What does a concussion test entail exactly? And how does one fail it?

It's against an established standard, what you would be expected to know in normal circumstances. It can be tricky to administer. With the hipsters at the Weagles, for instance, asking someone to count to 10 or what day of the week it is would be taking too much for granted.

Excellent point! Love DeBoer's aggressiveness, but he does have a tendency to get pinged quite bit for "too high." Interesting how our tackling machine, Chris Mayne, doesn't seem to give away many frees.
De Boer throw himself straight at the player, and gives away a lot of frees for pushing them in the back. Mayne seems to throw himself past them when he's coming from behind and turns them around on the way down so he doesn't land in their backs. The only ways to legally tackle them from behind is either to pull them straight down, or to turn them around.

To be fair - he had a sloppy tackling game yesterday, but until that he was topping our tackle count and was not really looking too bad in the FA column. He's a super hard body; he's fast; he can get to lots of contests and puts lots of pressure on both the guy trying to get the ball out and / or the ball carrier on the outside; he blocks and creates space and he is as tough and hard as they come. It's all the stuff we don't really see that he's good at, and no doubt what RTB loves. It's those passes that can't hit a target from 35m, and the snaps that barely go 25m and the slow decision making that holds up the play that frustrates us. I guess RTB thinks that what he brings on the pro side of the table outweighs what his detractions are on the con side. And he probably knows better than most of us I would think...

Yeah there is a touch of busting packs and Rohan Jones-ing about the way he's playing

Yep. What you just explained about Mayne's tackling technique is what I tell my fellow Americans just starting to learn footy — unlike gridiron, Aussie footballers don't lead with their heads in tackling and that the point of footy tackling isn't driving an opponent into the ground, but preventing one from disposing the ball.

Not any more it's not.

Tackling the hips allows free arms and an easy clearance

Yes it is. You'll find trying to wrap a player up including their arms will result in far more slipped (and high) tackles as opposed to going for the core as you're not necessarily always trying to grab them holding the ball but also forcing them to create a turnover. Anything above and beyond is the players own doing and nous.

I'd be surprised if AFL clubs even target tackling specifically at training.

Why are there so many posters on this board with the memories of a goldfish?

Each week one or two players are targeted on the basis of a few moments of play. This week even the stupidest posters have to give credit to Suban. Next week it will be the Sutcliffe or de Boer haters that get egg on their faces.

We are playing the best football in our history. How about enjoying that?
Playing the best football in our history is all about striving for continual improvement. We can enjoy current performances but if we're not also casting a critical eye over them we won't stay ahead of the pack.

Having a scapegoat that is punished on here no matter how he plays is not being critical. Its just being dishonest.

Do you see that happening? Can you highlight a critical comment that is unjustified?

Don't get your knickers so twisted mate, might want to tone down on calling people that disagree with you stupid as well. This isn't Dockerland.

Out: My Dad
In: My wife and 6 week old boy...

It's not ideal but I'll give great effort on Saturday night and try enjoy myself anyway. One week at a time.

Edit: ^^^ Hahaha at the Dockerland call.

Scapegoat is just a term people throw out when a player is criticised frequently even when it's justified. Suban had a good game, great. Has he had them consistently? No. Thats his problem. Especially when hes keeping out Mzungu, an objectively much better player.

There are no favourites here, even Barlow wasn't escaping criticism earlier this season.

Nah only some get the boot put into them.

Suban is using both his feet now, so I'm not surprised he is also looking quicker.

With that he slides above a 75% fit Mzungu, consistently like that and he will stay ahead.

Speed and long ball use to give the illusion of speed are more important to our slow midfield.

Dan Pearce comes to mind:rolleyes:
Why would he? The criticism of his inaccurate kicking and tendency to go missing in crucial games was justified.

Nah only some get the boot put into them.

So who on our list escapes criticism? Sandilands was heavily criticised for his tap work a few years ago. Mundy is often a topic about his consistency. Not even Pav is immune.

Some get the boot in more often than others because they carry more weaknesses.

I think you mean subjectively - not that I disagree.
