Rumour Rumors of cat player in big trouble

St Kilda does not have an ex player who was present when a young girl snorted heroin in his presence, when she thought it was cocaine. She died.

GOD help me. Geelong is cover up central. Fancy having someone like that associated with your club.

They did have one set to stand trial for historic child sex offences but the charges were dropped as there were doubts about the chances of a conviction.

They have had Sam Fisher jailed for drug trafficking. How many ruined or ended lives was he involved in?

While still playing there is a very real possibility that one of their greatest modern players was involved in a very serious incident - only two people know whether it was illegal or not.

One of North Melbourne’s greatest players is a convicted paedophile.

Andrew Lovett in addition to the charges he faced while he played has been jailed for bashing his partner senseless, pouring alcohol on her, spitting on her etc.

One of your own club’s former players - Brennan Stack - was caught on film punching the shit out of a woman in a car park and jailed for it.

Hell, look at Sam Newman for another ex Geelong player who has covered himself in complete shame of the non criminal kind since retirement.

I don’t think any club is free of ex players who have covered themselves in shit at some point.

Training away from the club and not using club facilities.

That makes sense, really can’t fault Geelong for how they have handled this.

Further rumours that this case has been dropped?

Theres 3 reasons I can think of for such a serious matter to be dropped.
1. Not enough evidence to get a conviction.
2. There's been $ change hands to buy silence.
3. The claim was not legit and the victim wants it dropped.

Will we ever know which one it is.

Your third reason would remove victim as their descriptor

4. The claim was legit but the victim no longer wants to proceed.

A few whispers suggesting that may be true.

Charges would be need to be officially withdrawn at the committal hearing early next month.
Will be a very interesting outcome

Due to how this as played out it will be very delicate to navigate for the player and club

They are going to cop criticism and probably won’t be judged as an innocent party even if legally they are and “technically” no one was meant to know that charges had been laid in the first place

Opposition supporters and even cats fans will have some very strong opinions and won’t be afraid to vocalise them

He will be tarred with this for a long time regardless of what did or didn't happen.

happened to Andrew Lovett the day he was charged, charges were later dropped

Lovett was a different case because he had a long behaviour sheet and was sacked for reasons unrelated to the charge.
When you look at the Jack de belin case and others there's a valid argument as to whether a player really should be stood down when a case may take years (the judicial system is too slow). But all the sporting codes are concerned about optics so stand downs are likely here to stay.

Do people in this thread actually believe that the Cats and AFL are just making it up as they go along and not receiving any legal advice? The Legal Eagles would be telling them exactly how to deal with it. Not too hard to fathom.

And the media. They've been making a story about Geelong playing funny buggers with its injury list and late changes for the past six weeks, but just haven't noticed this guy?

All three parties (Geelong, AFL, media) would be doing precisely what they've been legally advised to do.

This. It's all right in front of you if you open your eyes.

Hadn't considered the scenario of potentially a payout and charges dropped. Not saying that has happened or will happen, but if it were to be the case, then it's even more of a messy situation for the AFL as the trial by media climate we live in often equates 'Allegation = guilty' and would raise the question of why an innocent person would agree to pay out money to someone. If you were accused, had a heap of money (compared to the average person) and everything had been kept reasonably under wraps, then you get asked for $50-100k to make it all go away (assuming as well there was some level of consensual relationship previously), you could see how someone would just pay the money and move on.

this. unfortunately mud sticks.

O’Loughlin and Peter Burgoyne managed to have pretty productive careers post payout but I guess the fact that there are people like myself that still mention it validates your point.
