Weird to say but I felt quite positive after watching that game. The young crop are all just coming along quite nicely overall. Hewitt

Negs- Flynn is quite competitive in marking contests but can’t ruck for shit.
Mate. Watch the opposing ruckman and take his body. You run in looking at the ball and the oppo waits till the strategic moment and shoves you aside.
Spot on. De Koning did this with regularity. It wasn’t like it was a big shove from some gorilla but SDK just timed it perfectly. And Flynn didn’t adjust.

Edit: TDK not SDK

MCCARTHY was terrific used it so well

Hewitt I love his impact thought he was great but got home watched the replay and he was against
Carlton's Hewitt who had a enormous game as well

So think there great learnings there for Elijah his burst is great but running smarter and longer needs work
At some throws up around ground looked cooked before ball was thrown up I think that was why his disposal efficiency
was so poor at 53%
So maybe he needs to be used like a Dane Swan ten minutes on then of to the bench

Hall looked really good when he came on please give him 3 weeks in the middle

Brockman clearance work is better than Liam's but wasnt given as much around the ball time today

Liam was limping from a contest if the first quarter and coming into the side under a cloud thank god he has the break
to get better

Bo Allan is better mid than defender, but like we are making play down back first

Would really like Ginbey to be given another few games as a inside mid he more confident now
and has a much better tank than Hough Harley and Hewitt, just think he would help our contested numbers go up

With Bo Allan playing defence think we could release him again that would let Hough go back to defence as well

Our half foward Kelly and Cripps

Kelly didnt do a lot but put on real good pressure his opponents didnt run of him as much as the others did
Cripps was okay but got run of badly this game especially in the first half was rusty i guess but dont think he should get offered another contract now
Brockman was good as a forward but did get run of a lot as well but at point kick in was good defensively
No, just no.

The MP review. Interesting that Carlton's game plan is to start at blistering pace for the 1st Qtr, to get a healthy lead, then slow the game down in the latter quarters.
Also a bit of an indictment on our other players that McCarthy is the first player this season to get over 30 touches in a game, let alone for his first game in the team.

A positive is we lost by 71 points last time and 34 points this time, missing some key players.(as they were). So there is definitely improvement, although similar to the Roos game it can be hard to fathom regarding the skills level?

A lot of Flynn's game makes sense if you accept the only reason he's on an afl list is he's 200cm and 100kg, and tries hard.

'Athletic ability' means many different things in football, whether it's pace, core strength, agility, hand eye coordination etc etc but it doesn't really matter how you define it in his case because he is clearly below AFL standard in all those departments.

I think the reason he's got as far as he has on AFL lists is he absolutely looks like a footballer, but put him in any sort of footballing contest with a decent AFL standard ruckman and he loses about as regularly as an average fit looking bloke off the street would lose running beep tests against Chris Judd.

I suspect going into the bye to reset this will be a defining game. Mini put it on the line - we no longer accept or dish up this garbage. That was two months ago - not now and never again. The team buckled down and while there were errors for kids and fatigue there was emerging talent, fight and spirit. Sure we have holes to fill but the course is set.

+ Career high contested posessions (17), contested marks (2), marks (6) and rebound 50's (7) for Harls. Should've finished the game with 2 goals as well. Solid blue collar effort from him.

+ McCarthy, enough said.

+ Hewett still building nicely. His left foot snap on the run was a peach.

+ Bailey proved he never should've been "managed" out of the side for Archer Reid in the first place. Credit to him, he's improved a great deal this year. Still think we should trade him but i'm fairly happy with his 2025.

+ I get Curnow died, but Ginbey was doing a good job on him up until that point.

+ Baker continues his solid season along with Graham.

+ Hall coming on and collecting 9 disposals, 5 contested in minimal game time was good. Never should've been sub and i hope this has earnt him a starting spot in the side vs Collingwood.

+ Bo showed glimpses of what he can do when he's getting more than 5 mins game time. As others have said, he needs to be further up and at the contest rather than deep in defense. Midfield please.

:toilet:
- Hutchinson 7 disposals, Hunt 2 touches, and Kelly 10 touches, 0 tackles should are all long overdue for a WAFL stint.

- Allens injury is bad no matter how you want to look at it. Just deflating.

- Flynn just being Flynn. Soundly beaten in the hitouts. His direct opponent was a contender for BOG yet again alongside Carlton Hewett.

- Not sure what the plan is going forward for Maric. Talented player but they need to look at his role in the offseason.

Bye rounds do have different impacts to different clubs. For some reasons, some senior players don't play well before and after mid season byes. Yesterday the Eagles were the same with loose tackles, poor contests, just did not want body contacts.
I believe the AFL should get rid of the mid season byes but instead introduce mandatory days off for players. For example, no players are allowed to play 10 or more consecutive games. They must have a week off after a certain games.

I wonder if we can turn JWill into our version of Cripps. A big bodied midfielder.
Cripps was canned for a while as being too slow but he worked hard on his body shape and fitness. Jack has the size,IQ and talent base to be better than Cripps.
Yes I know; a long way away; but I think it’s an obvious move.

Or just have one mid season bue for every club on the same weekend.
