Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

Stevens will play. Perrie is not ready for CHF.

Damn I knew there was a tall player missing! Tanks for that reminder Carn Crows but I still think Perrie will play.

B: Johncock Rutten Bassett
HB: Mattner Stevens McLeod
C: Thompson Reilly Knights
HF: Edwards Perrie Porplyzia
F: Burton Welsh Bock
R: Hudson Goodwin Shirley

I: Griffin, Torney, Douglas, van Berlo

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

We will need a tall backline against Essendon NN coz they will have Lloyd, Lucas and possibly Johns. (EDIT: I see you had just forgotten Stevens. Looks better with him in. :))

I'll have a crack anyway...

FB: Johncock - Rutten - Bassett
HB: Mattner - Stevens - McLeod
C: van Berlo - Thompson - Douglas
HF: Edwards - Bock - Burton
FF: Bode - Welsh - Porplyzia
R: Hudson - Goodwin - Shirley

INT: Griffin - Knights - Torney - Reilly

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

IMO there are 18 definites barring injury.

Bassett
Bock
Burton
Edwards
Goodwin
Griffin
Hudson
Johncock
Mattner
McLeod
Reilly
Rutten
Shirley
Stevens
Thompson
Torney
van Berlo
Welsh

That only leaves 4 spots.

Perrie is very underdone and hasn't eaned it but he will probably get one of them

That leaves

Bode
Doughty
Knights
Douglas
Porplyzia

fighting for the last 4 spots. IMO two of these must miss out.

If it were purely based on form it would definitely be Bode and Doughty to miss as IMO they have been a bit below par. Doughty and Porplyzia have had slightly interrupted trial form, but still very sound, while Douglas and Knights have been outstanding.

My 22 would be the same as Nikki's with Bode and Doughty to miss.

However, I think the selectors will hold firm with experience and Douglas and Porplyzia will be the ones to miss.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

For mine:

FB: Basset Rutten Johncock
HB: Mcleod Stevens Mattner
C: Reilly Goodwin Van Berlo
HF: Burton Perrie Thompson
FF: Bock Welsh Bode
1R: Hudson Shirley Edwards
INT: Griffin Knights Torney Douglas

EMG: Doughty Tippet Porplyzia

Rutten Vs. Lloyd
Basset Vs. Johns
Stevens Vs. Lucas
Van Berlo Vs. Hird
Fletcher Vs. Bock
Michael Vs. Perrie

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

FWIW I think Perrie will play, but not CHF. As a strong bod, I think they will play him deep in attack to contest the bombed in ball. This being the case Bock for CHF. Bock may be too mobile for Fletcher, which could force Essendon to use both Fletcher & Michael on the last line, which may not be ideal for them.

I don't know Doughty's form in the pre-season, but generally he is consistent and reliable. I would have him in my team.

I am dredding it, but I think Porplyzia and either Dougals or Knights will miss out.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

I know that Van Berlo is dearly loved/ and feared by all, BUT has he really done so much that he should be considered so highly.

Doughty on the other hand I believe has played very well in 2006 and deserves his spot.

Blokes like Van Berlo are the future, no doubt, but he really hasn't done anything much so far to write home about.

OK, so now I get hit by lightning.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

Bassett Rutten Johncock
McLeod Stevens Torney
Doughty Reilly Thompson
Burton Bock Edwards
F Perrie Welsh Bode
R Hudson Goodwin Shirley
IC – Griffin – Van Berlo – Knights - Mattner
Emeg – Douglas Porplyzia Massie

Hard to chose between Knights Mattner Douglas and Porplyzia

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

While I can't be bothered doing my own team does anyone think it possible that VB could miss this weekend? Knights and Douglas have possibly outperformed him in the practise matches and maybe he's a chance to miss.
Also I don't think Doulgas in the SANFL is an option, he's just too good to be left there any longer. Within a few games I think he could very much improve the AFC.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

Am curious if people are posting the team they think will play R1, or the team they WANT to play...

I posted the team I want to play, hence unlikely scenarios:
--------------------------------------------------------
Burton/Mattner on the wings
Bock at CHB
No Stevens
All 4 of our best youngsters in (Porps, Douglas, Knights, VB)

My thinking is that although my forward line looks pretty make-shift, short and chock-full of midfielders, the back 6 and centre/wings look awesome. It reminds me of early 2006 when our forward line was makeshift but we still kicked heaps of goals, due to the team structures working, and the midfield/defence kicking arse... Thoughts?

PS: IMO, VB will not miss either in my preferred team OR the real team, he's a hard running, uber-courageous player that everyone loves.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

It seems like there is some real constructive conversation about your line up which is good. I thought id help out and give a likely Essendon lineup.

FF: Johns Lloyd Monfries
HF: Hird Lucas Davey
C: Lovett Stanton Winderlich
HB: McPhee Fletcher Lovett-Murray
FB: Welsh Michael McVeigh

R: Hille, Watson, M.Johnson

Int: Ryder, Bradley, Heffernan, Dyson

Em: Slattery, Jetta, Bolton

Somebody i think said that we may be stretched defensively but i dont think this will be the case as Bradley can play CHB and Ryder has played CHB all preseason and done very well. Mcphee can play on the tall running forwards also. Many forget aswell that Lovett-Murray is 192cm and can hurt offensively aswell from HB. While im not sure what the end result will be im confident it will be a close game.

Hope the team helps..

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

Was Alwyn Davey selected as a rookie and upgraded or was he straight on your full list? I had the feeling he would start off in your As anyway which is why i Dream Teamed him. He has done pretty well for somebody who lacks size.

2006 national draft pick 36

In the last 9 H&A games that VB played last year, he averaged 15.66 possessions per game. That is good for a 20 year old midfielder. He was probably our best player against Port in Round 21 when he had 17 possessions, 6 marks and 2 goals. Without having stats at my disposal I think he was also pretty good against Fremantle in the Qualifying Final. Yes we go over the top about him but he's got great potential and there is absolutely no doubt he deserves to be in our best 22.

Yes he was taken at 36 from south adelaide..He has torn everything up in the preseason..Has kicked two or three goals each game and assisted in others..His defensive pressure and work ethic is a feature of his game. A very competitve personality..His tackling seems to be the equal of your Mattner but Davey is quicker. The r1 nab cup game against the blues shows this. will be a great pick up. He will come on immediately at afl level..he is 22 already so thats to be expected.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

Hahaha @ Davey's tackling as good as Mattners. I have seen Alwyn play 2 seasons for South and while he is a good tackler, Mattner is probably the best in the AFL...and Alwyn is nowhere near there yet.

Mattner has played how many games? Trust me Davey has a burning desire to make it..He has said he doesnt want to be a damien Cupido..This drives him. If you dont wantto rate him thats cool..I think you will find that they will rival each other..Its like saying Jobe rivals Simons clearences and pill extraction ability..If your picking a side today then ytou pick Simon. But that doesnt mean that Jobe Watson isnt a great ball winner now because he is..and he will be simons equal and will rival him come sunday.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

Gets! never said he doesn't rate him, he just said Mattner is a better tackler than Davey. I've seen Alwyn play quite a few games both against North and as a neutral and he is a very good player, he is quick, puts on defensive pressure no matter where the ball is, and is capable of kicking goals.

You have come out and said Davey is as good as Mattner in the tackling department despite the fact he has never played an AFL game, while Marty is a tackling guru.

Bigfooty is full of biased people though, every player on their team is better than players on other teams, their kids are the best, etc etc. Rubbish. I can not wait to smash Essendon on Sunday.

Re: Stuff Drugs - Crows R1 team

Ahh dude I do rate Davey, being a South fan I have seen him play a lot more than you no doubt.

He is and will never be as good a tackler as Mattner. End of story.

Im just telling things how i see them..Im heavilly involved with my club and dont know truck loads about yours. Im just giving you guys an essendon perspective. I think you have a very good team but while it may seem biased the comments i make are designed for you to have a better knowledge of what your facing. If we get beaten then fine so laong as we put up a good show and fight. we are not at the stage where we should beat top four or six sides week in week out. Where as id imagine if Adelaide isnt top four then your supporters will be cutting sick. So i wantto win for sure but other factors are important too for a young team..Adelaide people will be saying Winderlich? Watson? even one of your own in Monfries? Who are they? I want them to show you who and how good they are.

As for Davey..Id say yeah Mattner has the edge in tackling but Davey is quicker and is and will continue to make rapid ground untill he is equal in the tackling department too..
