Ok struggling to keep up with messages coming in.

Picture I'm getting is L.Neale was happy to sit out contract despite wife Jules pushing for relocation due to baby on the way.

Somehow the story has blown up in the media and caught everyone by surprise including Neale himself.

Seems now an opportunity could be there however to make a trade during this period if Neale is willing and Fremantle can provide x2 first round picks.

Lions want certainty today, because they are about to throw the kitchen sink at L.Parker if Neale says he wants to leave.

Fremantle however want to retain a top 10 pick in this draft.

Jules has played everyone for fools 🤣

Surely Freo (if they want to) can swap Cerra for Neale (obviously not directly - but with a 3rd club involved). Maybe an extra pick in there, but it wouldn't be an extra 1st due to the age difference.

So Carlton's pick 6 for Cerra, which is sent to Brisbane for Neale. Might need a bit more work, but it doesn't seem that far off fair value. (and Freo keep their pick 8, so retain a top-10 pick).

6 + Lobb for Neale + 14? They'd still get Amiss or van Rooyen at 14, and keep pick 8.

"Lions CEO Greg Swann, GM of Football Danny Daly and Senior Coach Chris Fagan sat down with the Brownlow medallist following reports he was seeking to return to Western Australia.

Neale and his wife Jules are expecting their first child and he has confirmed the couple are weighing up where they would like to raise their family.

He did not request a trade but has asked for some time to have further discussions with his wife and family.

The Lions will not make any further comment at this stage and we request that Lachie and Jules’ privacy be respected."

From this info it seems pretty clear that it was leaked from Neale’s management to try and speed things along.

i.e I’m gonna leave when my contract is up anyway so may as well trade me now when I have more value

So is it either Freo come up with another 1st rounder on top of the one they will get for Cerra or they completely trade themselves out of the 1st round for him?

Both options quite juicy tbh.

Yeah i'm not sure next year's 1st and this year's first will cut it for Brisbane

Lobb could be the interesting piece in this, there was talk he was looking to leave so he could be used as a make weight in the deal.

Gee. Can you imagine Brissy trotting out a trio of unreliable beanpole potatoes - Lobb, Daniher and Hipwood

Big fella doubling down

He’s worked hard to build a reputation as a credible journalist, at least on the western side of the country so he’s risking a fair bit doubling down like this the way he has

Is Neale the hero that the Dockers need?

They may be better with the extra first rounder IMO.
The real question is this: is Neale likely to be a part of their next premiership?
When you look at it that way it's obvious that they should not give up too much to get him, because at 28 years old he is likely to miss their premiership window by ~ 200 years.
