interested following a lot of criticism of sheridan leading into last week. I though he responded very well this weekend having been subbed on fairly early and he really offered a lot.

Like many others I see the next game or two as a likely time for Sylvia's inclusion. But who goes out? Is it still Sheridan after a very good game?

I would also think that if clancee is right he's a decent option for Johnson, if Ross feels that Ibbo, Silv and Dawson (who will likely play full forward this week) aren't enough

I'm a glass half full kinda guy. If we are going to lose our best two defenders then now is probably the run of games we can cover them (no disrespect to our next 4-6 opposition teams). This is a serious opportunity for Silvagni to reignite his career and will give us an option should injuries occur at the pointy end of season. It's all been said before how injury/confidence/fitness has meant when Silvagni has come in the last few years that lack of continuity has shown match day. So I am excited at him getting a run at it.

It's going to be a tough selection night with Mora, Crozier, Sylvia, Clancee and Grey all viable inclusions. I'll leave selections to the match committee but for the same reason I hope Silvagni gets some continuity, I'd also like Sheridan (can't bring myself to call him by his first name)to get another week.

Agree.

The truth is Silvagni is good enough to play starting 22 in many Victorian clubs (his home state) and there couldn't be a better time to prove himself. How many other teams could boast having a key defender like Silvagni on stand-by? My hope is that once Macca starts releasing hit ballads full-time Silvagni will be a focal point of defensive unit.

Sheridan's currently around the same level that Sutcliffe was last year. Subcliffe last year was a game-changer when we needed him in the last half (kicked a goal in nearly every fourth quarter when he was sub) but didn't have the tank to play the full eighty minutes of match time. Sheridan's around that at the moment; bursting in patches contributing on the score board but not the hardened concreter that he may yet become.

He needs time; just like Sutcliffe and Neale and we'll be calling him the most improved player in 2015 pretty soon.

I agree. Does he lose his spot this week though?

I reckon Clancee would definitely come if not for the fact he faded so badly on the weekend, Ross has been big on the guys coming in being at an acceptable fitness level and it's unlikely he meets it yet.
Valid. It sounded like he was keen to play two talls and Ibbo in the Jonno role this week. With Vickery missing (think I read that in this thread) i'd be confident with that set-up

I don't think he's got anything to prove, he's already played 2 very good games this year and was unlucky to come out of the side. Further to that, he is fully healthy at the moment which he has not been in the previous 2 seasons (issue with his leg, which took a long time to spot).

Yep,nothing to prove for SNOS.I reckon we'll see the best of what he's got to offer over the next month.

Anyone against the possibilty the killer combo of Kepler and Alex to come in and replace Luke and MJ?
I was going to suggest it was like-for-like, but then I realised...
#theresonlyone
Then Mora won't come in :(

Talk of c Pearce coming back this week may be slightly off the mark.

I saw him fall over onto his bung shoulder in last qtr of the peel game and you could see the pain shoot through his body the minute he hit the ground. He was writhing around on his knees for about 10 sec then gingerly jogged off holding his limp arm.

He later came back on but I don't think he's right if he copped a stinger like that on an already suspect shoulder....

what did Lyon say about morabito?
He was non-committal. Mentioned in his post match that Morabito had played a very good game but was quick to add that so did Crozier and Sylvia, essentially that there are a few pressing a claim.
Was even more vague on Monday night interview but did say that we are getting closer to the time when he will play.

This our last game at the MCG before the finals so it is absolutely crucial we play well.

Out: McPharlin, Johnson (Both Injured)
In: Silvagni and

Options A - Syliva - Has played 100+ games at the MCG, has been playing well the last 2 weeks as a small forward and could provide a few tips to our team on hour to kick accurately at the G. Add on that he has been a bit home sick, I think playing a game in front of his friends would help this. This is who I would like to see make side

Option B - Morabito - has been building all year, and is getting closer to being ready to play AFL. Would be a great sub and would have a big impact if he came on with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Question marks on if he can play an entire game, but with 30 possessions last week he can't be too far away. Being 192cm's (give or take) adds the bonus that he could play back on the 3rd tall if needed, I think he will play next week.

Option C - Crozier - 27 possessions and 2 goals is a great performance, but I don't think we need another wingmen\half forward and he has struggled to get on the score board when playing AFL.

Others to be considered are Grey and Clancee, I think the above two players have earned a crack more than Grey and Clancee vanished after the first quarter rules him out in my opinion.

Left Field (Won't happen, we very rarely make too many changes)- With a 6 day break we rest one of our depth players and include both Sylvia and Morabito in the side.

In reality I would be happy with either option A, B or C and I look forward to have 27+ players ready come finals time.

Here is the link to the video from the RTB press conference this morning. As has been posted earlier, Walters is two weeks ahead of schedule..

Lyon all but confirmed key defender Alex Silvagni would play after he was unlucky to be squeezed out two weeks ago against the Western Bulldogs.

"He is really obvious. You'd think he's basically going to play," Lyon said.

There are a number of others who could possibly come into the side. Lyon mentioned Hayden Crozier, Colin Sylvia, Clancee Pearce, Matt Taberner, and Anthony Morabito as legitimate chances.

Lyon said that Morabito was right in the frame but he would not make any guarantees and would not be swayed by emotion.

"It's a very serious discussion," Lyon said.

"First and foremost, our obligation is to win games of football and pick the best possible team. If romance were to purely come into it, he would play this week.

"But our objective is the four points. So is Anthony going to help us, or not? Is he the best chance, and is he ready? We're going to work through all of that."

Morabito was dominant for Peel Thunder on the weekend, and the performance impressed Lyon.

“I thought he jumped a level on the weekend,” Lyon said.

“It was as well as I've seen Anthony play this year, and clearly since I've been here.

“It's really exciting.”

Freo will name its team for Saturday’s game at 4.25pm WST on Thursday, and if Morabito is selected, Lyon said it would be reward for hard work.

“We've been banging in extra work to him, and actually flattening him out a bit for the WAFL,” he said.

“He's gaining it inch by inch, and that's the way it's done.

“I'm sure if you ask Anthony he'll go 'I'm ready, and I want to play this week'. But he's like the others, he goes through a selection process based on our objective of winning the game.”

yon said Silvagni had great character and was one of the most popular players at the club.

He added the defender had improved markedly since he started as senior coach in late 2011.

“When I walked through the door he was building his body,” he said.

“He couldn’t do full training. Now he fully trains, he’s built his body, and there’s some real method.

“He was a desperate defender, but he’s worked on developing a method and some skills and he’s really improved. He stood up in a final for us at the MCG and I’ve got full confidence in Alex.”

Lyon also refuted suggestions Silvagni had a chance to make a name for himself in the next month with McPharlin and Johnson sidelined.

Despite what Ross says, I think Morabito could be a great inclusion for emotional reasons. He could fire the boys up knowing what he has come through to get back.

Not to be rude, but why is that an issue this week?

And Ross doesn't operate on emotion, hes stated that various times.
