Imbecilic to write off the season.
Bulldogs and Brisbane are the only form sides at the moment.
Melbourne, WC, Power, Cats all exposed.
Would bring in RCD for sure as a lateral sweeper, defensive side mid, and perhaps Miller.
Two players are definitely injured, Balta and Broad.

This attitude shits me to tears.

Kid is 22 years old & was a small body coming into the league.

he is likely a top 5 kick in our team & from what i've seen of his creative in-game handballing - he is in the conversation to be top 5 in that area too.
to me he is long term Edwards replacement.

Do we remember what Edwards look like when he was 22? he was so tiny his nickname was "titch", which literally means "small person, child". People really forget how maligned he was early on. We could see the talent, but so many people thought he would never be able to play senior footy, couldn't hold a tackle to save himself, and would get knocked off the ball with a strong breeze.

The below is a brief rundown of what Edwards early days looked like, at 22 years old his career changed because Dimma invested in him. By the next season, he had cemented a spot in our side. Its also worth remembering that this was in a REBUILDING team, not a 3 time flag winner, like Naish has been fighting for a spot in.....

2007 season 19 years old
Edwards was drafted by Richmond with the club's second pick and the 26th selection overall in the 2006 AFL National Draft.[4]

He made his AFL debut in round 4 of the 2007 season in a match against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.[7] Edwards' first career goal came during his fifth match, in Round 10 against Brisbane.[7] His first win came eight matches later, in round 19 against Collingwood.[7] At the conclusion of his debut season Edwards had played 16 matches, kicked 11 goals and held averages of 10.3 disposals and 2.1 per game.[7]

2008 season 20 years old
Edwards again missed out on round 1 selection in 2008 before playing his first match for the season in round 4.[7] He played eight straight matches before missing out for the club's Round 12 clash with Melbourne.[7] He kicked goals in six of those matches including two goals in rounds 5 and 7 and three goals in round 9 against Essendon.[7] For his performance in that match he received his first Brownlow Medal vote.[8] Edwards finished the season having again played 16 matches, but with one more goal and 20 more disposals than the previous year.[7]

2009 season 21 Years old
2009 began with Edwards in the club's best 22, where he stayed through the first three rounds of the season.[7] But a six disposal performance in round 3 saw him dropped to reserves level where he stayed until Round 7.[9] He did not get selected the following week however, and remained at reserves level until the midway point of the season.[7] But when coach Terry Wallace was sacked prior to Round 12, Edwards saw new opportunity under caretaker Jade Rawlings.[10] He was selected to play in Round 12 and kicked two goals to go with 17 disposals and six tackles in the club's win over West Coast at the Telstra Dome.[11] He did not miss a game for the rest of the season, recording an average of 13.6 disposals a game over the back half.[7]

2010 22 Years Old
Ahead of the 2010 season incoming coach Damien Hardwick assured Edwards that his development was a club priority, promising he would be selected in all 22 of the club's home and away matches that season.[5] He played in the club's first two matches of the season before playing his 50th career match in Round 3 against Sydney.[7] He recorded his first ever 20 disposal performance in that match.[12] In Round 10 he set a career high with 11 tackles against Port Adelaide[7] He broke his own disposal record on four occasions including a season-best 28 disposals in Richmond's Round 18 win over Adelaide.[13] As promised, Edwards finished the season having played in all 22 Richmond matches. He set then-career-best totals in all major statistical categories as well as in tackles and disposals per game.[7] For his break-out season Edwards placed sixth in the club's best and fairest count.[14]

2011 season[edit]
Having cemented a spot in the club's best 22 the year prior, Edwards played in each of the first eight matches of the 2011 season, including with a career best tally of nine marks in round 4 against Collingwood.[7][15] However, in Round 8, he injured his cheekbone in a centre-square collision at the opening bounce. He was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the match and missed a further two matches as a result of the injury.[16] When he returned in Round 12 he would again secure his place, playing in the final 12 matches of the season and finishing the season with 20 games and four goals.[7]

Naish NEEDS a chance to play if we want him to develop. From what i have seen of him in his senior and VFL games this year, he has made huge improvements in his body and no longer has that timid look to him. He needs 30-50 games in him now, asap
I was a glass half full on Naish until the Brisbane game. He looked good with the ball in his hands and against GWS his kicking to advantage set up several goals. The problem is he doesn't get the ball enough at AFL level to impact games enough.

When we have played hard contested teams he goes missing. In the Brisbane game, on several occasions he chose to hang out for the ball instead of cracking in for it. Too much an outside player to make it, IMO. Happy to be proven wrong.

They need to give him time. He is get 30 touches + several marks & a couple of goals a game in the VFL. He has the ability to get the ball, clearly.

Patrick has only had SEVEN games in the AFL. Edwards at the same age had 70.

to put it into context, this is what Edwards stats look like from 19-22. His first 50 games were extremely similar to what Naish is doing in his first 7. It was only after that do we see a massive jump in his numbers - from 10,11,12 to 19.

I will die on this hill with Naish & RCD - both should play out the remainder of this season - they need games ASAP & we wont know where both players really are until they play 50 games, but their upside is most definitely worth us giving them 50 games.

Short has been pretty crap. His early on shot on goal he stole of CCJ was awful IMO. Lacked a bit of understanding on his teammate, as i think CCJ generally is a good kick for goal, especially when his confidence is up. To snatch that one off him and then butcher it was a bad moment imo
It's so odd though because 40-50 on the run directly in front you'd back short in almost all the time , in fact you want him to have the running outside 50 shots , so him calling for it wasn't bad , maybe the ccj one he could of.just let go , but he still should of kicked it easy. It just feels like our whole team is off skills wise in general. Like when do we see balta drop so many marks ? Something just is off with us

Nothing like Shedda. Naish has a very low percentage of contested balls and clearances.

Sorry, but what have you seen so far this year to give you so much confidence? All I have seen is as soon as teams put pressure on us we crumble. Dogs game I can only think of as anything Richmond like. Even the other wins it was a struggle against poorer teams. Make no mistake no coming back this season and if we don't trade right we could be in for some hard times. Again what the players have given us this last four years was dreamlike, And then you wake up, like the Hawks Brisb Geelong dynasties of modern times it just ends.
