St Kilda Football Club is pleased to announce the appointments of Graeme Allan to the role of Head of Talent and Acquisition and Stephen Silvagni as List Manager.

The pair of recruiting specialists bring a wealth of industry knowledge, having accumulated over 30 years of football experience across playing, coaching and administrative roles.

Like I said last year the final piece of the puzzle in what was an exceptional review. Looking forward to what is hopefully a new era.

Gee, we have a lot of good football ppl at this club now, in theory a highly competent off field team.

Coaches:

  • Ross Lyon (new)
  • Corey Enright (2022 start)
  • Lenny Hayes (new)
  • Robert Harvey (new)

Dev Coaches:

  • Damian Carroll (2022 start)
  • Jake Batchelor
  • Brendan Goddard (new)

Performance and Conditioning:

  • David Misson (new)
  • Nick Walsh (2022 start)

List Management:

  • Graeme Allan (new role)
  • Stephen Silvangni (new)
  • Chris Toce (new role in 2022)
  • Jarryd Roughead (new role)

Football Program Management:

  • Geoff Walsh (new)
  • Simon Lethlean (new role)
  • David Rath

Club:

  • Andrew Bassat

Missing anyone?

Yet to be seen how functional this group will be but I sure as hell am feeling better and like we have more direction as a club pursuing high standards, than at the end of last season.

You forgot Misson, another important appointment

Is SOS involved in recruitment and drafting? It seems not.
Is he involved in managing salary cap and player contracts? Probably but unclear?
Is he involved in wheeling and dealing with player agents and making deals? Probably, but unclear?

The main thing the discussion on here demonstrates is that none of us has any idea what the role of list manager even is, let alone an ability to assess the appointment. This is even more obvious when you consider that they have created a new role for Allen overseeing it all which no one expected.

For better or worse, the only way to judge this appointment is to wait and see how the list looks in a few year's time - and even then, it will never be clear who to attribute the success/failure to.

So… I can’t say for certain but one would assume that a list manager is in charge of pretty much everything in your first paragraph. If it’s not that what else would they do?

I thought he had one. Football operations assistant or something like that
I thought we just gave him a polo and pretended like he was doing something important.

Heard it went down something similar to this actually

I think SOS was okay for us without being spectacular.

Certainly haggled for deals and is very steadfast in his opinions for better or worse. Knocked the 2015 draft out of the park but we had significant capital to play with.

Did have an unhealthy obsession with blokes he originally took to gws but we often didn’t pay too much for them.

I wouldn’t be busting out the good champagne but there’s definitely worse out there as well

Not exactly overjoyed with this but we probably didn't have much choice in the end.
In light of Gubby's new appointment I don't really understand why Gags couldn't have managed the TPP from SA. We might find ourselves regretting that move in a few years but we just gotta hope that Walsh has it under control.

Maybe in the sense that the people who are actually responsible for these things report to him (even this is not 100% clear), but then you could say the same thing about everyone up the chain too.

Does this guy actually have a good record. It sounds nice and all that but I’m not so sure. I also think we need to seperate list manager from recruiting manager. For example SOS would have done that silly deal for stocker when Carlton got him but the recruiting manager would have said Walsh is the best player in the draft. And I’m defence of SOS the same recruiting manager would have been giving stocker a leg up. Still it was not up to that person to trade picks. That is the list manager.

Don’t know enough about it to be honest. But can’t say I am that comfortable about it. Couple of older blokes, both not been overly involved recently. Gubby seems to pop up on Draft night. Unsighted the rest of the time? Will reserve judgment.

At least it gives someone for Ross to talk to. SOS being his best mate.

I think hes both responsible for (as the leader of the list management team) and hes personally pretty involved.

Im still not really sure what your point is though, list manager is in charge of every aspect you discussed as both the manager in charge and the individual decisions.

This sets out some of the roles of the list manager.
