He only got 19 in his last innings, nothing to write home about, but it must be a good score for a Redbacks player if you think so highly of him.
He's made the 8th most runs in the Shield this season at an average of 35.5. That's more than Renshaw. He can clearly bat, just not in this format.

Averages 35 with the stick champo. Very good for a 7/8. Bowling has unfortunately regressed this season and he was only an honest toiler to begin with.

Yep he’s basically a batting A/R in the Shield. McAndrew and him both have a LOT of runs this year.

Harris racks up tons for fun in the Shield but looks like a spud at international level and in the one BBL innings he played for the Scorchers.
There has been plenty of gun FC cricketers who don't quite have the weapons or have too many flaws to make it at the top level. Harris and Bancroft are current examples of this.

It's similar to state league footy players who are stars at that level where they can get away with deficiencies, but they get found out when they play AFL.

James Rowe is a very recent example of this.

sorry but what's harris flaw? he played pretty good in that last few innings at test level, wasn't he 2nd highest run scorer or something? he has the game to be better than renshaw at test level no question. Renshaw is a walking wicket

His main flaw is that he doesn't defend well against decent bowling attacks. Sort of leaves his bat hanging there waiting to be edged. He could easily cart poor bowling attacks, but gets found out against the likes of Bumrah and Broad. Not to mention he's a liability in the field.

He made 76 on Boxing Day 2021, but from what I remember, a lot of shots were fine edges that went to the boundary when they could have easily been caught at slip. He got there, sure, but that's hardly a sustainable way of consistently making runs.

In the end, he has two 50s in 26 innings at an average of 25 which isn't good enough. Time to move on.

Yeah no he does not, Renshaw for all his doubters at least has a test ton and isn't a complete liability in the field. Harris is terrible against good bowling, no amount of runs at the Junction Oval will change this.

agree to disagree, one think i reckon you are spot on with is that harris time is done.

funny how people write Harris off yet he showed he can bat v a strong england team, yet Renshaw has failed v mult teams

Bingo, and when you have 3 options who are lets be real much as the same, how about we don't pick the bloke who not only costs us with the bat, but is likely to really cost us in the field. they went with the younger one from Renshaw/Bancroft as backup that's it. Hardly a howler and lets see how it goes in the future.

Harris failed against every team bar that one knock against India and boy jeez he nicked a lot in that innings. Renshaw at least showed on his first Indian tour AS AN OPENER he could play there, has a big test ton already, and whether you like it or not when Khwaja goes we need a first slipper, and Bancroft/Renshaw field there

hahaha are you a casual cricket fan? maybe go look at the bowling attack and who else toned up in the Renshaw game. since that time he has failed v 5 different teams, almost got dropped from queensland state team, NZ/india will smash that Renshaw pad on cool down.

if all you can quote is something someone did 7 years ago as proof, you have already lost the debate.

I don't think Renshaw is the answer either but that's who the selectors are likely to go with next, especially given he's been the back-up the last few tours and was 12th man again last week.

Renshaw is an opener he's not a middle order bat, and yes he should have been dropped a year ago, thankfully he's back to opening. Harris' technical flaws are worse, boundary maybe then nick off, and the bloke is diabolical in the field, he's terrible. So you have a bloke averaging 30 (at best) who can't field. Both Bancroft/Renshaw are first slippers. I have said it over the last month lets be real all Harris, Bancroft and Renshaw are similar both have shown very little signs to average more than 30. Renshaw is the youngest so you can understand why they have gone that way. The hope will be one of the younger top order bats (it might be a Teague Willie for instance, Henry Hunt, etc) actually smash the door down. Putting Smith up the top allows them some time.
