Interesting artical on the weekend with Sampi who declares he's ready to get back to playing footy again whether it's with the Wet Toast or any other club.

He's been living for 7/8 weeks far up north on the W.A coast with his family.
He says he is at a good weight and does nothing but fish and walk and sticks to a low fat diet of fish.

I'd have him in the forward pocket with Davey on the other side...

he wouldn't ask for much dough...

Take a punt..or not even consider?

Depends. I am open minded, POTENTIALLY he is a star in the making (note David Rodan guys/girls). But my only question is where would we play him? He is a forward and we have a billion fowards on our books as well and thats not counting another 1-2 out of this years draft.

Low potential for him to re-find the motivation to play AFL but could be a potentially big pay off if you succeeded. Still, I would probably pass.

Yep agree!!! I hope our new coach can take a leaf out of Alistair Clarkson's book, NO RECYCLED PLAYERS!!![/QUOTE]

David Rodan anyone?......never say never.

Put aside your negative thoughts and ponder the likes of Sampi.
He'll play for peanuts and he can take Campo's place on the list.

He sounds like he's got his head in a better place...realises what he's missing.

Oh..and he does kick goals. Good ones too.

We need more goals..

David Rodan anyone?......never say never.

Sampi, aswell as a lot of recycled players we've picked up (Zantuck, Cupido, Cole etc.) has an attitude problem. For Rodan it was never his attitude, just he wasn't able to stay on the park for the last year or two, and in the end, Wallace and co. didn't think he was good enough...Wrong of course.

No one is doubting Sampi's ability, and who knows, he may turn his attitude around and play some good footy, I'm not 100% against the idea of getting him (about 95%). But I don't think it would be a good idea for us to pick him up. Because I doubt we'll see much more from Sampi than what we did when he was at a firing West Coast outfit. And we didn't see much.

I'd take him.

We are an ordinary side at the moment and we need as much quality as we can.

Contrary to populate belief we do not have enough small forwards that can kick goals. Davey is more about pressure and isn't a natural goalsneak. Lovett is best suited further up the ground.

Him and Davey zipping around the forward line would be fantastic.

If we get him for nothing in a week draft than it's a punt worth taking.

His attitude hasn't affected West Coasts performance over the past few years.

i can't see davey, lovett, jetta and houli all getting a game each week, but i'd rather see all of them given a chance ahead of sampi.

as others have said, we have been severely burned with recycled players over the last 5 years. time for us to build from the ground up.

It's a no from me on the basis that there's too high a possibility that he will be a flop and waste the club's time.

However, I am not against chasing a crumming forward, that being a guy that specialises in reading the ball off the packs in the forward 50. Too often we;ve kicked the ball in, it's come off a marking contest and then been snapped up by the opposition.

For those of you saying Alwyn Davey is this player, I ask you to rethink that opinion. How many times have we seen him take the ball from those types of situations? Few. Davey is a great tackler and a great plyer on the run, but crumming isn't his speciality. I think they'll also look to play him further up the ground next year.
