So it seems like media will only go after players on assault or drug dealing. Wonder what would happen if a player was under investigation for murder/manslaughter?
Depends if there’s a suppression order

How can you spend this much time in this thread and not understand that the media cannot report on this story. It’s the same as George Pells court case a few years ago. Media couldnt give specifics.

It’s got nothing to do with Geelong successfully sneaking the story under a rug

Let the judicial system do whatever it needs to do, these sorts of cases can take years, if it goes to a trial, let the jury make their most informed decision possible.

Innocent until proven guilty, but I hope that in the scenario that it is in fact true, the victims receives all the help necessary.

If it takes years and it's innocent until proven guilty shouldn't he be allowed to play? Because say he is innocent but then his AFL career is over? That's not fair

happened to Andrew Lovett the day he was charged, charges were later dropped

No, he shouldn't. It's a shame, and I recognise that this can punish the falsely accused, but the issue is that being an AFL footballer is a high profile job with significant responsibilities.

If you thought the Adam Goodes booing was an all-consuming shitfight, could you imagine the abuse, scandal and distraction if the alleged player suited up in the hoops?

Both Geelong and the accused are better off for now with him left out of the side on full pay. It would be the same with any senior execs outside of elite sport charged with a serious crime.

‘Why is so and so not playing?’
‘He faces incredibly serious criminal charges and there will be a trial.’
‘Oh ok. Why isn’t it being reported on?’
‘The law states that nobody can report on it as such.’
‘Why is he listed as injured?’
‘It’s a difficult position for anyone to take at the club itself when you can’t really speak about the legal situation of the player, because of a law put in place so most likely, they were advised to list him as injured.’
‘Oh, ok.’

Is it really THAT hard to digest all of the above?

He's no longer listed as injured on the injury list. Now listed as "unavailable".

Now that his finger has healed, no doubt pushing for selection soon .

Unlikely, as he’s currently involved in a major criminal investigation/trial.

The ongoing fascination with this rather than concern for the possible victim is mind numbing

This will surely appease the masses calling for the fake injury not to be the listed reason?

Can't wait to see everyone content.

Do people in this thread actually believe that the Cats and AFL are just making it up as they go along and not receiving any legal advice? The Legal Eagles would be telling them exactly how to deal with it. Not too hard to fathom.
I mean reading this thread it is absolutely clear that is in fact what plenty of people believe

No but I believe certain opposition supporters are pretending this, so they can keep constantly bumping the thread and trolling Geelong

I'd love to know how many have been blocked by journalists on social media - any time Cleary mentions anything Geelong, or like this afternoon where other journos mented the injury list memo from the AFL, the comments quickly fill up with "Where's Tanner" or "What's Geelong lying about"

I don't blame journos for locking the comments on different tweets when they're simply trying to do their jobs and idiots won't shut up
