Rumour Rumors of cat player in big trouble

If the charges are dropped I’d never boo him. If this all goes away I can confidently say I personally, have absolutely no idea whether he’s a monster or a victim or anything in between, and therefor (like people used to do before the internet) will reserve judgement.
This is basically it.

For a crime with such a low conviction rate, everyone involved within it is Schrodinger's Assailant, Schrodinger's Victim, Schrodinger's Liar, Schrodinger's Falsely Accused etc.

No he won't.

If he gets off / charges are dropped, then the club and the vast majority of supporters will pretend it never happened. Same as at every other club.

I'd be amazed if he wasn't back playing later this season.

what world are you living in?

He will always have that hanging over him. There will not be a social media thread where he has any vague connection, that doesn’t mention it.

There will always be a question of ‘did he or didn’t he?’

People can pretend all they want. It won’t remove the tar/brush that was referred to earlier, rightly or wrongly that’s going to stay for a long, long time.

It’s stayed with Jack de Belin. It’s stayed with the Bulldogs in the rugby league. Hell two weeks ago when Spencer Leniu declined an interview with Johnathon Thurston and called him a f**kwit, 20 years on from the event there were people left right and centre in every other Facebook comment thread not going at Leniu, but going at Thurston saying ‘Leniu should have asked him what he got up to at Coffs Harbour all those years ago’ for an incident where Thurston was never even named let alone charged with anything.

Can persuade a victim to withdraw the complaint

The accused cannot persuade the alleged victim to drop the charges.

They or any of their associates are not allowed to contact the victim or else they will be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and intimidating a witness.

Lawyers on the other hand......

Are lawyers not seen as associates?

I thought they'd be able to be approached by an acusor to try and settle out of court but not initiate.

Anyway we don't know if that's what's happened here.

Lawyers can communicate between themselves who can then communicate any offers the their clients.

Cmon, we all know you want him sacked so Scott can then offer him a contract.
Willie? **** no.
Drug cheat.

Ken. Sure.
Would be a very good assistant or GM of Football.

do we actually even know if anything has happened? So far there’s just a few posts on here insinuating that charges have been dropped but there’s nothing on any other social media platforms to suggest this is the case?

O’Loughlin and Peter Burgoyne managed to have pretty productive careers post payout but I guess the fact that there are people like myself that still mention it validates your point.
Early 00s though. In this digital age I don't think the player involved here will get the same treatment of people eventually forgetting. It will be mentioned regularly, would guess weekly on this site and broadly across social media.

Yeah for sure, and the fact that all clubs have AFLW sides now is another nuance that is even more important. I could see a world where even if charges are dropped, the cats slowly and quietly manage the player out of the club to avoid all the innuendo and discomfort.

Thats a great stance, wouldn’t want to be recruiting any players to Geelong with drug issues.
Irrelevant to my point.
Most of the league take drugs.

But Rioli has an ASADA drug ban, and then tried to board a plane with drugs while banned.

He should be a deregistered footballer for that alone.

Are they just gonna a do what they did to Chuck Cunningham in Happy Days and pretend he never existed in the first place?

Wouldn't put it past the AFL

Since Laura Kane and Andrew Dillon took the top jobs they’ve completely lost the plot on crisis management and PR. Prior administrations were very good at protecting the brand, these two clowns are useless 🤡

I think it's just as likely that it will completely blow over and nobody will remember this in a year from now. Looking at this thread, nobody has even named the player, so it's not like normal scandals where you get used to seeing a persons name in print and you associate it with scandal. Having his name redacted from this thread would have gone a long way towards mitigating the mud-sticking factor. The media has stayed away from this too. Of course the people here who are in the know might still wonder, but the general public won't be thinking about this. I don't even know who we're talking about - I know I could find out, but I don't care enough about fringe Geelong players to even find out.

TL;DR I think this will just blow over.

Everybody in football knows who it is.

Naive to suggest this ever goes away
