Pretty comfortable with those changes.

Next week will be interesting when Ablett and Wodjak come back (and Chappy 2 weeks later).

Interesting competition between Prismall, Varcoe, Gamble and Taylor.

I think it will be Gamble too. Chapman and Ablett's inclusion adds as many or more goals than Gamble will contribute. He's awesome but will get more of a chance next year hopefully.

I agree also, but potentially for a different reason.

Wojak coming back as a running small backman/wingman means that Kelly is likely to play forward, which squeezes one of the forwards out. Unfortunately Gamble will be the one most likely to miss.

As much as everyone on this board gets upset about Prismall not getting games (justifiably so), Gamble not being in our best 22 is the bigger travesty. This guy could be anything. This is the price of having an awesome team I guess.

agreed.
He's now my favorite player in the team

Gamble I reckon

If Lonergan puts in another game like the one against the Hawks he'll be the one to miss. I know he's more of a KPP player than Gamble but if you are not performing you can't expect to hold your position. I know he had a couple of reasonable games but his last couple have been quiet and a third would spell the end in my view. Yes it will leave us shorter up forward but it would be a good opportunity to test the flexibility of our players - Taylor, Milburn, Rooke or Johnno could all take a key forward position.

So, Gaz for Pris, Chappy for Lonergan, and Wojcinski for Varcoe or a week in the VFL.

I'm with ya there. Vegas just adds that extra X-Factor up forward, just in case SJ doesn't quite have enough!

Anyway, no surprises about the changes. Melbourne are gonna be in all sorts of trouble the week after.

So Rooke keeps his his spot eh...he'll need to find form soon because as much as i love him he has been totally out of sorts.

no chance been playing different roles, doing team things, he will not be dropped as the team lacks muscle and grunt without him
he provides cover for gazza

Love Maxy's work in the forward line too - I liken it to a wrecking ball swinging around terrorising opposition backmen and midfielders.
He's not a bad shot for goal either.
Max is crucial for the team setup - every good team needs a battering ram and Max is our man.

i agree, johnson often plays a high up center half forward like rob murphy anyway, hes also quite good at taking the odd contested mark and i love the few times gamble split the pack to create the loose ball last week as well.

Meh. Taken the easy way out in dropping DJ but o well was probably always going to happen. Hunt would want to play better over the next few weeks.

I like having Gamble in the side. He's been our leading goalkicker the past two weeks, and Lonergan has looked tired. Perhaps its time for Lonners to have a rest, and give Gamble the chance to really step up. If he doesn't, then Lonners will be rested and ready to go for finals.

Rooke needs to stay in. One of our most important players. Has never been one of those who has silky skills, and will often stuff things up, but the upside is so worth it. His strength at the contest is the best in our side (I'd say Selwood is just as hard, but not quite as 'heavy', so less damaging). He also is a good set shot for goal. I feel pretty confident when Max takes a mark inside 50, and he's slotted them through when under pressure (e.g. Prelim final 07, then last week against Hawks).

It's amazing how many people, Geelong fans included, miss all the little things Max Rooke does.

There is a reason why he's adored by the playing group, and it's because he works his arse off to make it easier for everyone else to get the footy.

he reminds a bit of the role that Paul Dear used to fill for Hawthorn. Under rated until he won a Norm Smith!

Agreed. But, if he is not in form people have the right to question whether he should be in the team. Especially considering the calibre of blokes who are set to miss if the best 22 is available.

Max is in the (somewhat fortunate) position of being a truly unique player in our side. He can play on the other team's best midfielder, as well as picking up guys like Goodes. He also has a manic aggression that is pretty rare. He is a bit like Wojak in that there is no real ready made replacement for him, which means when he is fit he is almost an automatic selection even when he is average form.
