Pat Cummins
Adam Zampa
AJ Tye
Jason Behrendorff

Is it the best 11 players available? No. But it's an actual side with balance that would achieve a lot more.

I'd have Boyce instead of Zampa. White would be a chance as well?

Could easily make 6 changes to that side, was more trying to make a point about the type of side I would pick in the format.
Yeah, I don't mind the general make-up. I would be playing Sam Whiteman too,

As an opener maybe. One of the issues with the current T20 team is trying to sneak a keeper into the middle order costs team balance and consistency.

Anyway, I won't derail the SA thread further. :)

Shield season starts again on Wednesday. We play WA in Adelaide.

No Head or Zampa - away with Aussie team. Joe Mennie out with a skull fracture.

I'm thinking it will be Weatherald, Smith, Raphael, Ferguson, Cooper, Lehmann, Carey, Richardson, Sayers, Worrall and a 4th quick

Not sure if Worrall and Richardson are 100% right to go though?

Fourth quick out of Grant, Benton, Opie, Valente, Gregory, Agar. Not sure which way they'd go. Doubt they'd go with a spinner.

Well, I was pretty wrong on the team

Kelvin Smith OUT. Replaced by Alex Ross. Was probably a bit unlucky to lose his place. Broke his hand in the one day series, Cooper took his spot and started churning out runs. Hasn't been able to get back in! Fair enough that Smith's out I think. Was given the first five games and just hasn't put the runs on the board unfortunately.

No Worrall. Guess he's still on the comeback trail from injury.

Two bowlers will play out of Grant, Valente and Andrews. At Glenelg Oval which is rarely green. Would think you'd want to go with the spinner. Valente would strengthen the batting though I think Grant would be the better bowling option. Valente is a bit too similar to Sayers in style/pace/stature.

Moved from Adelaide Oval due to a boxing match...

Opie isn't too far away I reckon. Especially if Worrall and Mennie miss a few games.
