To what end? We are the oldest team in the league with a positively shyte midfield and we keep rolling out the same midfield just to try and make the 8? What's the point?

Surely with our age profile it's win now or move on. Nowhere is this clearer than the midfield. It's like Simmo or the club want us to become a North Melbourne type team... Battling it out every year but no threat

100% agreed. I'm just happy we showed guts this week.

We are an average side and we're moving in the wrong direction. But I'll take effort over no effort.

He's been pretty much a liability for a while now but gets passes due to his in close work which simply holds up the play

Or better said he is a momentum killer.

Agree about the liability bit ......... for three years.

Absolute rubbish, we were playing against there seconds. We were exactly where we are, a soft group of overpriced footballers who don't produce.

Nah. That was much better than last week.

If you accepted we are a middle-of-the-road side why do you get emotional about us losing a nothing game against a better side?

Because we are not a nothing side, we are a lazy soft side. We played today against their worst possible side and were weak.
The sooner you accept the facts that we are a bunch of players who can perform on only their own terms the better.
We have talent but we don't have heart, thats the facts and nothing can hide it or change it.

Their worst possible side - that's just rubbish. Who's in their best 22 that wasn't out there? Lobb, Scully, Griffen, Deledio, Smith - can't think of any others so stop wailing about a seconds side it wasn't. We were nearly though not quite as hobbled as them, but let's not overplay the hand.

Just watched Simmo post-match conference, that coach is in denial he sees the sunshine coming from the backside of his players o_O

BS how many would they replace 5?
Please name them, they had most of their best team, Cameron, Patton, Greene, Davis, the fullback, Williams, Wilson, Mumford, Ward, Kelly, Whitfield, Shaw - this idea that they had ten of their best out is just nonsense, a media beat -up, they had a strong although not full strength team out there same as us
  1. Tom Scully
  2. Stephen Coniglio
  3. Rory Lobb
  4. Devon Smith
  5. Ryan Griffen
  6. Stevie Johnson
  7. Adam Kennedy
  8. Nick Haynes
  9. Matt Buntine
  10. Brett Deledio
  11. Jacob Hopper
The last two are arguable b22 but Hopper had played six matches in a row before being injured in Rnd 7. Deledio would be b22 if fit.

Maybe you haven't heard much of Kennedy, Haynes or Buntine but they've played 192 AFL matches between them so they are hardly fringe.

Why do our blokes continue to corral and stand off the contest? There were 2 goals they kicked direct from stoppages in the forward 50 in the last where we had at least 5 around the ball but no-one put their head over it or where just flat footed when they dished the ball out. Its frustrating as * and just unacceptable at this level. Why are our blokes incapable of getting their head over the ball?

Because we have a team of soft utensils

There aren't 10 players today that would be dropped to fit them in

Truth is that the only thing currently preventing this season from being a foregone conclusion is the depth of the Giants injury list

Depth is scary- there's not a single side in the competition that's capable of absorbing that injury list and still being not only competitive but 7-2

Whatever you want to hide it with!!

You forgot Mzungu who was elevated off the rookie list and played for them.

Maybe a bit of a stretch, but the point isn't that it's just 11 from best 22, they actually only had 26 fit players to choose from in total.

Someone like DeBoer was recruited simply as depth and experience, it took this many injuries to get a few games and he's been reasonable.

Coniglio, Deledio, Scully, Devon Smith, Stevie J, Lobb, Griffen, Haynes, Hopper & Adam Kennedy are their 10 of best 22-25 that are out - a couple of them would be on the fringes. Those currently in the team replacing them are Taranto, De Boer, Himmelberg, Mohr, Reid, Corr, Perryman & Lloyd. Nowhere near farfetched at all.

Edit - Someone above me has already done it but the point remains.

Whatever you want to hide it with!!
What do you think I'm hiding it with? Blunt, bare faced truth is what I'm after. Fact is - it was a weakened team, but not a seconds team. Ten of their best twelve players and most structurally important such as Mumford, Davis, Cameron, Patton, Ward, Kelly, Wilson, Williams, Greene and Shaw were out there so let's not bleat about losing to a no name nothing team.

Call it as you like but a side with our talent and any pride or heart would of put them away.
But out club is more focused on being Good Samaritan than being great footballers.
We tried hard yay!!!
Who gives a s**t how hard they think they tried.

My question is - could we have beaten that team - they are a pretty slick outfit
Answer - we could possibly have won, we weren't too far off, we did give it a good shot, ultimately I don't think the team we put on the park today was good enough, seven changes is a lot, we were were completely smashed in the clearances, either they had a better system or were better players or both, that was the result
I can't honestly say "we should have won" I think we were beaten by a better team, losing Kennedy at the beginning of the final term was a body blow, that really took the steam out of our sails, were looking good up to that point

Think you are being a bit over emotional here. None of us like having a loss, particularly at home, but even though mistakes were made and they couldn't win a clearance, I think our midfield combination is our biggest weakness and that's not going to be fixed overnight.
