Last week people were calling for Murphy and Head to be axed.
How about this week we ask for Head and Browne to get the chop.
Browne is a turnover specialist!

That's the problem though, you can't really knwo who they are going to drop, they are as likely to drop Hill and Suban as Head and Browne, I'd wager Browne plays at least 10 games this year, if not more.

It makes me suicidal.

Uuuuuuuuuugly
The dumb Essendon Bai**tch that spat her dentures in my face. (see other thread)
1. Scott Thornton (though he was belted in the head off the ball in the first quarter - still no excuse)
2. Josh Head
3. Andrew Browne

Missing/Still on Daylight Savings Time
1. Elvis
2. MJ
3. Ryan Crowley
4. Pavlich
5. Grover
6. Hill

Ibbo doesn't really quite fall into any of the groupings. I will be bemused, maybe even a little perplexed, if Broughton, Hinkley and Drum don't come back in.

IP - love this idea of Malpaso's extra vote categories, might be something to try every now and then during the rest of the season?? Duds, Spuds and Cruds, as well as Gunyunguns and POTY?? Or is it just the vindictive cynic in me?

Also, maybe we could add a special category for 'selection committee decision of the year' and 'gameplan of the year'. Though, at the moment neither of those awards would be given out for this year...

How can you say Tarrant was good & Mundy bad? Mundy laid some good tackles, won some clearances, sent the ball inside 50, kicked a goal. Tarrant had a couple of assists but missed a set shot and his passing to Pav was terrible. Tarrant was ok but Mundy was better.
And Grover was awesome, we would have been slaughtered without him.

Don't get that Mundy was bad, Would have well and truely got smacked without him. When Mundy had the ball today things happened. His use of the ball is second to none. I think he was bog by a considerable margin today.

OK, so you guys don't agree with my rating of Mundy. Fair enough. Please note - I didn't say he was ugly, just bad - as needs to play better, not be dropped.

I agree that when he had the ball in our forward half of the ground, and he had time, things happened. But that isn't enough from someone who is one of our experienced midfield players. Lok at who he was playing on - every one of his opponents racked up effective possies, especially in the second and third quarters.

I've based my rating on:
  • the number of tackles he laid that were broken;
  • his pattern of defensive play, which largely involved running towards the ball carrier, rather than staying with his man in play;
  • his failure to man up at throw-ups and throw-ins [note - this may be because we were trying to play some kind of zone at stoppages, but that's no excuse IMHO, especially when the ball up is in the opposition forward 50];
  • his kicking across the ground instead of forward in the second and third quarters; and
  • his inability to take advantage of tap-downs from Sandi - again, this is Sandi's fault too, but it is a shared responsibility IMHO.
I appreciate that many of these may be the result of where Harvs played him, and what Mundy was asked to do in the zone. But he and Duffield have to do more, regardless of the lame tactics the coaches suggest.

And, for those who say I'm picking on Mundy based on some pre-judgement, please feel free to search the boards and find one instance where I've had a go at him before.

I really, really like his play usually, I was stoked when we re-signed him, and I think he is a key to the next four years for us. But he didn't do enough today, especially opposed to the youngsters he was facing.

If you don't agree, go ahead and hate me. Feel free to post your own 'bad', 'ugly' and 'missing' ratings too. I find hard to be critical of our players, but after today and last week surely I'm allowed to have a view?

Some people expect Mundy to play like superman, I didn't see him miss many tackles and as for his defensive play, I fail to see what is wrong with going after the ball carrier.. someone has to put pressure on him, why shouldn't he? He slaughtered his opponents at stoppages, so I dont know where you get that info from. The main stoppage winners were the opponents of Crowley and Hasleby.

If you can't kick forward then it is best to kick it sideways rather than waste it like he did once.

If you notice, he didn't play around the ruck much today, he spent a lot of time across the wing and HF line trying to take Fletcher out the play. I fail to see what you saw, and I can't understand this constant bashing of him. The guy plays a good game, 200 times as good as Head and Duffield and Browne and everyone still thinks he is shit. Its staggering, we must be the only club that bashes its good players.

Because I listed him as 4th under "bad" (noting that made in my top ten Freo players for the game) - not ugly, and not missing - I'm bashing him??? OK, sorry, everybody played great today. Mundy gets brownlow votes and Harvs gets coach of the year.

In Bridesmaids world, Mundy always gets votes.
Never mind he squibbed 2 shots at goal he should've taken as a leader, or any of that other important stuff

In the votes thread he gave Mundy 5 votes, Mundy was not our best playertoday, says it all.

Wow, He passed them off to people in better positions. How dare he be such an unselfish person. He could always do a pavlich and get nothing out of them by attempting a pathetic shot. I never said he deserved the brownlow votes, stop slurring me over and over again. All I said was that he wasn't bad, he was very good for us and our best player on the ground.

And? How was he not our best player? There were probably another two players on the ground who could have been better players on ground and thats it. People on this forum are so ****ing blinkered and prejudice towards players from this club its not funny. Mundy could take a brownlow and this forum would still bash him. I'm not the only one to notice this, there was a pathetic amount of bashing on him last year, even with people wanting us to trade him... when clearly he is one of our best players disposal wise. Yes, lets get rid of our best disposal by foot and replace him with another Josh Head. Great idea.

Dont know why I ****ing bother, honestly... Richmond fans are more sensible.

Now you're bordering on hysterical, he was good, but not our best, I thought Hasleby was easily better, you put Mundy on some kind of ridiculous pedestal, and accuse us of being blinkered!

I thought Mundy was our best player.

Watched the game with a Sydney supporter who thought he was as well.

I don't know what to think after this.

Because last week was just R1, we could hold onto the hope that it was just an aberration, that the Dogs are a good side, and we were still tinkering with our zoney game plan. However R2 reinforces that we are just a very ordinary team.

Nevertheless, I was actually encouraged more by today's game than last week's. And that's because we moved Pav, Grover, McPharlin back to their proper positions. Taz's form is encouraging, Hasleby is back (praise the lords!) and we seemed to have maybe abandoned this zone crap and are trying to at least play OUR brand of footy.

But then again, I've seen today's game a hundred times. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. The opposition comed out of the blocks quickly establishing a 4 or 5 goal lead in no time. Freo then play catch up footy, but never really get close enough to put any pressure on. ATEOTD we lose the game by the same 4 or 5 goal margin that existed at quarter time.

We lament our missed chances, we shake our heads at the dodgy umpiring, and we think of how much better it'll be when player X gets over his injury.

As has been mentioned in other threads - it looks like we've gone back in time. Same old same old Freo.:( The last ten years seem like a waste of bloody time.
