From AFL Match Centre:
"Melbourne came into tonight’s match as the hardest team to score against from turnover. Essendon dominated this area of the game tonight, generating eight more scoring shots from intercept possessions and outscoring the Demons by 33 points from this source."
I did notice at one stage our kicking efficiency was like 77% to their 44%. That’s what pressure does. Without looking at the stats how many times did you see our guys forcing them into an error.

Sooo many times. Someone else mentioned it, but the number of times we also had a player waiting to crumb the front of a marking contest as well was awesome. Reminded me of how St Kilda played us.

No shame losing to them either. That practice match loss to them seems a distant memory now. I thought we were they only ones to apply pressure back on them later on in that game but could not capitalise. 3 goal loss not so bad considering

I want to.play them again. I think we've improved since that game. /learnings.

I'm 26 years old and I reckon that's the best I've ever seen an Essendon team play in the wet.
Starting to be ready to be hurt again...
That is a key - the great Geelong team had guys like Stevie J and James Kelly handling a wet ball like it was a dry day. Our 2000 team had some skilful wet weather players that stood out. Was personally surprised how one touch and slick some guys were with the wet ball today, it made a difference in breaking the game open.

The difference a coach makes with the culture and standards they set is quite remarkable sometimes.

Same group of players bar a few were panned all of last year for the lack of pressure.

Rutten and Ratten at Saints were good guys and Essendon and Saints were criticised for the way they cut them...maybe the handling fair enough but can't argue with the decision right now. Both teams looking so much more defensively and structurally sound.

I shake my head at how many people put all the blame on the players. They deserve some yes, but the coach is the main person responsible.

Excellent game. Great execution in a very sustainable way. I’ve preferred two rucks and today they really showed their value.

Also, we were first to adjust to the weather. That has to be the first time in a very long time.

Heppell again was solid. Merrett is proving me wrong about him being captain, really showing the way. McGrath looks like a top pick again.

I know he's been experimented there before but I can still see Hind being a really effective forward.
Yeah, those 2 goals in 1 1/2 quarters. Definitely won't make it as a forward...

I'm not quite sure where he is suited best. Still like the idea of run and creativity off half back which we lost with Saad and Irish.

i think the snelling inclusion is the most important one. even in games we’ve won we’ve lacked tackling pressure & i think today he stood out not only because of that but just general pressure which allowed langers & drapes to have success
He's so scrappy (second, third, fourth efforts).

Wouldn't want to be a Melbourne player having dinner with Steven May at a restaurant tonight.
