Review Round 1, 2023: Sydney Swans v Box Hill Hawks, 26 March 2023, 10.05am AEDT @ Tramway Oval

The VFL season for 2023 gets underway with a trip up to Sydney to play the Swans as the curtain-raiser to the AFL game later in the day, albeit the game will be played at Tramway Oval in Moore Park rather than at the SCG.

The Hawks would love to have a win away from home to open the season, although the Swans will undoubtedly be tough to beat on their home deck. It will be the first time that new Box Hill coach Zane Littlejohn has taken charge of the Hawks in a game worth four points, so there will no doubt be some nerves from both the players and the coaching staff as the season gets underway.

The game will be broadcast live on the AFL website at www.afl.com.au, and through the AFL app.

won't be playing for Box Hill after all, and Parsons, Cavarra and De Bolfo (a CHB) are out for the year injured. I think Trudgeon hurt his ankle last week. So Callum Brown the only mature age recruit. No Beasley or Mascitti, so VERY light on for experienced talls.

For a VFL game the skills from both sides are good. An even performance from the Hawks: they are getting more of the ball 79 disposals but the swans are moving it quickly (60 disposals) and look dangerous when they enter the fwd 50.
