Round 7: Changes Vs Adelaide Crows

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

the dogs have one of the best midfields in the comp, english also had his best game of the season if not career.

adelaide do have a good midfield but sloane is prone to a tag, matt crouch is a bit of a seagull with brad being the better. ROB did look good against the saints but was practically up against no one, lobb should be able to run him ragged and effect the ground game a lot better.

if blakely is fit to go then bring him in, if not then no need to panic imo, we should be doing well against the crows mids

I'm sorry but anyone who states Blakely shouldn't come in clearly wasn't at the game.

Our defensive structure was excellent, our outside mids were gut-running all night and our Forwards were slightly off.

The only reason the Doggies got close (aside from their yellow mates) is because of their phenomenal clearance work.

Walters is brilliant with a touch of space, and Mundy and Fyfe are better with the first handball received. Brayshaw and Conca don't have the grunt to wrestle the ball out.

Quite simply, we need Blakely in. Lobb and Taberner battle hard, but we desperately need Darcy to reclaim his exceptional form and get back in the side. Not just in the ruck but his contested marking along the ground, because when we get found out I can guarantee you that's what we'll do, and we will need a safer pair of hands when that occurs.

In: Blakely
Out: Brayshaw/Colyer/Conca

Lobb can barely take a mark getting defended by a ruckman. He will get schooled by actual defenders. If he doesn't take marks he is useless in the forward line.

He is doing a decent job as the ruck, I'd leave him there for now.
Lobb loss a marking contest against Lachie Hunters who’s 183cm. Seriously. Had no toughness or strength to knock him off. Not only that, Hunter gathered the ball for a great kick.
So drop Tabs to keep Lobb? Heh, no

Brayshaw would be out before Tucker .

Think he probably does need a rest and a bit of a confidence boost in the WAFL but in all fairness to him today, he was much improved.

I agree = Tucker or Hughes out for Blakely. Why in hades would you drop Hogan though?!?

More hypothetically in that if we were to bring Darcy in and move Lobb forward we'd need to drop one of the three as we'd be too top heavy. Although McCarthy is more effective playing further down field.

Read the rest of this post in a Scottish accent.

Aye. Ah learnt a hin' ur tae in scootlund.

Lobb is better around the ground instead of forward. I’d prefer to bring in Darcy vs Jacobs. Lobb as a Swingman. Worried though he ll get in the way of Tabs/Hogan. Too many times he got in the way of the forwards.

Tabs, Hogan, Switter
McCarthy, Matera, Colyer is the perfect mix. I wouldn’t drop anyone to accomdate for Darcy. Perhaps Cerra for a break for Blakely and Brayshaw for Darcy? When are they going to have their rest games.. that’s the key question. Ffs Cerra isn’t a half backer. He’s too skilful and flair for that. Now we have a heap of midfield depth.

I think our tall forward mix is the best combo we have. They aren't consistent, but they are threatening. Cox and Lobb as forward options are cover for Hogan and Taberner. And I think we have got the small forwards humming. Need to give them time together as a unit.

Tonight proved that we need Darcy in. Lobb got destroyed by English around the ground. Midfield were a little
Off too, plus the dogs Mids are no slouches.
Also Blakely is 100% in our best 15.

In - Darcy Blakely
Out - Switta Brayshaw (rest)

We’re not dropping Switta. Colyer might be an option. I agree. We need Darcy bad

Fyfe had three clearances tonight. He averages around ten. Id be confident the clearance situation will be significantly better next week with or without Blakely. Personally think its time to learn from past mistakes and not rush players back from injury by playing them at afl level soon as possible. Another week at wafl level helps Connor build confidence before returning as well. He actually hasnt played at afl level since round 14 last year.

Couldnt disagree more on the Lobb call either. English had 5 intercept marks tonight. Lobb was actually free a lot but players stuffed up some of the kicks to him and Lobb beat English significantly in hit outs 31-21. Plus. It looks like Lobb had a better game at afl level than Sean did at wafl level today going against a ruck that is 194cm in Lachlan Delahunty who had 28 possessions and a 197cm ruck in Timothy Sutherland. Close to zero chance Sean comes in this week in my view.

So confirmation that many here don’t watch the games......

Brayshaw out? lol idiots.

I think they watch the games, but the unconscious bias kicks in and they think they saw what they saw but actually it is just a reflection of things tied to previous negative emotional responses.

For my part what I thought I saw (without looking at the stats) a pretty accurate disposal game from Brayshaw, nailed a goal with a kick that didn't look dodgy in the slightest. There was also from memory one kick that was to a guy with three opposition players bearing down on him; the kick itself was general well executed but one of the opposition players spoilt, so perhaps the wrong call. There was also a number of superb looking hand balls out to players in space. He seems to be improving each game and certainly would be not so wise to drop him at the moment.

Actually I thought Cerra had a good night by hand as well, really marred by a couple of howler kicks (there were also some extremely good kicks as well) and poor defensive decisions (holding the ball/incorrect disposal one in the second half). He also got 20 possessions or more again; the more he gets of the ball the more we are likely to win; he just didn't have his skills up to the level we normally expect.

Blakely only had 20 possessions in the WAFL but I hear he was tagged. It is hard to drop anyone but if we though we needed to I would probably go Colyer or Nyhuis; Colyer was pretty good with his run, energy and tackling and Nyhuis was one of the best on the field but I would look at it more from the perspective that Blakely would be bringing something extra to the team over those players (namely a chop out for the other roving mids).

Hard to drop players from a winning team. Blakely deserves to come int othe side - Tucker had another decent game, but Blakely is probably an upgrade at this point in time. Coyler does a lot of good things that help the team - and he is quite tough at it - similar to Conca - I get the feeling they set the tone for attack on the footy and it follows through to the rest of the group.

Certainly a good problem to have.

I suspect they may rest a few players at one point. In the last 10 minutes we where starting to look like the walking dead. Some sore bodies out there, and I assume with the emotion of the occasion it could present an opportunity to freshen a few up such as Brayshaw or Cerra.
They kick straight we lose.

Cox for McCarthy

Duman for Cerra

Blakely for Brayshaw this week or next

Brayshaw was ok but Blakley over him any day of the week at this stage but he'll be putting some serious selection on the guys in the team

Cerra hasn't really played a good game in 8 months he needs some 25+ games in the WAFL to find his edge again and having him come in sharp later on could be a big boost just at the right time
