Gee why dont we just play 22 rebounding defenders? Surely we'd just have opposition clubs just drooling:rolleyes:

gosh... I am make :rolleyes::rolleyes: as well.

Laidler is how tall and how old?

Laids is 22 and 189cm tall. He isnt exactly the fastest player out of the blocks either so how can he be an upgrade on Bower? Dont get me wrong. Laidler is a very good player and will be an awesome part of our defence going forwards but he is not someone who will take the ball in hand and try and break the lines and make a 50-60m run like Bower and Yarren are capable of.

I mention 3 rebounding defenders across our half back line and all of a sudden we should be playing 22 of them? what planet did you come from?

Also, how are we going to get overs for a guy who has spent the greater part of the last 2 years out injured and who is going to be out of contract shortly?

This "Bower is overrated thing" reminds me of the "Walker is crap, can't kick etc."

Don't understand why people confuse injury with poor form.

Because he's been injured, Bower's trade value is low, we'd get a fringe player for him. Bower's non-injured upside is far better than fringe. We'd loss no matter what on a trade, best keep him and see whether he gets over his injuries and back to his 2009 form.

Injuries are a curse, but those on here willing to let him go for average picks or players need their heads read. The guy deserves the same level of support that AW has been afforded through his tough years...at least Paul gave us something prior to his run with injuries.

Many of us just have the memory of a goldfish.
As soon as a player is out of the main team he best worth forgetting about.
We may as well quit Lucas and Russell while we're at it and hopefully pick up someone elses rejects that will undoubtedly be better.

Again using the standard trading principle, we should not give away a player when their at their nadir, unless we are unequivocal about any possibility of their return back to form.

Taking injuries out of the equation Bower, Russell and Lucas are in our starting 22.

The upside on a fit (and I re-iterate the word fit) Bower for season 2012 would be enormous.

He would basically be a new recruit (where its acknowledged the Draft Pool would be very thin).

Be very risky to trade him - unless we had an ace up our sleeve with a later round draft pick like a Duigan at #70 or Armfield at #46.

I think some of us here have Bower at 30 years of age with a battered body and basically over the hill.
The guy is still only 23, for god's sake.

No problem talking trades if he really wants to go, but to serve him us as a has-been or never-was is quite foolish.

How many rebounding defenders do we want? Plenty, thank you.
I see Laidler as having a long future with us, but for all the love I have for Duigan, it wouldn't surprise me for him to go backwards next year.
He's currently working at optimum levels and may be able to maintain that for some time to come yet, but he really only has one way to go from here.

Lucas hitting Carlos laces out with 2 impossible to stop passes in the first half showed why we should be doing everything within our power to re-sign him at the club. His link up work through the wing also showed why some of us supporters rate him so well. He is just behind Scotto in the pecking order. But if he gets a good run next year and can get a load of game time in the seniors, I expect that he will have passed Scotto before the end of the year.

Well said.

Yet he could have easily been overlooked for last week, and many here would not have had second thoughts to trading him for a second or third rounder.

Again, out of sight, out of mind prevails, yet given a run where the real action is, brings out the best in many of the better skilled players.

I was very happy with Lucas' output on the weekend and I am very confident that he will be a quality player for us in the future but how on earth were those 2 passes 'lace out'?

The first one was just a kick on his head, perhaps more to his advantage but still not what I would define as being a lace out pass.

The second was an obvious shank which fell in between 3 St Kilda players.

There have been shockers around here lately but don't think anyone honestly thinks this.

Have heard from a weak source at work that Carlton will have Chris Dawes next season.

Makes me wonder what the trade would be.

I wish. We don't have nearly enough to offer the Pies. It would have to be something downright dramatic as in the Pies trading for Jags or something along those lines.

This is a big call Harks. The man is in only his first season at an AFL club with AFL level facilities and fitness staff. Why would we expect him to go backwards next year?

When you hear him speak, he certainly understands the workrate required and what he needs to work on. He'll get another pre-season with the aforementioned facilities and training staff and come out next year better than ever I reckon.

Every year we have some players go forwards and some that go backwards, or more likely just stay at the same level and others leapfrog them.
I just feel that Laidler has more upside than Duigan and as we've seen this year to date it doesn't take much to find yourself back with the Ants.

I feel Tuohy will become a permanent fixture next year and with Jamison, Henderson, Laidler and Yarran at least tying up another four slots, we will have Russell, Duigan, Davies, hopefully Bower and still possibly Thornton fighting things out to complete our back-line. Add in the potential of McCarthy and Watson coming on and we're starting to get a bit tight down back.

Really not setting out to discount Duigans value but moreso to outline that it just doesn't take much to precievably look as though you've fallen out of favour.

I think you could have put another four letter word in front of weak, to emphasize the likelihood.
Eddie would sooner set fire to Dawes than trade with us.

Yet he's more than happy to pick up stars like Chris Bryan. :o

Eddie is more of a receiver than a giver.
Probably still burns him up seeing Scotland running around with us.

Makes my heart glow seeing Scotland running around with us...

If he hangs around for the next couple of years, then there will be a good chance he will be a premiership player as well.

And anything that pisses off Eddie Everywhere always makes my heart glow.

Do you reckon he is going to bother showing up this year?

I mean it could end up being a Carlton 1 and 2 finish with Judd winning it and Murphy coming second.

And there is no massive build up that one of his hacks is going to win...

For the sake of playing through the hypothetical.....

JR > GCS
Josh Toy > Collingwood
Pick 23 > Collingwood
Dawes > Carlton

With all due respect guys, if he walks away with his second flag in a row, I don't think he'd give a fat rats toss bag about the Brownlow ! :)
