Let's not underestimate StKilda....Ross has turned them right around and they've been in the 8 all season....they are good and have a lot to play for.

I don't like it when we get talked up all week. This time it's how we haven't lost at the Gabba blah, blah. going to be tough for the Saints etc..

I hope the boys don't get too comfortable and complacent at home and blow it....we need to win...we HAVE to win.

(not sure I'll be able to watch the game for a couple of reasons but I will watch the scores)

Yeah agreed they may not have won any interstate games this season but the losing margins have been very close. Hopefully our boys don't take them lightly

Tbh I don't watch Ross the Boss coached teams. Sorry friend.
So this is the thing. Go back and look at enough of my posts and you will see I have been death riding Ross Lyon for basically as long as I've been on BigFooty.

But in the last month, they've changed. They started with 9 goals in a quarter (and 9 goals in succession) against Hawthorn. And for anyone whose knee jerk reaction is "well it was against Hawthorn", I welcome you to review Round 13 sans the rose coloured glasses and assorted excuses.

They followed up with 90+ against Richmond, and the only reason they "only" scored 88 against Geelong is because their kicking for goal was a little below par. I have found myself watching them in the last month or so (essentially on the pretence of waiting for another game to start) and thinking "they're actually entertaining 😱".

Their game has come a long way just since we last played them in Round 15, and if we simply plan for more of the same, well we'll be in for a shock. They've added an attacking element on top of their already sturdy defence and are now far more well rounded.

This is more than a banana peel or "danger" game. This is absolutely a 100% Port-Adelaide-Hawthorn-Gold-Coast-bathwater-areas game. If we fail to prepare adequately, like we failed to for those 3 matches, we will fail on Saturday.

The prevailing "wisdom" in here is that "oh we've learnt from the Gold Coast game now so we know we have to bring the right level of intensity and effort right from the first bounce now. We'll be right."

Aren't these exactly the same learnings we thought came out of the Hawthorn game? How long did they last? A month? Tops? Same with the Port game... "I don't think you'll see us play like that again this year... For our group that was pretty out of character". Well it ain't, and it hasn't been. What has been in character for us this season is putting in an absolute shocker every time we've somehow Bradbury'd our way into a decent position. As a result I'm very uneasy about this game and the fact that so few of us seem that way is only exacerbating this.

The way St Kilda are currently playing, both with and without the ball, deserves the utmost respect, and if our club pays them the respect we paid Port, Hawthorn and the Gold Coast, we'll get exactly the same result.

On the field this will look like getting murdered on the spread, King giving Andrews a bath (when Payne should be on him), our key forwards getting outmarked repeatedly and our smalls basically vanishing. All of which we've seen in just the last month.

St Kilda are paying $4.70 tonight, which is incredible for the 6th placed team in good form. Pinning the ears back.

Possibly he would be (Gunners) be more valuable as a coach?
Yes. Yes. Yes. Ball Movement Specialist. I'll keep saying it till I'm blue in the face. Our inside 50 entries have been transformed completely since he started his "training block".

Let him bow out a champion of the game at the end of this season, pay him his salary he's contracted for next season, but as an assistant coach.

Some good points here. Based on watching the Footscray, Carlton, Hawthorn, St.Kilda Melbourne and Collingwood games live, I think that the current forward set up is far superior to the “Three Talls” set up. With Gunston, Daniher and Hipwood all presenting as targets there is not enough space for Charlie Cameron, who needs space to operate in and to a lesser extent Lincoln McCarthy. Additionally, if Gunston is on a lead that is honoured and he doesn’t mark it, it really is ‘goodnight Irene’ because he is so poor at contested footy on the deck.

The current Hipwood, Daniher and Cameron line up very much reminds me of the Quinlan, Osborne, Conlan structure that Fitzroy used to such great success. Brisbane’s forward line worked beautifully against Collingwood and Fagan shouldn’t change a winning formula. We looked DANGEROUS and Collingwood were rattled. This last point is important because I believe the current forward set up is harder to defend against, which will be borne out in coming weeks.
You're right 3KZ is Football. More and more this season we have seen teams reduce the number of tall forwards they have. The Dogs and Melbourne in particular have struggled with 3 talls inside 50, and I recall Gold Coast even tried 4 at the start of the season (King, Casboult, Lukosius and Chol) with little positive effect.

The speed of the game is sending the 3rd tall forward the same direction as ruckmen: soon to be obsolete.

Do 3rd tall defenders have a reason to be worried? Might be a chance to drop Lester and bring in some more pace

Fortunately we are ahead in the most important stat - GOALS! :)
Yes, that is the most important stat.
The number of times the ball goes between the goal posts not touching anyone or anything.
Always exceptions though like the recent Crows game or just bad kicking.

It's so sad watching highlights of games from earlier in the year and seeing him do several things first year mids shouldn't be able to do

Will be massive to get him back

Back, and way better.

With his attitude and focus, it will be 12 month full time development clinic. After a bit too regain confidence, that development work will shine through.

kind of fitting that once Levi makes his debut he would hopefully be back to his form from earlier this year

Must be a pretty good crowd expected for this one, I have 5 free guest passes left over that I was trying to redeem and I checked in a dozen or so sections on the top level and there were only single seats available and no more than 3-4 in each section, a few sections had no seats available at all.

If anyone can, Will could be back much earlier. My bold prediction, will play 2s by round 8.

The research is very clear - less than NINE months means reinjury. They play at the edges of that time, but they won't risk him.

edit - sheesh. My texts read great to me. I just read what I think I wrote, and not what I actually wrote before I post.

Max King is out. Was that expected?

“The Lions have opted to recall veteran midfielder Jarryd Lyons to replace Lincoln McCarthy, who has injured his calf.”

I tipped this! Endorsed by The Over 50’s Clique. Fagan has started to make some strong and highly appropriate selection calls. We might invite him to the Clique.

With Lyons in I wonder if we're managing the load of Neale and Dunkley

Surely Kai the sub and one of the slower midfielders a candidate to get subbed

3KZ is Football will be stoked. If Matho was in this would be his best 22
