simply put this game will be huge

"In addition to an epic single-player campaign, Resistance 2 offers a truly unprecedented eight-player, class-based online co-op campaign with a separate, parallel storyline and 60-player online competitive multiplayer." (IGN preview)

so in addition to the single player campaign there will be a seperate online co-op storyline so we're pretty much getting 2 for one here as well as 60 player online multiplayer.....which to the best of my knowledge is the greatest number for console based fps. (LLD might prove me wrong here.)

hopefully this sort of thing becomes the standard/norm for all fps from this point forward.

also i have to add i'm almost ashamed to say that i never initially bought resistance1 but i played through it co-op with my friend this weekend and it REALLY surprised me at how good it actually was.

BRING ON RESISTANCE 2!

i KNEW there had to be another thread on this game......but when i got 6 or 7 pages back i just couldn't be bothered searching anymore...(proof is bringing up an old UT3 thread :P) thinking this game would stay up the top since it very well could be the highest selling ps3 exclusive this year....though it will probably come second to mgs4

There's apparently NO loading screens in the whole game.
Yep, was confirmed by the lead developer, they are aiming for no loading screens anyway, obviously with the game still a few months away nothing is 100% in stone, but that would be one of the many great selling points.

Looking forward to it - the first one was top notch.

You played the first one HBK?
I played the first one for about the first 5 months I had my PS3, played it non stop, loved it, made heaps of Aussie mates from it too, thanks to the Aussie servers that stayed for those few months at the start, it started to dip once the worldwide servers were introduced.

sorry hbk but i'm gonna restart this one simply because it's in the games thread but there is now single player and multiplayer footage on gametrailers!

the multiplayer is clearly against bots on easy to show off mechanics but what really impresses me is the amount of action/players on screen with no slowdown

it's already looking pretty good but with a lil clean up it will be crazy!

I'm new to this series. What's it about basically? Would you have to play #1 to enjoy #2?

EDIT: PS3 only. I'll have to pass then.

The mods must be asleep, I hate that this board seems to be the least regulated, I updated my thread which was on the C,G and T board, but wasn't updated before the new Games board, and because Mods don't visit and moderate regularly enough mine wasn't moved or merged with this.

BTW you should check out video of Res 1 when it was in the stage Res 2 is in now, looked 100% different to what was the final product, Insomniac are very good at keeping things changing so as not to look to the same and keep people guessing, the game will probably look so much better than what is in the current vids right now.

yeh there is no doubt the game will be looking much different to what it is now...but in the third trailer down the page.....i literally got the AHHHHHHHHH ____ HURRY UP! feeling from when i'm playing from just watching!
that fast stuff always scares the shit out of me in games
in uncharted those fast spanish dudes scared the absolute bejesus out of me! hahaa

Multiplayer doesn't look that intense :(.

oh believe me my man....it will be.

one thing that is EXTREMELY dissapointing so far is the lack of OOMPH in the gun sounds...i mean the shotgun sounded like a freakon tap on the back....

i know it's way off release but i want these sounds to THUMP through my surround sound!

The sounds would just be basic right now, wont be any real need to be putting it in early as some would probably still be getting recorded, that stuff will all be put in late, it would just be the most basic of sounds right now.

Resistance 1 was cool, nothing ground breaking, but a good solid FPS.

Online plays very well, even with a full room.

But # 2 is shaping up very nicely. If they can pull off 60 player MP, that will be massive and 8 player co-op as well.

Definitely looking forward to this.

I just hope they alter the zoom in animation. # 1 had no zoom in animation, it was standard view, click zoom, zoomed in. No slide down the sights of the weapon which made you (well me anyway) lose sight of what was going on around and really gave me the sheets.

I still enjoy Resistance FOM to this day, great game. Not the best graphics or sound, but the gameplay and theme are awesome.

Online is where it is at, and although the Worldwide servers made it a bit harder to find great matches it is still the best online experience I have ever had, Somerset is the best map of all time!

i was watching Xplay a while back and in an episode previewing the big games of E3, they said that Resistance2 had one of the best ever multiplayers they had ever encountered.

News out that it might be handy to hold onto your previous Resistance save.

RESISTANCE 2: HOLD ON TO THOSE RESISTANCE SAVES
While I didn’t attend E3 – I was hanging out in Kotaku Tower with Luke working the night shift – I did get to see the presentation of Resistance 2 just like everyone else. But since I didn’t get to see the game in person, I had to make due by viewing screenshots and somewhat muddy-looking movies on my computer. At the time, I wasn’t too impressed with the game from a graphical standpoint. I mean, it looked great, but after sitting down on a nice couch in front of a big-ass TV, I can say with confidence that, yes, Resistance 2 does look amazing.

Insomiac’s James Stevenson gave me a run-through of the Resistance 2 demo from E3.

I wasn’t surprised when I first saw the leviathan trouncing its way through the flooded streets of Chicago like I was during E3. I knew he was coming. But I was able to see just how much detail is actually on the leviathan model itself and how much intricate detail was going on in the animations on its face. They’ll be focusing more on larger bosses this time around, Stevenson told me, so I expect to see many more “wow” moments like this.

I was told there would also be a lot more effects added to the final game, too. This will be most noticeable during the sequence where Nathan is running up the stairs in the building with the leviathan peering in at him. All the while the building will be on fire and smoke will be billowing about.

One section that still leaves me troubled is when Nathan is crossing the scaffolding between buildings. After seeing Mirror’s Edge and how careful you have to be crossing smaller platforms, it left me a bit disappointed you can blindly run through that with out any worry of plummeting to your death.

Not only do the enemies animate well (thanks in part due to them all being motion-captured), but they also travel in groups and will try to flank you. Luckily, the new Magnum in the game allows you to shoot your bullets into objects and detonate them like a remote bomb. This looks like it will be useful for slower enemies, but for larger, faster groups, I’d stick with the good ‘ol machine gun.

I asked if players should bother keep their Resistance 1 save file on their PS3 in the event they’ll receive a carry over bonus like in the Ratchet & Clank games. While James wouldn’t confirm anything, he said there might be something, such as a medal. So it sounds like you should hold off on deleting your old save for a little while longer just in case.
