FB: Brown Talia Lever
HB: Seed Hartigan Laird
C: Sloane Greenwood Smith
HF: Cameron Walker Lynch
FF: Betts Jenkins McGovern
Foll: Jacobs M Crouch B Crouch

Int: Cheney, Douglas, Atkins, Milera

In: Seedsman, Cheney, McGovern
Out: Beech, Kelly, Otten

There will be loud voices at the selection table clamoring for Dmac's return this week off a 26 disposal game in the SANFL. Resign yourselves to it.

However, in a parallel universe where people at our club have a capacity to learn from past mistakes, I would make him earn it for at least another few months.

On to less depressing business, how good is Greenwood? Refreshingly for an Adelaide mid he kicks more than handballs and went at 95%.

Its time to get back to a winning, balanced structure. We have allowed ourselves to become too slow and too tall. Incrementally, through a series of well-intentioned bouts of weakness we have accumulated a number of players who don't belong at the level (Beech, Kelly) or outright damage our structure (Otten).

Beech, Kelly and Otten all make way. These are tough calls. Three good blokes. Not based on the last game, rather on the good of the team as a whole going forward. Good triers, but all depth if we are honest. We have three AFL quality players waiting to come back that considerably improve our dynamic in terms of speed, pressure and hardness in Seedsman, McGovern and Cheney.

Sloane and Smith to the wings. No point continuing to let them be tagged out of games in their present positions, its just foolish. Sloane has a better chance of burning off his man on the freedom of a wing. Seedsman can take Smith's HBF and Smith can deliver I50. Smith was better this week playing mostly up the wing

Douglas, Atkins and Milera on notice. Douglas just has so little hurt factor and Knight should be eyeing his spot.

Atkins' kicking lately has been atrocious. 57% DE and 12 turnovers is piss poor. Most of his meters gained come straight back with interest. If Dmac does come in I hope it is for Atkins, like for like, so we don't have two flakey spuds burning the ball that can't impact a contest to save themselves.

Milera needs to find it more but might be suffering from the general collapse of our midfield since teams ramped up the pressure; supply to our outside receivers has been poor. At least he doesn't burn the ball, going at 86%, but needs to kick it more and use his main weapon more than last week.

I can see that being the changes the only one who may come in is Thommo, rewarding form where Cheney could see another week or two to get form, I know Gov hasnt any form but thats more of a punt on his behalf after his disgraceful performance on the weekend

Didnt he do that against teh hawks last time we beat them
If he did, why isn't he still in the team?

13 and 3 this year. Sorry, I was out of the country for this. It's been years since I saw us beat the Hawks

Or we could drop Douglas for Seedsman and have both Smith and Seedsman distributing off half back; a very effective strategy from 2016.

Shoehorning a player into half back because they're no good in the middle is straight out of the Brent Reilly playbook. How about we play guys on half back who are specialists in that role, traded in and developed to play there

This.

Douglas has been s**t for a year and a half now.

We've tried him in a variety of different roles, and he's battled at all of them.

Time to move on - not manufacture another position to try and keep him in the team.

If we need a HBF, then play Wigg - we actually drafted him as one.

I've been a fan of Dougie, but it just feels like he has absolutely zero hurt factor left in him anymore. Combine that with the Crouches and Sloane being tagged and it's left our midfield looking very impotent.

Dougie has had a couple of good games, but on the whole he's been pretty ordinary. I was hoping that more midfield time would return him to something resembling his better form. He'd be pretty close to the edge right now, but reckon he's still got a couple of games to turn it around.

I will actually understand the selectors thought process if we see David Mackay back this week. I'll disagree with their choice, but I'll understand the rationale behind it. Bringing Thommo back in makes absolutely no sense whatsoever given where our side is falling down at present. The last type we need is a slow and unaccountable midfielder who can't spread offensively or defensively. If an insider was out due to injury or suspension or just in horrific form, then bringing Thommo back would make sense. Again, I'd disagree with the choice, I'd give Wigg or Poholke a taste first, but I'd understand the reasoning behind the decision.
The definition of madness selecting Mackay. Time for Seedsman or one of the youngsters to come in.

His name is Richard Douglas and he helps our games played average...he's nowhere near the edge!

I'd bring in Wigg for him also.

I'll be singing from Marty's hymn sheet if we don't see Doedee soon. First round pick that had a very good SANFL season last year. Had a limited preseason, but if he's not strongly in contention and then playing ahead of failed midfielders or wingmen in about 3 weeks time, then I'm going to wonder WTF went on with that selection.

He hasn't been s**t. He's just found that comfortable AFC middle ground and is continuing to simmer - not performing well enough to help the team win any matches, not performing badly enough to be dropped. Players can stay at this level for years.

Which is a shame because in his best years he was the one who provided run through the middle of the ground, had a good mixture of inside/outside possessions that a lot of our mids lack, and once he stopped bombing we found he could actually kick a good low pass into the forward line. I think he's near the top of cmndstab's Tex goal assists lists.

We desperately need Douglas playing well. The Good Douglas. Not the rushed bombs, falling over, quiet when the heat is on Dud Douglas.

Milera in doubt with a knee and so I Brown, so hello Mackay. We all know it's going to happen so might as well factor him in as an in.

In: Gov, Cheney, Mackay, Knight
Out: Brown (inj), Milera (inj), Otten and Beech

We bring in a quicker more mobile forward.
We bring in Mackay for Milera
Knight for Beech, more speed and run
Cheney in for Brown

Sounds like Seed ran out of puff in the last half on Saturday, might need another game before returning. I'd go with Gooch, but we've heard that he didn't train in the defensive running patterns of Mackay, so can't see him returning. Again though, I'm not saying I'd agree with it, but I'd at least understand what they were hoping to do by selecting him. They'd be on the right path, just in the wrong vehicle. Selecting Thommo is heading in the entirely opposite direction to which they need to travel.

F off

Pyke clearly said post game that he didn't notice Hawthorn's spare defenders. So the only solution to our forward line woes is obviously to add more marking power because we clearly are just failing to grab marks in contested situations. Has zero to do with being outnumbered.

Out: Betts, Cameron, Milera (injured), Brown (injured), Atkins
In: McGovern, O'Brien, Dear, Cheney, Mackay

Betts rested
Cameron and Atkins dropped on form

B Cheney - Talia - Lever
HB Laird - Hartigan - Smith
C Mackay - Greenwood - Lynch
HF Otten - Jenkins - Beech
F Dear - Walker - McGovern
R Jacobs - M. Crouch - Sloane

I Douglas - B. Crouch - Kelly - O'Brien

Naturally we'll only play four forwards at any one time, those being Otten, McGovern, Walker and Dear. This leaves Beech and Jenkins to run in off the back of the square. O'Brien to rotate off the bench, but just in case we need an extra tall up there, he's capable of playing forward as a contested marker.

If Cheney, Talia, Hartigan, Lever, Laird and Smith are our starting back 6, I hope Carlton have a tall, slow forward 6

OMF##KINGGOD WHAT, he said he didnt notice the Hawks spare defenders..........please tell me you are joking and he really didn't say this.

Have we got a collective bunch of blind goons sitting in the box.......FMD!!

He did actually say that.

If Brown and Milera are injured; what I'd like to see
In: Cheney, Menzel, McGovern, Knight, Seedsman
Out: Brown (injured), Milera (injured), Otten, Beech, Douglas

What will most likely happen:
In: Thommo, Mackay
Out: Brown (injured), Milera (injured)
(Otten to the backlines to replace Brown)
