False accusations related to sexual assault are rare, and even when it is legitimate (which again statistically is by far the overwhelming majority), it is extremely difficult to prosecute - ''effectively decriminalised'.

Statistically, it's more likely the latter.

This is the main point that most people don't appreciate. The way our legal system deals with sexual offences is borderline archaic.

So statistically, it's more likely that he did it and there wasn't enough evidence than it being a false accusation.

Maybe it is a false accusation, but partisan defence of him in here is missing the point.

Yeah nah. The male friend did call police (did you read the article?), and then drove to the alleged victim's house as they were worried about her safety.

Any reference to check his testimony was in relation to claiming he was kicked or punched, which wasn't captured on CCTV. That doesn't mean the friend wasn't worried that his friend was going to be r*ped.

I don't really want to go into hypotheticals, but can you think of why a male friend might slightly embellish a story to include confrontation, when he believed he let the two male co-accused leave with her and allegedly sexually assault her?

Any sympathy towards him is completely misguided.

He is not a victim.
The accused is making $600,000 a year. He is a 23 year old adult, not a new draftee. He’s been educated in topics of consent since he was an under 15 player at Geelong falcons. This is education would be rammed down his throat very regularly. He has either chosen to ignore this educational advice or he was too stupid to understand it.
He is in a position of privilege and took advantage of it.
He was arrogant enough to put himself in that situation. He wasn’t forced to stay out until 4.00am at a strip club. He made some very conscious and costly decisions and here we are.

lol. Yeah I doubt as I was walking towards my car after the event she walked out the front door, chased me and punched me in the jaw because she was worried about her safety.
