Autopsy Round 14, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Carlton

Not too sure what to make of the game, absolute garbage start but ended up out scoring the blues after QT.

Positives
McCarthy absolutely terrific foot skills sublime. Was very surprised to see him on kickouts but I am not complaining at all. Harley has had a great block of footy last 6-8 weeks looks to have a real appetite for it. Billiams great reward for effort with multiple goals. Thought dewar was ok obviously finding the footy but kicking is still a worry and defending. Graham and Baker still providing the goods while Hall and Bo Allan had some nice moments hope we can persist with them.

Negatives
As mentioned above the start to the game piss poor. Looked disinterest and lacklustre all across the board. Sandy brock definitely lowered his colours today but he’ll come on soon. Maybe it means bazzo gets a crack in 2 weeks? Lot of senior players very poor - Kelly, hunt, Duggan although he slowly found his way into it. Oscar injury really sucks. Fingers crossed nothing bad, early communications from the club is possibly a calf, big sigh of relief if it is the case. Maybe it paves the way for Shanahan to debut? Still think Hutchinson could have a spell in the wafl only the 7 touches but playing hard role looks to be on the far wing most of the time.

Bye has come at a good time, can rest bodies and know the eagles can’t lose a game, although you never know with the bye.

Saw a tweet from a channel 9 reporter that the club was looking at his calf. I haven’t actually seen a replay of it they refused to show it on fox

Trying to find a positive side to Allen and Waterman both being out... gives a few young guys a chance to prove themselves. I know there's a lot of love for Archer Reid, but my feeling is he's got plenty of years to prove himself. Bailey on the other hand, is supposed to be a forward but has mostly played ruck. He's 25, and got 70+ games under his belt. It's now or never... give him an extended run as a the first-choice forward and see how he goes.

Been really completive for long periods in games, just cough up to many goals in a 15 to 20 minute period at some stage

Dude was playing ammos a few years ago, no? Insane that he has been able to either have that much natural talent but not be identified in any system or be able to build skills like that outside of an AFL program.

He’s been poor having to be the #1 ruck against blokes significantly bigger.

His effort has never been up for debate from anyone with a clue.

Also if you’re having a crack after a good game, you just love to have a whinge.

I was just trying to explain to you why people don't like him because he's been average for us over his career. This year and all throughout his career he's had opportunities at playing his preferred position and failed it's happened multiple times this year where he's been dropped for a younger player. Yeah people are salty at him and deservedly so and people get salty when we lose football matches people are human. Also nobody cares about effort it's a results based industry you can put in 110% and still be not good enough. That all being said if Bailey can continue this form for the rest of the season i'll be singing his praises.

I watched his interview and he said he was a bit of a late bloomer way to skinny in his draft year and found it hard to put on weight to compete with mature players.

Clay Hall did really well coming on in the second half, should be nailed on for a long run as a starter in the seniors.

Big positive for me out of that game is that our best players were our youngsters.
Ginby, Reid, Hewett, Allen, McCarthy (24 but debutant) and later Dewar were our best along with our much maligned draftees in Bakes and Graham. Hall was also good when he came on, went to Cripps in the 3rd quarter and nullified him
Hopefully this demonstrates to Mini that we can now move on from our old tried and tired players like Hunt and Kelly and even Cripps (who Ive always liked) and pump games into the likes of these guys plus Gross and Grego and we wont be worse off.
Those senior players are no longer protecting and helping our young guys, they are holding them back.

• Young players stepping up; Reid, Dewar, Ginbey, Hewett, McCarthy all with good games.
• McCarthy with an outstanding debut.
• Graham and Baker still setting the tone like we wanted. If our other seniors played with their heart we'd be banking a few more wins.
• HEdwards continues on an upwards trajectory.
• McQualter telling it like it is during his qtr time interview. Was refreshing to hear him being honest and he cares (compared to robot Simmo).
• Not rolling over and continuing the fight.
• BWilliams has worked really hard on his marking and goal-kicking and it shows.
• Bo Allan looks a likely type. Plays with intensity. I'd just prefer he doesn't play so deep back. Maybe on the wing for Hunt?

• Allen's injury, made doubly worse by some ****wits on here.
• Some lacklustre games from a few seniors; Hunt has been hanging by a thread for most of the season, Cripps is a bit rough since coming back from injury, Duggan being Duggan (wasn't terrible but still), f*ck knows which Kelly is going to show up week to week.
• Simmo on the commentary hasn't annoyed me he has like some other posters so far this season, but tonight he really irked me. It kinda felt like he lacked any self-awareness. And his comment about us still not having an accumulator mid annoyed me greatly.
