Moppey will be fuming at this. He said he wanted Cripps, he outright demanded Van Rooyen. Not only did he not get Cripps or Van Rooyen, we can now establish Richmond will likely not take any further interstate players with go home factor attached with first round National Draft selections barring exceptional circumstances. The good news for Mopsy though is that second round and later picks are open slather. 😁

----------------

Insiders have disclosed since Francis Jackson assumed his role as a full time recruiter for the 2006 draft, he has carefully avoided at almost any cost using a first round pick on any player with go home factor attached. This seems to be confirmed by the fact 15 of the 16 Rd 1 National Draft selections taken during this period were used on players from Victoria, Tasmania and Northern Territory, with no “go home factor.” Evidence this policy only applies to Rd 1 ND picks can be found in the fact 9 of the 20 Rd 2 National Draft selections taken by Richmond over the same period were from “go home factor” states, WA, SA & QLD. The only player to conquer the Round 1 pick edict was a Western Australian, appropriately named Reece Conca, who certainly divided opinion amongst Tiger supporters in his time at the club. 😁

Sources close to Jackson divulged when the ace recruiter learned that Richmond’s first selection at that 2010 draft would be pick 6 after finishing second bottom he was incensed and decided to mock the AFL draft by taking a Western Australian with the club’s first round selection. He then took 8 other spuds as part of his protest in the National and Rookie Drafts before trolling the competition by taking future triple flag and AA 206 game player B Houli with his only selection in the Pre-Season Draft.

Richmond 1st round selections and state of origin from 2006….

2007 Trent Vic
2008 Tyronery Vic
2009 Dustin Vic
2010 Reece WA

It is well known that we like to use the first pick in the draft on players with surnames ending in N or S. From 2005 during Fine Eyes reign there has been 12 our of 17 players that were selected with this criteria
2005 JON
2007 Cotchin
2009 Martin
2011 B Ellis
2012 Vlastuin
2013 Lennon
2014 C Ellis (AKA Monika)
2016 Bolton
2017 Higgins
2018 RCD
2020 Ryan
2021 Gibcus

Of course Cripps and JVR fit this criteria, so the go home factor first round factor must have also kicked in.

Brandi Ellis should come back on minimum wage when his contract expires.

To be clear here, since 2006 no club in the AFL has taken as few picks in the first round of the National Draft with go home factor as Richmond. None. We only took Conca to make it look like we weren’t discriminating. Conca was a thinly veiled token “go home factor” selection in a heavily compromised draft, so it barely mattered anyway.

Moppey will go off his 3kz when he finds out this is official club policy. 😁

Heppel was training with us and was certain to be picked, but Casino had one shot too many that night and made a late change.

He swerved a massive bullet there. 😁

When you think about it, you would do anything to avoid drafting Heppell, even if it means drafting Reece Plumbing. 😎

Considering we still won flags, do we still need to dwell on draft misses? Time to let it all go.
