Bit hard for Harley every time he touches the ball the umps whistle is in there mouths

he gets umpired differently then the rest of the comp
The club needs to complain about it publicly then

Was looking at stats and saw that Hough was going at 100% DE. Considering his role in the middle, 27 disposals, and a goal - that is bloody elite. Can't wait to see what he becomes with an actual preseason training as a mid.

Just on that, Shanahan field kicking looked as good as his goal kicking which is a huge plus.

  • Great game from our boys.
  • Baker and Graham continue to set the standard.
  • Maric and McCarthy both using the ball fantastically on the rebound, I feel the like an elite user like McCarthy gives Maric a bit of freedom.
  • HEdwards very good, has hit a purple patch over the past month.
  • Ginbey continues to play like a reliable veteran.
  • Hough showing he belongs as a midfielder, probably his best game through the middle.
  • Shanahan better for the hit-out he deserved, hopefully can build from there. Elite skills our kicks inside 50 need to be better. Likewise Hall, building and serviceable.
  • Bo Allan is a player. Get the same feeling from him as I did Hough's first several games.
  • Flynn not completely terrible.

-

  • Huddo was insufferable. Absolutely pathetic. Expected to see him copping a Magpie Bukkake after they sung the song in the huddle post game.
  • That non-HTB call against Collingwood to only immediately call it against Duggan really leaves a bad taste in the mouth after what was a terrific games from the boys.
totally

I really enjoyed that game there was so much to like. In our 3 games against the top 3 on the ladder this season we've managed to match and even have periods of dominance against all of them. The wheels are really turning now, we have some really good young talent, and a game plan that's coming together.

+ves

  • I'm more and more sold on Hough's move to the midfield. He's been inconsistent, but that's to be expected. Tonight showed what he can become, his best game yet. Interestingly the AFL app is showing him at 100% disposal efficiency!! that's insane from 27 touches as a mid.
  • We know now what Hewy and Harley bring, and we saw glimpses of it again tonight. so excited to watch that duo grow together.
  • Bakes just oozes leadership, and his toughness at the ball and willingness to take the game on really inspires the team. Everything he brings far outweighs his sometimes shocking disposal. I'd be very surprised if he isn't sole Captain next season.
  • The backline is looking pretty good. Hedwards continues to get better, he is looking so much more confident in himself. I now believe he will be our number 1 Key Def of the future, and a very solid one at that.
  • The run off halfback that McCarthy is providing is exactly what this team needs. Can't remember the last time I was this impressed with a players first 2 games. He's a lock down there for the next 5 or 6 years.
  • Big tick for Shanahan, looks like he could be a superstar FF of the future.
  • Frustrating game from J.Williams, but can't be too hard on him given he's still a kid himself and had to take on the role of #1 key forward. Did a lot right tonight and will continue to grow.
  • I thought there was a really good balance tonight, not alot of passengers.

Not going to bother with the negatives, most of them are just stock standard things that you expect from a young team.

Fun Fact - Pendlebury and Sidebottom have more games experience between them than 17 of our 23 from tonight combined. Sums up how good that effort was!

+ My smug satisfaction after I told my mates at the pub pregame “watch Harley slightly touch Daicos and give away a 50”.

How embarrassing must it be to be an AFL umpire and just gargle on the scrote of that dude week after week.
yup you picked it and so did everyone else....and thats the issue its blatantly obvious how he gets umpired compared to Reid

I had a few glasses of red and really enjoyed the game.
We came out from the bye looking more composed and connected.
It's all positive from me, screw the negatives, looks like we've turned a corner and believe!! Might snatch a couple of wins up ahead?
Some great play from young ones.
Just need to add a few more pieces to the puzzle.

Yep.
Maybe it's a bit harsh but he's there now to step up and take responsibility in the absence of waterman and Allen.

He missed set shots he should be kicking and that error before 3 quarter time was just deflating.
1 goal 4 or something? Kick those and the games much tighter with a possible win.
Best sign here is that game (Essendon maybe?) where he had a shot from 50 to keep the game alive under a minute, and absolutely tapped it.

He will respond.

Positives
We are improving and shanahan
One of better hutch games

Negative.
Hewett went missing after half time. He really is up and down.
Brock is a bit weak spoiling. Needs to get stronger.

Duggan mixed feelings. Dump kicks are getting a bit old. Reckon he would go another level if he got a wafl game.

Duggan cops a lot of shit and started the game so bad but thought he was very influential after that. Tough with the defensive side and was involved a lot with our surges and transition forward

Mccarthy has played 2 games and for me i get the ease of mind when he gets the ball as did when Bunga/Gov/shep and etc did back

Baker has been massive since the start of the year. I wasn’t a huge fan of his acquisition but thats all gone now. Absolute star and it seems like he is having a personal best year.

Hedwarss was massive and he’s slowly gaining confidence in his game and after putting the intercept marking away for spoils he’s now going back to not only attempting them but also taking them.

Another one I have to give credit to is Maric. I’m quite harsh on him but today was his best game in a very long time. Was exact game you want from him. Got his hands around the footy a bit on a wing and used the ball really dangerously. Thats the standard he has to hit weekly.

I feel like McCarthys inclusion will help Maric out big time. I feel like we think because he was drafted in the MSD that he’s a lot older than he is. He’s still a kid who was moved to a position & role that he hasn’t really played and was being asked to do a lot while working out his game. He’s trying to work on his defensive side while being the main distributor out of defence. Tough ask & feel like now McCarthy can take some of that responsibility off him. Good step forward for him tonight.

Unpopular opinion: That 50 Harley gave away in D50 to Naicos was clear as day. He just kept running another 4m after he should've pulled up.

I'm on the 'He's unfairly umpired' train as much as anyone but that 50 was plain as day in real time.

Just like they should've paid it against Collingwood for the exact same thing vs North last year at Marvel...

Agreed, it was dumb. Clearly knows where the mark is as he's right behind him.

Only thing I can think is he maybe thought it would not be called 15 initially.

But he did it earlier in the year as well from memory.

Positive:
  • Jobe :clapping:. Good debut, showed alot of composure and class.
  • Hall has been good every opportunity he has been given this year. Feel like he's been made to earn every game. Hopefully he stays in the team a while longer. His disposal looks far less an issue at AFL level to me.
  • Credit to Harry who has been in great form, another great game.
  • McCarthy backed up his debut with another good game. Team high for metres gains, again.
  • We actually were able to stop their momentum when they kicked 4 in a row and kicked 3 of our own. 8 weeks ago that would be a 8-9 goal run.
  • Liam Baker. Enough said.
Negatives:
  • Another last quarter fade out, didn't kick a goal in the last and we lost the 2nd half by 37 points
  • Jack Williams had a good start getting the first goal, and then a very poor game. The floater out of defence was a flattener, and then he missed an absolute sitter and Collingwood go end to end from kick in. 17 point turnaround.
  • Duggan was bad early, and while he did have some pretty good moments, I feel like Duggan getting 27 disposals is just not good for the team.

Just finished watching, stoked with that game.

🌈

+ HoneyBadger35 whipping boy Hall put in a shift. WAFL form carried over, but it was his uncontested ball which was the big win, showed he could get it outside the contest. 22D, 4T and 3 clearances from only 10 cba's is solid.

+ Jobe is undeniably a class player, nice moment watching him dob it from 50m on an angle post high. Has now kicked more AFL goals from 1 game than A.Reid has at any level in almost 12 weeks, hehe.

+ Baker is a king. Just an absolute vacuum whenever the ball is on the deck, how can you not love him? He still can't kick but everything else he does makes up for it, heart and soul. Hope he wins our B&F.

+ Good Segway into Graham who I hope gets the runner up in the B&F. Not perfect but has but shows up each week like we need him to and has put in another full shift.

+ Hedwards was enormous. Potentially the best game I've seen him play. For all the carry on about Darcy, Harry was the best defender on the ground by a country mile. Glad we've got him.

+ Hough is out to prove me wrong about him being a midfielder. Exquisite game tonight, can't knock anything he did or any area he didn't meet expectations.

+ McCarthy was awesome again. Uncovering blokes like him who instantly make out team better is why I'd like us to keep turning our list over and getting rid of the deadwood that's been average for too long.

+ Timothy Kelly contributing is a big tick. Best game I've seen him play for a while.

+ Brockman was good, despite fading in/out of the game. Jilliams could've had a huge night as well but was surprisingly frustrating to watch.

+ Ginbey keeping Elliot quiet is a massive effort, especially considering he ran off him so much and impacted so many aerial contests.

🚽

- Duggan's first quarter was comically bad, but he lifted and did some very important things for the remainder of the game. Arguably could/should be in the positives.

- Went too late on the sub yet again, not that Hunt was much chop anyway. The selection of Hunt as sub and giving Bo and Clay a full game each was also a big tick.

Not that many negatives to be honest, hard to knock a team that tried hard all game against the ladder leaders and made their fans proud 👏🏽 💙 💛
